Pixie's Snippets Playground - Week 256

Hi again - well that was a quick week!! There seems at last to be slow improvement (less squealing!) and we did manage a trip out in my wee sports car on Thursday to post prizes, collect prescription and mooch around Sainsburys while they filled the prescription - doing some grocery shopping - with Len 'riding shotgun' as a passenger all the way. But will still be holding off from prolonged crafting sessions just now!

Here's my snippets make, made on Friday, after a week without doing any crafting at all:
I used:

- 4.25" x 5.5" white card blank

- slightly smaller layer of silver mirri card as a frame - from the snippets folder (I always have loads of mirri card snippets!) glued onto the card front

- layer of pearlescent deep blue card - again from the snippets folder - glued on top of the silver 'frame'

- and a fresh sheet of Xcut adhesive silver metal effect sheet was used to die cut the Creative Expressions Sue Wilson Festive Collection 'Silent Night' die (don't worry, I managed to get another two die cuts from the leftovers and also kept some little offcuts)

- added the die cut to the deep blue layer and burnished it using a plastic rounded modeling tool to ensure it stays stuck in place (it works really well! 😅) Oooh look, I discovered Emojis on Blogger!

- final touch, just a single small clear sparkly gem in the centre of the star, the 'in-house critic' deemed that it was fine and nothing more was needed, so I stepped away

The die set comes with quite a lot of other sized stars, but as already said, it seemed that for this particular card .... 'less is more'. And I made three the same - just to keep up with my target if possible - took it in slow stages.

My original idea was to inlay the die cut - but that soon changed when I realised just how many teensy little background pieces there were to consider! Thankfully I twigged early enough as well!

The sticky backed sheet on the Xcut silver card is pretty darned good - but I really do recommend a burnishing tool or similar (the bowl of a teaspoon would work equally well!) just to make sure all the adhesive parts are firmly in contact with the card itself. That also applies to Stick-It adhesive sheets and the like of course.

Now for the weekly peek at the picks - and as can be expected at this time of year, quite a few are Christmas related:
Isn't this Christmas wreath, made by Brenda, absolutely stunning?! Such a great idea to give these to close family instead of Christmas cards.

I love this cute card for a one year old, made by Brenda L. Such a cute image and see how the little circle behind the cow matches the outer gingham frame?

Isn't this a gorgeous Christmas tag? Made by Jenny L and there's so much beautiful detail!

I love this Christmas card, made by Carol L - such great use of snippet strips too!

Aren't these altered little milk bottles adorable? Made by Glennis - and it reminded me that I have some crackle media lurking here waiting to be used :) I did try it once and it was 'a total disaster dahlings'!

Jane W's Christmas tag really caught my eye this week. Lovely use of snippets and I totally love the copper as well!

I still love GorJuss Girl images, and have this stamp set unused here (for many years as well) so it was really lovely to see Jean using hers to make this darling card! So pretty.

Snowy Hill Slider
I think this slider card, made by Trina, is such fun! Hop over to Trina's and there's even a very quick video clip of it in action :) I know two little girls in Germany who would be tickled to receive a card like this one!

And last, but certainly not least - Diane H hopped in to share this utterly fabulous 'circle side step' card. Isn't it gorgeous? And, Diane has a link over on her blog to a very clear tutorial to make the basic card shape as well. Warning though, it does involve using a craft knife at one point - help! :)

So girls, that's my picks for this week - nine again, and six are Christmas themed! Nine seems to be a fairly constant number each week, but I keep telling myself three is what I should aim for - although it could have been every single entry of course. So many ideas and inspiration each week here - I can't recommend enough that you settle down with a cuppa at some point and go through Mr Linky.

We had 58 Playmates playing along last week and no new little friends joining us.

Prize draw time now and our winner of the LOTV Art Pad called 'Party and Cake and the Impression Obsession set of three dies called 'Birthday Top Edgers' is:
I think it's 18 months or so since Jackie last won a prize in the Playgound - but as I already explained, after so many challenges it takes me ages to check back! Anyhow - I think there'll be a happy dance :)

Well done Jackie! Can you please drop me an email with your address in and I'll post your prize off as soon as possible! My email address is on the right hand side bar.

This coming week's prize is:
A Creative Expressions Sue Wilson Festive Collection 'Silent Night' die set - the same as the one I used for my snippets card - instant impact I think!

The Snippets Challenge will run for one week and the Playground gates will close at 11am UK time on Saturday 26th November. The gates will open again at midnight UK time on the same day.

A maximum of ONE entry and please say in a comment if you wish to play and be a possible winner of the prize. Please also link back to the Playground in your blog post to be eligible for the draw.

Mr Linky is below - please let me know if you have any problems linking, it's easy for me to sort out so don't struggle on alone :)

Have a lovely week! I'll still be rationing time spent 'sat sitting' at the desk but hope to keep up with commenting - unless I'm out doing a cross country run around the hills and dales of Hampshire of course :) Snigger, no chance!

And Parsnip is wondering if there's likely to be a Nativity Play this year? He's been gargling salt water and singing Christmas Carols all flipping week!

  1. Glad you're feeling a little better, sounds like you are remembering to take it easy too.

Fabulous card, Di. I love the die cut, I've not come across this one before. As you say, less is certainly more with this design, it's just perfect.

Great picks again, I missed a few in the week, so will be off for a closer look. Congratulations to Jackie on her win. I'll be back later with my card for this week and I'll be a Yes Please for this gorgeous die. xx

  2. Classic, classy, elegant--LOVE your card, Di! Incredible picks--super talented playmates! I'll play for the prize, please. Have a good week--don't over do it!

  3. Great to know that you are doing better Di, it is important to take it easy. Crafting can be so cumbersome, I feel the strain on my back too when I bend and do a lot of intricate work for hours. Beautiful and elegant card :) I love the combination of blue with silver and it seems to be all the rage this christmas (I've seen it in so many places now!) That is such a wonderful die cut so it will be a yes please for the prize.
    Take care

  4. Ohhh Di this die is simply gorgeous!!! So will be back and definitely in the draw.. :) all being well. So glad you're starting to feel more chipper and I pray that it continues that way, well done.
I love the makes by the playmates, and seen a few for a change.
Also to make things stick on dies I rub it through my bug with embossing may but remove shin so it doesn't flatten it completely. But burnishing would work too...
Thanks for sharing faithfully each week,
    Shaz in Oz.x

    1. Argh auto correct, should've read " run it through my bug with embossing mat, but remove shim..."

I must admit if you took it literally what I'd written it would be a chuckle.lll can you imagine removing your shin to run it through the bug????

  5. Lovely card Di, keep looking after yourself. Fabulous creations here again, just wish I could spend more time. I can see Sarn might be needed to supervise the nativity :) xxx

  6. Thank you so much for selecting me as one of your picks this week, especially as there were some real stunners.

And what an elegant inspirational card with that lovely die.

So you to have a little sporty number, so pleased I am not the only one who gets a kick out of a little two seater - I always promised myself when the children were old enough to have their own card that's what I would have, now they all tell me to grown up !!

    B x

  14. I'm so glad you're getting around better and getting out and about now Di. It's touch when you just don't feel good! My hubby has a pinched nerve and he's having such difficulty too, so I'm grateful for those days we can get out and go - ANYWHERE! LOL I love your navy/silver card and the simple CAS design. With a good die, that's really all you need! Congrats to Jackie on her win and thanks for including my card among the other notables! 17. So glad to hear you are feeling better Di. Hope your health continues to improve.
It really is beginning to look a lot like Christmas at the playground, isn't it? The wreath is stunning, and every pick has at least one great idea to take away.
Just playing for fun this time.

  18. So glad you're feeling a bit better Di. Great picks as always, not sure how you manage to only pick nine!😄

    Kath x

  21. Hi Miss Di

So happy to hear that things are improving for you .. .. keep up the good work .. .. we need you fit and well for the Christmas!

Loving your card very much .. .. and yes there would have been a lot of infilling to do there!

To make sure all my bits are stuck down well I use a sheet of copy paper over the diecuts and run over it a few times with a clean brayer .. .. funny how we all have our own ways. I never even considered the back of a spoon!

I hope this week is another good one for you!

    Love Jules xx

p.s. Just playing for fun thanks Miss Di

    1. Hi Jules, both you and Shaz in Oz came up with similar ideas for ensuring that 'stick ons' actually stick! Shaz suggests using a die cutting machine and your idea is great as well. Being so OCD (or should that be CDO?) I use a curved plastic modeling tool so I can be sure each bit is exactly where I want it to be as I rub it on firmly. The spoon is just when I've mislaid said modeling tool :)

I need to get a life!

      Di xx

  22. Hi Di,
So glad to hear you are doing better. Love your card. Navy and silver is a favourite combo of mine.

And thank you for picking my card. You mentioned two little girls in Germany would love to receive it? I would love to send it to them. I could make another one so they will have one each(?). I would just send it to you if that's possible.

    Take care,

  23. Hi Miss Di and the lovely Parsnip.
Thank you so much for including my tag in your wonderful featured cards.
I am so honoured as there were as always such very super entries to choose from.
Congrats to other featured creations, and congrats to Jackie on her win.
Will be back tomorrow with this weeks snippets.
Lots of crafty love. Jenny L.

  24. Hi Miss Di, and the lovely Parsnip.
Yes please if I'm lucky enough.
I love your gorgeous snippets creation.
That lovely blue is so luxurious and gorgeous.
I managed to finish my entry earlier than I thought.
Lots of crafty love. Jenny L.

  25. Thank you so much for highlighting my decorated bottles.
Yes please for this weeks prize

  26. It sounds like you are on the mend now and that's a good thing. Be sure to not over-do it (I wrote over-di it and that may be appropriate!). Your card is really something else with those opalescent and mirrored card stock papers. I have a lot of glossy, shimmery, mirrored, metallic, etc. snippets that I never seem to get around to using. So I've been die cutting Christmas greetings out of them and tucking them into cards I send my crafting friends. I suppose I could stick some of them onto my own cards, but like I said I don't seem to use the glossy/glittery/shiny stuff (so how do I have so many snippets of it???!).

  27. Wow, what a beautiful card Di! I am loving the mirror paper and really loving that shinning star and silent night! So gorgeous!! What amazing picks and I'm honored to be in them!! I so love that wreath and rocker card. So many wonderful projects that I don't know how you pick Di! Well don't faint, but I'm here to play along again this week. lol And yes, I'd love to be in the drawing for that amazing die! Hugs, Brenda

  28. I bet you are pleased you didn't start popping the waste bits back into this one - great die though. I hope it is OK to pop more quilling in this week - just playing for fun

  29. Hi Di your card is gorgeous. I am playing a long just for fun this week. Thank you for choosing my name as the winner last week it really cheered me up I have been quite poorly. Take care. Hugs Jackie

  30. I'm glad to read you are improving but sad that you are still suffering. I hope you continue to improve each day and are back to your old self soon! Your snippets card is beautiful - such an elegant looking card! You really don't need anything other than the die - beautiful! I would love to win it, so I am a yes! Well done to all the picks - I always enjoy seeing them! Congrats to the lucky winner as well! I am pleased to link up my card today - pretty much everything used was a snippet!

  31. Beautiful card! The gold against the dark background really gives such a classy, elegant look. I'm just playing for fun this week, thanks!

  32. Love the simplicity of your card Di...and fab colour choice too!
I'm playing just for fun this week :0)
Off for a nose around last week's picks...
    Helen x

  33. I love your pretty snippets card, Di! You do make the finest Ccs! And, of course, your picks are dynamite! I made it earlier this week because I stayed in town for a day! The way the days are flying by, I figured I should stay close by or I might miss another fun stop off at the Playground. I had a lovely day today catching up with everyone who was there. Since it's gotten a bit chilly, I brought a little, er, cocoa to help keep us warm. Tonight I'm over at the Boar's Butte if you and Len can manage a nightcap before I have to leave in the morning. BTW, last night you didn't even hear me in the garden trying to catch sight of Spike & Co. You are so used to their racket, you didn't budge. You might want to put up extra motion lighting, you know what I'm saying. Anyway, they are no doubt hibernating or else they didn't like the smell of Hammy (I mean no offense, just his natural miasma, you understand), cuz we didn't see nuttin. Okay, I'll hit send so you can pop over in a bit! Oh, and if there is a play, I'm not going to be an ass again this year. Someone younger has to do it this time. Thank you. Hugs, Darnell xxoo

  34. Hi Miss Di, I missed a great week in the playground, the snippets picks are stunning! Have a great week... Megan

  35. Just playing for fun Di ! thank you xxx

  36. Gorgeous elegant card Miss Di and super picks again this week and I really need all the christmas inspiration I can get! Super prize but I'm only playing for fun this week.
Glad to hear you're starting to feel better but don't overdo it xx

  37. Stunning CAS card, Di, and I love that die so much that I'll have to play for the prize this week. Happy Thanksgiving on Thursday to all my fellow ladies in the USA. :-D

  38. Your die has made a very stylish card Di. I love the dark blue pearl card. I am trying not to buy too much more new 'stuff', but prizes don't count, so I would like to be in the draw for this one please. I am off for a closer look at that circle side-step card now. It is beautiful. Kate x

  39. Oh, I do love your elegant and simple card design Di. That die is such a spectacular one that it really stands on its own, doesn't it? Yes please to this week's prize, and I'm happy to hear you're starting to feel more like yourself.

  40. Sometimes simple really is best. Love this, Di. X

  41. A little late in checking in this week Di, but so pleased to hear you are improving with still taking things easy. Your card is stunning and I love your picks this week. It's a yes please from me for this week's prize draw, thank you!

    Just playing for fun.

  46. just playing for fun this week. hugs Mrs A.

  47. So glad there is less shrieking! A sure sign you are feeling a little less painful! Gorgeous card! Definitely needs no further embellishments, perfect as it is! Fabulous picks and congratulations to Jackie! Yes please! I would love to be entered into the draw for the awesome die set, thank you!. Enjoy Parsnip's carol singing! Take care of yourself! xxxxx

  48. Thanks for including my tag among the gorgeous picks, I really must make tags more often! Glad to hear you are on the mend, it's a long slow process isn't it? Just playing for fun this week - glad to have found time to join in as I've been away at Mum's and now feel like hibernating with the teapot and gin bottle for the rest of the year!!!

  49. Elegant card Di and thanks for the chance to win the gorgeous die!
    Hugs, Hazel x

  50. I am glad you're feeling a little better. Wow, amazing card with great die, thank you for the chance to win it.
