Cuttlebug Mania Challenge - No Squares

The Cuttlebug Mania Challenge this fortnight is 'No Squares' and all you have to do is to use a manual die cutting/embossing machine (it doesn't need to be a Cuttlebug but it must be manual, not electronic). Then make your entry, link into the challenge, link to the challenge in your own blog post and and make sure that you also say what products you used for any die cutting/embossing. We're a nosey lot and do like to know just what you've used :)

Our sponsor this fortnight is 'Digiscrapkits' - over here.

Digi Scrap Kits - Artwork by Trina Walker (Clark)
Most of my card are square these days, with a few oblong ones thrown in for good measure - but after some head scratching I came up with a rocker card, and not a right angle to be seen:
I used:

- a pre-coloured image from The Hobby House called 'Spring Bringer', die cut slightly smaller using a die from the Tonic Studio's 'Circle Layering' set (I wrote quite extensively about this set about 10 days ago in a Christmas rocker card post)

- layered the image onto a snippet of SU's 'Crisp Cantaloupe' card which had been die cut using a Spellbinders 'Scalloped Circle' nestie

- stamped the word 'Hello' onto the image using VersaFine 'Vintage Sepia' ink and a sentiment stamps from the Stampendous ''Happy Messages' set

- to make the base I used the two largest dies in the circles set, cutting one from SU's 'Pistachio Pudding' and then a slightly smaller one using a sheet of Craftwork Cards 'Vintage Rose' paper

- glued them together and then scored the circle right across the centre and folded it to form the rocker base

- stuck the image panel onto the rocker base using red line tape. That was a bit tricky-woo to make sure it was all lined up fine, and whilst concentrating on the lining up I took my eye off the ball, sigh. So there's a deliberate mistake but no way was I going to rip the image layer off without wrecking the whole card. The flowers on the paper are upside down (of course they're the right way up on the back, which is the side I meant to use as the front), but then again, the flowers the little girl is carrying are also mostly upside down - so that's alright then :)

You have two weeks to join in with Cuttlebug Mania - hope you find time to come and play!

  3. Absolutely gorgeous, and I wouldn't have spotted the mistake - even once you'd said what it was, I had to think hard before it clicked. I suppose it depends on what you mean by "upside down".
Digressing a bit, as is my wont, I lived in Germany for a while and there was a tradition of going out to buy flowers on a Sunday. But everyone carried their bunches of flowers what I would have called "upside down". It looked odd at first, but really it makes a lot of sense because by the time you get them home, all the bugs and loose petals and pollen will have dropped out.
So there you have it, your card is specially designed to keep the bugs at bay!

    1. . . . and you keep all the water in the stems . . . not dripping and drying out! I always carry flower bunches upside down . . . but there's no German blood in me! LOL! xxx

  4. What a gorgeous looking rocker card Di. No-one would've noticed the flowers if you hadn't said . . . and even though you have, I still think the card looks lovely because the flowers look fine either way to me!

  7. Great card, Di, I had to scroll back up to see your 'mistake' which isn't a 'mistake' at all! Can flowers be upside down? ;-)

I had a spooky moment when I saw your card. I started making a rocker card just last night for my great niece's birthday card, only with the scalloped semi-circle base card. I covered the base in patterned paper and attached a scalloped circle just like you've done. I abandoned the card before it was finished as there wasn't enough room to added the image and the text I wanted to use, but I'll use the card for something else. I couldn't believe how similar our cards would have been. Great minds obviously think alike! ;-) xx

  8. I've never made a rocker card but I will! Love your pretty card Di and I had to scroll back because I'd not noticed the upside down paper. It doesn't look wrong at all.

I once hung a strip of wallpaper upside down and it was a whole roll - at the top of the stairs on the landing! I didn't notice it straight away either - now that's a mistake. Barbxx

  9. This is such a sweet card, and I'm not sure your "mistake" really is a mistake -- flowers grow at all kinds of odd angles -- and no one would noticed if you didn't point it out.

  10. This is such a lovely card Di and and a really cute image. The flowery paper is so pretty and I too did not notice anything amiss until you said. Those tonic dies are really useful for a card like this. x

  11. Beautiful! I did not get the error till I read your post. Even after you first mentioned it, I looked hard and did not notice. Then I read that sentence about the flowers.

I think the recipient will never notice! \\\\\they will be too busy looking at how pretty your card is!

  12. Love the rockets cards (I must try to make one!) and this is very sweet and so much pretty! Love the scallop circles and the topper and it has a fab design!
If you had not said that the flowers head were down, I would never have realized it! The background is just perfect as it is!! Great work!

  13. That is so clever Di - I now I can cut that shape with my Spellbinders dies and that means I can enter challenges that call for shaped cards in future: yay!
I had to look twice to find the error, lol, guess I'm still a little tired lol!
Thanks for sharing the awesome idea Karen x
