1st Birthday card for Jack

One of our little neighbours just celebrated his 1st Birthday. After all the Christmas cards I made for the Playground Celebrations, I just sat and stared into space for ages with no idea what to make for him - in the end I came up with this:
I used:

- 5" x 7" white card blank

- piece of pale blue pearlescent card just slightly smaller than the card front, glued in place

- patterned paper from the LOTV 'Bear Necessities' paper pad, trimmed a bit smaller than the blue backing card and glued in place

- the image is from the LOTV 'Babies' Art Pad, die cut with a Tonic Studio's circular die and then layered onto a scalloped circle of pale blue pearlescent card

- then I backed snippets of chocolate brown and pale blue pearlescent card with Stick-It adhesive sheet

- from the brown card I die cut the sentiment and the '1st' using a Presscut 'Happy Birthday' die and numbers and letters from the Memory Box 'Classic Numbers' and the Tattered Lace 'Alphabet - Anniversary Classic' dies

- and from the pale blue pearlescent card I die cut the letters to spell out Jack's name

- positioned the letters and numbers where I thought they looked best and then stuck them in place - burnishing to make sure they say put

- finally I glued the assembled image topper in place and called it done!

Some of you might have picked up that I was struggling with my much loved pink Cuttlebug here in the weeks leading up to Christmas. Thankfully, Santa brought me a new one (I'll get used to the retro shape and bright green in time - although the folding handle is a revelation, great idea!). I used the new CB for this card and was astonished at just how easy die cutting can be - I'd obviously forgotten as my old CB became old and cranky (sounds like me!) with much less pressure, meaning I had to fiddle around adding shims for a decent cut!

Wahoo, happy dance here! And Santa did consult me beforehand - rather than waste the little stock of cutting plates I have as spares I decided to stick with a Cuttlebug. Takes up less space than some of the other models as well - but one day I'll have a bigger one as well, maybe :) Just need to clear some space and move a few things around.

Many thanks to the prize winners for sending me your addresses so promptly! All prizes apart from Kitty's were posted off yesterday - I think Kitty is having computer problems so will just have to wait until I hear from her. I have a slight feeling she did move house so am not going to risk sending her prize to the wrong address :)

  1. How lovely that Santa brought you a new Cuttlebug Di and I must admit most of the time the larger plates are unnecessary and the CB is certainly robust too. I love your baby card and the cute LOTV image and paper go so prettily with the blue scallop mat and brown sentiment and number. It's great the way you have put the letters of the name around the edge of the circle too. x

  2. Such a cute card, Di, and a great design. The image is adorable!

I know what you mean about getting inspiration for non-Christmas cards after being in Christmas mode for so long. I've got a few more cards that I need to make this week and I seem to be going round circles trying to come up with ideas.

Have fun with your new Cuttlebug! xx

  9. It's really hard to get your crafty brain back into non festive mode isn't it? You've done a lovely job here though, and now the Easter Eggs and Hot Cross buns are appearing in the shops it will be a lot easier to move on to non Christmas things!

  10. A lovely card for a one year old - LOTV come up with some great images. I wondered if Santa might bring you a new die cutting machine as you said your old one was a bit of a struggle and a good idea to stick with what you know and have spare plates for.

  11. Stares into space... yep, know that feeling!
I love my bug and have a spare hidden away in the cupboard. I did invest in a Sizzix Big Shot Plus earlier this year (sometimes bug's too small for what I want to make and I need the A4 footprint), but bug will always have pride of place in my heart. X

  22. Cute, cute card! Great colors on it, but that greeting takes the cake (and now that you have the cake, let's sneak out back and eat it together). As for the New CB, enjoy it! I had no idea a folding handle was a new thing but that's awesome! My Big Shot handle fell off. I still have the nut/bolt/doohickey to put it back together but realized that you can still crank fine without it being screwed in and you can remove the handle for transport. Ooooh!

  25. Great image and that HB die is my favourite HB sentiment die. Really lovely card.
My Cuttlebug is bright green and I have had it for years and years and wouldn't be without it even though I do like my Grand Caliber and it has been very useful, if possible my first choice is my Cuttlebug. Lovely present.
    Have a good weekend.
