I used:
- 5.5" x 4.25" white card blank, side opening
- snippet of sparkling silver self adhesive paper by X-Cut, popped onto a snippet of white card and die cut using a die from Waffle Flower's A2 'Layering' dies - just smaller than the card front
- snippets of the same self adhesive sparkling silver and also sparkling deep red X-Cut paper, cut into quarter inch wide strips (the papers aren't cheap and I squirrel every little scrap away!)
- stuck the snippet strips alternately onto another snippet of white card and set it aside for the moment
- die cut a panel from yet another snippet of white card, using a slightly smaller Waffle Flower A2 'Layering' die
- then used a Lil'Inkers die called 'Merry & Bright' to die cut a sentiment aperture, which has a stitched border all around it
- used a Spellbinders square die to die cut a square from the sparkly striped piece I made up earlier
- then carefully stuck it behind the sentiment aperture using a bit of a Zig glue on the letters then carefully peeling of first one side of red line tape then the other three sides - doing it that way gives you a better change of getting it right!
- then added the whole sentiment panel to the sparkling silver one using red line tape before then adding that to the card front using Collall glue (I find that red line tape adheres better to glitter paper - hence the mixture of adhesive!)
- finished!
I wanted to be sure to use snippets and found the red and silver 'candy cane' idea on Pinterest. To be honest, the examples I've seen using just plain backing, whether sparkly or not, all look great - but I'm a sucker for making life hard for myself when time is short. Also, red line tape is really unforgiving with no 'wiggle room' and the silver border isn't even on both sides - but a blind man on a galloping horse wouldn't really notice ☺. However, Len loved it and immediately got the 'candy cane' look of it - clever chap!
I'm sure you're all aware that Lil'Inker has closed down. It was a little while back but I was lucky enough to manage to get this die before it disappeared off the shelves.
And of course today's prize is this:
It's the Lil'Inker's 'Merry and Bright' die - yay! AND, happy dance, I snapped up three (plus my own one of course) as prizes so you have three chances to win this lovely die! Soon to be nowhere to be found and already not here in the UK as I actually tried to get some more after this post went live and I realised how popular it is ...........so well worth playing for.
In the past, I've combined various prize items to make a card. However this year we have more single items as prizes but I've bought more than one of the item so there are several chances to win. I do love putting a selection together but it does take a lot more time on my part. As I've said already though, there is a bumper (ish) prize coming up at some point - you'll just have to wait and see!
At the end of all of the celebrations I'll do a massive draw session for all the prizes using the one Mr Linky - which is on the main snippets post HERE along with details of exactly how to join in - so you do need to have entered one snippets make over on that post during the three weeks that the challenge runs for to be in with a chance :) Maximum of one entry please - to keep things fair for those who may not have time to craft. Mr Linky closes at 11am on Saturday 9th January so you do need to have added a snippets make by then to be eligible for the draw.
Do please take time to read 'the rules' on the post in the above link. No-one has found them confusing, as yet, but they really do cover a lot of ground and are worth reading.
Just leave a comment on this post if you would like the chance to win today's prize.
I'm sure many of you are in one form of lock down or another. It was a shock on Saturday to see the sudden changes to restrictions here in the UK and heartbreaking for many really genuine people who had made plans to be with family over Christmas. And of course the UK isn't the only country making huge changes. Not the best Christmas present for a lot of people
All I can say is that the Playground will remain open, Parsnip, Dudley and I will be here watching out and regularly wiping down the swings with Dettol wipes and more prizes will be appearing. We have a huge box of disposable masks at the gate and also a bin with scissors to snip the elastic as you leave them to be disposed of. This is to protect wildlife from being choked or strangled. You truly should wear disposable masks for one time only. They become less effective rapidly and I know that my dentist insists you were one of their brand new masks on a visit. No doubt SaRn our 'Prefect Extraordinaire' will be behind the bike shed controlling the crowds and dispensing hot mulled wine and mince pies! And this year I'm turning a blind eye to it and will be knocking back the drinkies and nibbles along with you! Just remember that Parsnip and Dudley are both 'under age'!
If I make some silly mistakes with dates and timings or anything else (thank you Sarn my dear girl for your email - appreciated) then please drop me an email (NOT in a comment as I will possibly delete it and may also delete a yes please at the same time). A lot of this is copy and paste and I'm doing my best.
Love from Parsnip, Dudley and of course me,
Hi Di! Awesome card - awesome die! Yes, please!
ReplyDeleteAnd thanks for the heads up at Mrs. A's ... I love that type of puzzle!! So fun - unless you're searching for that last bugger for too long!!! lol
This sparkly card looks so festive. Love the colours combo. Yes please for the prize.
ReplyDeleteHi Di, Gorgeous card - Yes Please I would love that die to use for next years cards - Maurs xxx
ReplyDeleteHow did I not order that die when I discovered Lil' Inker was going out of business?! I really love it & your candy cane sparkly design! Fabulous card, Di--so festive! Please put my name in the drawing. Wishing all of you a happy holiday. Much better to be safe this year & not be dead when Dec. 2021 gets here! I'll be enjoying the festivities virtually--haha! Hugs, Greta
ReplyDeleteWhat a beautiful die, and perfect for the gorgeous background you made. A big YES PLEASE from me to this one.
ReplyDeleteAs for Mrs A's puzzles - they are driving me slowly bonkers(er).
We're one of the families affected by the changed Christmas rules as daughter lives in a tier 4 area. So instead of 7 people for two days, we will be 3 people for just one meal. And the announcement came too late to change my online shopping order - so any forthcoming food shortages are definitely not going to affect us!
A fabulous card Di and I would love a chance to win the prize, please!
ReplyDeleteI've already joined in with Mrs A's 'Spot the Difference' - great fun and she's making then tougher each time!

Fabulous candy stripe card, and fabulous die Di, so yes please. I like fiddly cards, but try not to make too much work for yourself ;) xxx
ReplyDeleteyes please to these fabulous die! Your candy cane striped glitter backing is so fun and creative...and I can only imagine the headaches it caused putting it together. When I first saw it, I assumed you used striped glitter paper but no...you had to torture yourself, haha! The results are worth it though, and a great way to use those snippets.
ReplyDeleteI am SO far behind on my gift wrapping and tag making, so I'm off to bed so I can get up early and slog away again. Thank you for the giveaways, and for sharing this beautiful card.
So sparkly and pretty, Di!! Yes, please, to being in the draw for this lovely die. I adore the striped candy cane effect you made. Festive and wonderful.
ReplyDeleteThank you for the fun Holiday game with all your generous prizes. You are a dear.
I am stunned by the state of things worldwide with this virus. We are very fortunate where I live. A number of people here have contracted it, but only one person I know has been seriously ill with it. She had pre-existing health conditions and is doing much better now, thankfully.
Stay well and have a lovely holiday, even with all the weirdness!

ReplyDeletePS I’ve already got my order in with Sarn. 😉 xx
What a beautiful and sparkly card! This die is gorgeous and I would love to win so please put me in the list of hopefuls for this prize. I understand your frustration about the pandemic. I hope people just do their best and sacrifice some of their "rights" so we can get back to normal. Wishing you and your family a very happy Christmas and a new year that is healthy and filled with real hugs and big gatherings!
ReplyDeleteLove this card Di! Yes please! x
ReplyDeleteBright and sparkly is what we need right now. I've just had a silver spray out with interesting results! Yes please to this prize and thank you for the chance. How very rude of Mrs A to suggest such a thing 😂 Mulled wine and mince pies? I'll be there with bells on, just need to get that card finished. xxx
ReplyDeleteI just love your sparkly candy cane background ! Yes please to the due. We were supposed to have eldest son on Boxing Day and stepdaughter and partner the day after but now it’s just us and youngest son on Christmas Day . He’ll be talking a big doggy bag home with him! xx
ReplyDeleteDi, When I have a problem with 'unforgiving' red line tape, I tell everyone that I planned it that way. lol Your placement, though off center, is so straight it could easily have been planned.
ReplyDeleteI have to put in for winning one of these 3 dies because I love using dies and this one is no longer available! Please, please, please, fingers crossed, may the crafting gods be kind to me...
Di, this is such a sparkly card and has given me and idea to CASE it for next year's Christmas card stash. Yes please, I would like Prize B!

Lovely card. Love the big sentiments that become the main feature of a card. So yes for the prize. I did read in our news that UK residents were banned from travel to many places. Hope you all are in line to get vaccine soon.
ReplyDeleteOh, YES PLEASE, for this gorgeous die! Thank you for another awesome prize! Your card is stunning with all the sparkle and the beautiful die-cut!
ReplyDeleteOur annual family get-together at my brother's has been cancelled so it's just Brian and me for Christmas. Disappointing but understandable.
That bike shed is sounding better and better! I'm still planning to bring my chocolate yule logs (2, I think) as well as my old records. Goodness knows, I need some fun!
This is a lovely sparkly card di...I like the candy cane idea...hard work as you say but worth it! Yes please to the prize B xx
ReplyDeleteWhat a brilliant idea and yes! even I got the candy cane link. Love your die and your silver background, who said it wasn't even? Looks good to me. I'm not making anything at the moment so will be in for the New Year party - hopefully! Don't get too drunk behind that shed and keep Sarn in control, if you can!
ReplyDeleteKeep Safe
Wishing you a Very Happy Christmas.

ReplyDeleteOoops, after hit the Publish button I couldn't remember if I said Yes please to the prize...so YES PLEASE!
ReplyDeleteStripes are huge right now and your card is beautiful! Love the sparkle and the font of this die-cut sentiment... so it’s a definite yes from me for prize B. It’s a shame L’il Inkers went out of business.

ReplyDeleteJanice x
A nice prize today, and you made a lovely card with it. But I don't have to be in the draw, so someone else has the chance to win!
ReplyDeleteLia xx
Hi lovely Di, I am so pleased to see you are still celebrating. I'm just popping in to say hi. I will enter a snippets card tomorrow but I'm just here for the fun and to say have a wonderful Christmas. I am just struggling with all the last minute cancellations. It's so very hard not to even be able to give Daisy and Jack their pressies. hey ho! Hugs xxx
ReplyDeleteThis is fab Di - love your sparkly candy cane background!
ReplyDeleteI'm a 'yes please' for the prize draw.
Helen x
The large sentiment really makes a statement on this card, lovely glitz and glam. Yes, please, for this prize, thanks for the chance.
ReplyDeleteWhat a gorgeous card!! I LOVE all that fabulous sparkle!! And I can imagine this die being used to create a shaker card as well! I think I will say "Yes, please!" for this one as well. Sorry to hear you've been placed on more restrictions. : ( Here in the Northeast USA we've been let up on a bit, but I imagine it will go back after the holidays.
ReplyDeleteOh WOW! I love the sparkly stripes on this card. What a perfect way to use of those snippets. And to create a candy cane pattern is such an excellent background for this die. (Which, by the way, I'd love to have in my collection. So yes please to the draw!)
ReplyDeleteWonderful Schparkly card Di - yes please for the draw too.
ReplyDeleteStay safe
Blessings
Maxine
Gorgeous with your sparkly candy cane background. Sorry to hear about last minute changes to the restrictions. I really don't understand how people haven't got it yet. Stretching the rules in the short term will not go unnoticed and may have unpleasant consequences. Good job all these selfish people didn't have to put up with world war II and those challenges!! I am glad the playground is so sensibly managed with regard for humans and animals in equal measure. Take care and enjoy yourselves. Yes please to be in the draw. Very pretty die. HUGZ
ReplyDeleteThis is an absolutely gorgeous card! I love the way you have put the red and silver together and yes please for the draw...this dye is awesome!
ReplyDeleteI can't believe you put that stripy paper together with 1/4-inch strips of paper -- you are the queen of detail work! Well done.
ReplyDeleteYes please on this prize.
I LOVE your card, Di!!! How beautifully put together, and so festive!! Merry Christmas!
ReplyDeleteSusan
(Oh, and yes please to the prize)
Your card is fantastic, and I'll mark up any "oddities" to it's perfectly handmade! Thank you very much!
ReplyDeleteYes please on the prize -- you are just too fabulous and generous!
I love your striped panel behind this lovely die cut - what a clever way to use snippets! Yes please to the prize!
ReplyDeleteWonderful card. Love the background and the die you have used is great. Yes, I would love to be in the draw, please.
ReplyDeleteValerija xx
I'm so far behind in my blog reading!! I don't want to be one of those people who join at the end and say yes please every day but I'm going to say Yes, please to the prize. I love this card with it's glitter. Thanks for the reminder to snip the elastic. My husband and his team use disposable masks and I'll have to remind him about this today.
ReplyDeleteWhat an absolute stunner of a card Di! I love the candy cane effect and it looks even more festive all sparkly as you have done. I have a similar die so it's a no thank you from me - but thanks for the inspiration! Thanks also for a very good point about snipping the elastic on the disposable masks to protect wildlife. Vicky xx
ReplyDeleteI thought I had already commented here, but I probably got distracted and did not finish and publish my comment. Anyway, I adore your glittery striped background and I'm saying Yes, please to the prize. This die would be perfect for creating shaker cards too!
ReplyDeleteMarianne x
