One of our little neighbours just celebrated his 1st Birthday. After all the Christmas cards I made for the Playground Celebrations, I just sat and stared into space for ages with no idea what to make for him - in the end I came up with this:
- 5" x 7" white card blank
- piece of pale blue pearlescent card just slightly smaller than the card front, glued in place
- patterned paper from the LOTV 'Bear Necessities' paper pad, trimmed a bit smaller than the blue backing card and glued in place
- the image is from the LOTV 'Babies' Art Pad, die cut with a Tonic Studio's circular die and then layered onto a scalloped circle of pale blue pearlescent card
- then I backed snippets of chocolate brown and pale blue pearlescent card with Stick-It adhesive sheet
- from the brown card I die cut the sentiment and the '1st' using a Presscut 'Happy Birthday' die and numbers and letters from the Memory Box 'Classic Numbers' and the Tattered Lace 'Alphabet - Anniversary Classic' dies
- and from the pale blue pearlescent card I die cut the letters to spell out Jack's name
- positioned the letters and numbers where I thought they looked best and then stuck them in place - burnishing to make sure they say put
- finally I glued the assembled image topper in place and called it done!
Some of you might have picked up that I was struggling with my much loved pink Cuttlebug here in the weeks leading up to Christmas. Thankfully, Santa brought me a new one (I'll get used to the retro shape and bright green in time - although the folding handle is a revelation, great idea!). I used the new CB for this card and was astonished at just how easy die cutting can be - I'd obviously forgotten as my old CB became old and cranky (sounds like me!) with much less pressure, meaning I had to fiddle around adding shims for a decent cut!
Wahoo, happy dance here! And Santa did consult me beforehand - rather than waste the little stock of cutting plates I have as spares I decided to stick with a Cuttlebug. Takes up less space than some of the other models as well - but one day I'll have a bigger one as well, maybe :) Just need to clear some space and move a few things around.
Many thanks to the prize winners for sending me your addresses so
promptly! All prizes apart from Kitty's were posted off yesterday - I
think Kitty is having computer problems so will just have to wait until I
hear from her. I have a slight feeling she did move house so am not
going to risk sending her prize to the wrong address :)
How lovely that Santa brought you a new Cuttlebug Di and I must admit most of the time the larger plates are unnecessary and the CB is certainly robust too. I love your baby card and the cute LOTV image and paper go so prettily with the blue scallop mat and brown sentiment and number. It's great the way you have put the letters of the name around the edge of the circle too. xReplyDelete
Such a cute card, Di, and a great design. The image is adorable!ReplyDelete
I know what you mean about getting inspiration for non-Christmas cards after being in Christmas mode for so long. I've got a few more cards that I need to make this week and I seem to be going round circles trying to come up with ideas.
Have fun with your new Cuttlebug! xx
What an adorable card for a small boy, I ber that was well received, and congrats on your new toy xxxReplyDelete
Lucky you, getting crafty things for Christmas. I love my cuttlebug, and as you say, it doesn't take up much roomReplyDelete
oh what a cute card for a 1 yr old! I too have been sitting and staring into space wondering what to create! Good for Santa bringing you a new CB die cut machine! Have fun with it ;)ReplyDelete
Thanks for waiting Kitty, Di! :) You are in right, she has crashed her hard drive so she can't read blogs and mails. Hope that she could repair her pc soon!!ReplyDelete
Your card for your little neighbour Jack is a delight, such a cutie!
A perfect first birthday card Di!ReplyDelete
I love my Cuttlebug too and would definitely have to replace it with another one if need be!
A beautifully delicate creation with the pretty image and soft colours Di.ReplyDelete
It's really hard to get your crafty brain back into non festive mode isn't it? You've done a lovely job here though, and now the Easter Eggs and Hot Cross buns are appearing in the shops it will be a lot easier to move on to non Christmas things!ReplyDelete
A lovely card for a one year old - LOTV come up with some great images. I wondered if Santa might bring you a new die cutting machine as you said your old one was a bit of a struggle and a good idea to stick with what you know and have spare plates for.ReplyDelete
Stares into space... yep, know that feeling!ReplyDelete
I love my bug and have a spare hidden away in the cupboard. I did invest in a Sizzix Big Shot Plus earlier this year (sometimes bug's too small for what I want to make and I need the A4 footprint), but bug will always have pride of place in my heart. X
Such a cute card Di, Jacks a lucky boy xxReplyDelete
A gorgeous image and ideal for a little fella who's 1. Funny how we get tunnel vision sometimes especially with all of the Christmas cards we make.ReplyDelete
A really sweet image and I love the colours. Just perfect for Jack's First Birthday. Enjoy your new CB. Like Donna I got a Big Shot Plus last year but use my CB most of the time. I will certainly replace it when the time comes. BarbxxReplyDelete
Terrific 1st birthday card. Glad u like yr new toy. XxxReplyDelete

Gorgeously sweet card for Jack, fabulous colours - perfect! It's so cool you have a new Cuttlebug, fab present! Thank you for sending the prizes out, you are so kind and generous! Will let you know when my awesome prize arrives! xxxReplyDelete
I'm struggling with post festive makes too. You did a great job with this cutie. My prize arrived today thanks so much. Lynn xReplyDelete
You made a gorgeous card Di...obviously staring into space was the way to go...LOL. LOTV images are so gorgeous. What a clever man Santa is and you obviously had been a very good girl. Keep snug and enjoy the weekend.Hugs xxxReplyDelete
This is so adorable Di! I love that image and you have displayed it so beautifully! Hugs, RobinReplyDelete
Such a cute card, Di. Happy birthday to the little man. I'm hoping to have a creative day on Sunday and use some things I got from Santa too :)ReplyDelete
Such a cute card - love the LOTV topper and papers. Enjoy your new Cuttlebug - aren't new toys great to play with!ReplyDelete
Cute, cute card! Great colors on it, but that greeting takes the cake (and now that you have the cake, let's sneak out back and eat it together). As for the New CB, enjoy it! I had no idea a folding handle was a new thing but that's awesome! My Big Shot handle fell off. I still have the nut/bolt/doohickey to put it back together but realized that you can still crank fine without it being screwed in and you can remove the handle for transport. Ooooh!ReplyDelete
Perfect card for a little one Di. I know just what you mean about staring into space after all the Christmas cards, I did exactly the same!ReplyDelete
I love this cute card Di, it's perfect for a 1 year old boy. I like the paper and card you used, the blue and brown colours look so pretty together. That is a super Happy Birthday die too.ReplyDelete
Great image and that HB die is my favourite HB sentiment die. Really lovely card.ReplyDelete
My Cuttlebug is bright green and I have had it for years and years and wouldn't be without it even though I do like my Grand Caliber and it has been very useful, if possible my first choice is my Cuttlebug. Lovely present.
Have a good weekend.
This is gorgeous Di and using my fave LOTV images:))) lots of huggles Sue xxxReplyDelete
So sweet! He will love it Di! BTW....thanks for the info on the dies!!ReplyDelete
What a darling. Beautiful soft pastel color scheme and the Baby is soooooo cute. I really like that die-cut sentiment (thanks for the manufacturer info).ReplyDelete
