Cross stitch Christmas card

Recently I was thinking about what crafts I could do easily that are small and easy to take on holiday. Knitting and cross stitch have been past favourites. And then I spotted a tag that I made last July and wrote about HERE (an MFT 'Cross Stitch Tag' die set the same as I'd used was a Snippets prize as well). It's worth taking a peek at the post if you didn't see it first time round - there are some tips on using the die set. However, coming up to a whole year later, the finished tag was still on the desk waiting to be used on a card, shame on me. So this is what I ended up with:
I used:

- A6 (UK size) white card blank, tent style

- a piece of slightly smaller patterned 'Merry Christmas' paper from the LOTV 'Krafty Christmas' paper pad - just glued onto the card front

- and then my ready made tag glued on top - finished!

In truth, this was so fast it's almost embarrassing to write a post about it - but I like to keep a record of each card I make ☺

Next job is to make up a little box with some die cut cross stitch blanks, patterns, the relevant embroidery floss, couple of needles and a small pair of scissors ready to grab whenever I feel the urge - a great way to make some Christmas toppers.

  1. You've turned your tag into a lovely Christmas card, Di. However, I think this post should come with a warning that using the cross stitch die can become addictive! That's certainly what happened to me after I read your post last July. I already have a bag packed with cross stitch blanks, patterns, needles, scissors and I've been using crochet cotton instead of embroidery floss. My bag has travelled to the Norwegian fjords, Derbyshire and Surrey so far this year and it will be off to North Devon soon. With the wet summer we've had, there has been plenty of time to complete a number of different cross stitch patterns. xx

  2. You've made a great card with your super cross stitch tag and I'd say your plan to take some of these blanks as 'pick up' projects is an excellent one and probably even more portable than the usual fabric cross stitch.

  3. A lovely card Di and beautiful tag. I also have a wallet of small cross stitch items to take away in our campervan. I also take a wallet of small stamped images and my Promarkers so I have plenty to do if the weather is bad. I think I may be needing them this year!

  4. The tag makes a fantastic card Di. I very often stamp images and take them away with pens or pencils to complete.

  5. It's a great festive tag which has made a lovely festive card. Top job!

Happy cross-stitching. Used to do it for hours, but not these days . . . too much shoulder ache for an old crock like me!

    Happy midweek!
PS: I'm enjoying emptying out the office swing bin which was full to the brim of water this morning after last night's thunderstorms! No-one will do anything to fix the problem externally DUE TO SEAGULLS! Rolls eyes to the heavens!

  6. It is a lovely tag. I think cross stitch was one of the first crafts I taught to some of our children when they were old enough to completely understand. Picking out the floss was always a delight. Whether that color was needed or not. [Bunny]

  7. I love this cross stitched sleigh image and do remember seeing it a while ago, and it looks great with the LOTV paper Di, and a great idea to put a little kit together for using on the move and I usually take a painting kit with me when we go away. I used to do cross stitch but haven't done any for a long time now. x

  9. It’s actually stopped raining for a bit and Mr Squirrel is busy hanging upside down on the nut feeder helping himself. This is a cute little tag and makes for a great card. I have bought two die cuts for making tcross stitch designs but not tried them out yet. Hugs Mrs A.

  14. A very different card with that cross-stitched tag! Now I have no patience and time enough for cross stitching, but a lot of years ago I loved it, instead.

  19. Enjoy your stitching - it is always a pleasant change from colouring etc, and takes relatively little space when travelling. Love how you have made up the tag, keeping the background simple so the tag can take centre stage
