For a special friend

I made this card for Kay in New Mexico - it's arrived (phew) so now I can post about it:
I used:

- white DL card stock

- backing card from the SU Neutrals pack

- stamped images by Stamp A Mania, from Guadalupe's fabby shop in Santa Fe, Kay was there when I bought the stamps with this very card for her in mind :). The stamps are called 'Adobe with Ristra' ** and 'Barbed Wire Cactus'. Images were coloured with Pro Markers, and the cactus was hand cut and attached using a sticky pad. The main image was cut using a Sizzix die

- sentiment by SU, it's an old one I've had for ages - but so sums up how we feel about Kay....we'll meet up again before too long I hope and 'you're never more than a thought away' is so true, despite all the thousands of miles

** A Ristra is an amazing bunch of threaded chillies 18" to 2 foot in length, lots of houses and shops in New Mexico have them hanging from their verandas/porches. Some are purely ornamental and sprayed with preservative and some are left to dry naturally and are used for cooking during the 'non-chilli' season. They look fabulous!
And that brilliant blue sky is a colour that will stay in my mind for a very long time - until we return in fact, so vivid :)

  9. Terrific card, Di - lovely sentiment and fun image. Great photo from the holiday too. I've seen similar strings of peppers hanging from a house in Sorrento. So decorative and functional as well. Your's was the kind of holiday that just keeps giving ... by that I mean that you've made a friend for life and still enjoying the aftermath - perfect :) Hugs, Elizabeth xx

  11. Wow Di,
    A blast from the past.
You will not believe this and I am gutted, as I pride myself on music and I can't for the life in me, but I will, once I get into bed and it is too late. It so reminds my of an old song, about Mexico and a floozy named Flo, one of my old favorite and I just, can't remember the title, tr-la-la or something like that, can't believe I can not remember it. An adobie But a fabulous card, love it to bits.
I can remember listening to it on my tranny, while camping with the Girl Guides and actually saving up to buy the record as my Dad loved it as well because my Mum's name was Flo, and she hated her name.
Also something about Chicken, and it was an American singer.
Whenever it came on the radio I used to sing it at the top of my voice, didn't go down at all well.
Badger Len and please try and put me out of my misery before I leave home tomorrow at 12.30 p.m.

    Love
    Kath x

  12. Hi Kath

    SPEEDY GONZALES BY PAT BOONE

It was a moonlit night in Old Mexico.
I walked alone between some old adobe haciendas.
Suddenly, I heard the plaintive cry of a young Mexican girl:

La la la, la la la la la la la la, la la la la la la la la, la la la la
    la la la la.

You better come home Speedy Gonzales, away from tannery row.
Stop all of your drinking with that floosie named Flo!
Come on home to your adobe and slap some mud on the wall!
The roof is leaking like a strainer. There's loads of roaches in the
    hall.
    (La la la la)

    Speedy Gonzales (Speedy Gonzales),
    why don't you come home?
    Speedy Gonzales (Speedy Gonzales),
how come you leave me all alone?

"He, Rosita, I have to go shopping downtown for my mother,
she needs some Tortillias and Chilli Pepper!"

La, la la la la la la la la, la la la la la la la la, la la la la la la
    la la.

Your doggie's gonna have a puppy, and we're running out of Coke.
no enchiladas in the icebox, and the television's broke.
I saw some lipstick on your sweatshirt, I smell some perfume in your
    ear.
Well, if you're gonna keep on messin', don't bring your business back
    a-here.
    (La la la la)

    Mmm, Speedy Gonzales (Speedy Gonzales),
    why don't you come home?
    Speedy Gonzales (Speedy Gonzales),
how come you leave me all alone?

    "He, Rosita, come quick!
Down at the cantina, they're giving green stamps with Tequila!"

La, la la la la la la la la, la la la la la la la la, la la la la la la
    la la
La la la la, la la la la la la la la, la la la la la la la la, la la la
    la la la la la.

  13. Loved your pretty card, and so perfect for Kay. Also enjoyed your NM Bluesky picture. SC has skies that blue sometimes also, but no Ristras! Red & blue together...fabulous. TFS
