Pixies Snippets Playground - Week 108

One of my New Years Resolutions is to make sure I have Birthday cards already made the month before they're needed - so long as I remember to check my 'Birthday Book' of course :) So this card was made well in advance - for four weeks time. Just spotted over at Sentimental Sundays that the current challenge is 'More than three layers - plus a sentiment' so I'm entering this card as it has six layers if you count the 2 on the little sail:

I used:

- 6" x 6" square white card blank

- all papers, a lot of them snippets, came from the Forever Friends 'Best of British' paper pad - I just tuck my snippets inside the front cover of the relevant paper pad

- the stamp is made by Woodware, called 'Patchwork Boat', paper pieced with snippets. I then rounded the corners of the piece of white card using Woodware's 'Corner Rounder' - and the little boat also comes with three stamps very suitable as names, I used 'Petit Bateau'

- the number 2 was in my little box of die cuts (thanks Sarn!), and I just coloured it with a red Pro Marker

- sentiment was computer produced and then hand cut into a pennant/fishtail shape and mounted onto a snippet of dark blue paper. There's a little 'how-to' which I posted yesterday afternoon here if you have trouble hand cutting even sized fishtails - it works for me :)

- red Josy Rose nail heads to finish off

Onto this week's picks, as always sooooo hard to choose:
I chose Greta's card because not only does it use loads of snippets but the design just jumped out of the screen at me - absolutely beautiful!

This layout, brought by Sam to show, has so, so much lovely detail - lots of layers and snippets too.

This was another card that jumped out at me - love those hexagons and Sue also used up quite a few snippets too.

This card, made by Maggie, is a lovely example of how you can use a snippet of Nature to create a fabulous card - have you guessed yet? It's a piece of silver birch bark die cut to make the two hearts! Very clever.

I think this card, made by Sue J, is absolutely divine! Beautiful colouring, plenty of snippets used and Sue's 'little pearl dots trademark' as well :)

Do please remember that these are just my picks, although I often notice when you girls are really enthusiastic about snippets makes in your comments too - which sort of confirms my own thoughts :)

Moving on, as am still limiting my time sitting over the laptop, here's the winner of the little brass easel:

Well done Mary! I have your address and will pop it in the post to you as soon as I get to the Post Office.

This week's prize is a little something the same as  I used on today's card:

Yup, it's the Woodware 'Patchwork Boat' stamp set. So cute and perfect for cards for little chaps - or even older ones maybe :)

The snippets challenge will run for one week and the Playground gates will close at 11am UK time on Saturday 25th January and will open again at midnight UK time on the same day. Maximum of three entries and please say 'No thank you' in a comment if you wish to still play but not be the winner of the prize. Please NEVER be afraid to say you're just playing for fun - it doesn't offend me at all, and the Playground is first and foremost for us to have fun, the prizes are just a thank you for playing :)

Mr Linky is below - please let me know if you have any problems linking, I can sort it out for you quite quickly and am always happy to do so.

Ahem, and anyone thinking of building a rollercoaster at the end of the Playground can think again. Since we had a gardener in to clear stuff ready for a new fence there have been a few scurryings in the extra space behind the bushes - I'm onto you! :)

Di - and of course Parsnip

  6. Oh my goodness you're card this week is just magical - I'm a great fan of paper piecing and this stamp is just perfect for that. I love the shades of blue you have used. They remind me of the insides of envelopes. Did you know the Dutch used to use them for iris folding. I haven't done that for a while - hmmm so many things to do and so little time. Congrats to all those chosen for the gallery - some fab creations yet again.
Will be back with my entry soon.

  13. I was here really early Miss but the gates were shut, so I snuck round the back and squeezed in where the fence panels are damaged. I played on the swings and roundabout for a bit, but got bored cos there was no one else there. Even looked behind the bike shed for Mrs A but noffink doing so I wandered off home again.

Lovely card for Luke, brilliant paper piecing. Fantastic picks again, love them all.

  17. Hello there Di and friends ... Happy New Year. So sorry I've been missing all the fun and challenges in the playground for a couple of weeks. Don't know where the time went and somehow didn't make anything snippety (if that makes sense). At last I've just posted an entry though and what a great collection of cards already in the 'bag'. Well done ladies. Sarah x

  18. Seriously?!! A WHOLE MONTH in advance. what are you, superwoman or something? I'm perfectly content to have the card made and mailed before the birthday which is total about face from last year. Cute card. I have my snippet card made but I'll upload it another day as there may be another one lurking inside me.

  21. Finally had a chance to mozey back over to enjoy all the highlights, and you sure had your work cut out this week, Miss. Some really super entries, each so unique & beautiful. Loved your little fella card. Really cute stamp and you did a fab job with the paper piecing. What a fun way to use up a bunch of pretty snippets. Luke is going to be so thrilled to get his own little blue boat with his age stamp. What a memory it will bring when age 2 is just a long ago time for him. TFS & oh, many, many hugs. I hope Parsnip is all recovered from his bowl on the head gig, and if you & Mrs. A sail this on the pond, let me know so I can come over to watch!

Congratulations to Mary for being last week's winner, she snuck in at the last minute, but well deserved. There were some lovely cards in there, but I must say I saw Mrs. A's blog the other day and marvelled at how great it was to have made such a wonderful card from old envelopes. x

  27. A great card for a little boy, Di - love the petit bateau. And it's one of my goals to make cards in advance ... however, it's surprising how often I end up making one with an hour or so to spare! All the cards showcases are, as ever, fabulous, but then everyone who joins in makes such good use of their snippets. Congratulations to Mary H - that easel is going to feature in all her photos I'm sure. Hugs, Elizabeth xx

  42. Luke is going to love his precious boat card, Di! You are an inspiration getting your cards done a MONTH ahead of time!!

Great choices for the Hit Parade and congratulations to all selected!

I'm a bit peaked from a nasty bug, but I hope to get around to everyone in the gallery. It's so lovely to see new faces around the playground!! I'm always disappointed if I don't get to all, especially if it's because I'm wasting time plotting some mischieves, er, I mean potting some radishes.

I'm sorry to hear you are still tender, my friend. You are wise not to sit too long. Thanks, as always, for your hard work and no thanks for the chance at the cute boat! Hugs, Darnell

  53. Perfect little card for what I'm sure is a perfect little child. I wouldn't take Mrs. A's advice though, I don't think the ducks are ready to share the pond. Much as I love the stamp....please leave me out of the drawing. I'm trying to downsize...note I said trying. Wishing you a wonderful week! I hope this comes through. My internet provider is not playing nice! I think a trip behind the wood shed is in it's future!

  55. Forgot to say in all the kerfuffle of trying to beat blogger etc, I am just playing along for fun, Di. Once I have done the bird count for this weekend, I will do the other thing I enjoy which is to look at other people's entries. What I really, really love is that swing and the hopscotch area. See you there on Sunday. xx Maggie
