Time for a new Snippets challenge HERE - the theme is 'Christmas in July' and to enter you must make something that adheres to the Christmas theme and also uses one or more identified snippets. Sarn and I have two consecutive challenges with the 'Christmas in July' theme - and also two sets of Christmas goodies as prizes, one per challenge, to be won in plenty of time for your Christmas crafting!
Here's my Christmas snippets card:
And my snippets:
- 5.5" x 4.25" white card blank, tent style
- piece of white card, die cut using the biggest die from a Taylored Expressions set of dies called 'Petite Scallop Rectangle Stacklets' then set to one side
- die cut the top layers of the tree lights using snippets of paper found in the front pocket of my expanding snippets file, which I covered with shiny sticky backed clear film first. Die cut the underneath layers from a snippet of white sparkly card. The dies are from Lawn Fawn's 'String of Lights' set
- then die cut the 'strings' and the light 'caps' using more dies from the 'String of Lights' set and a snippet of silver card
- stamped both sentiments (which are from the Woodware 'Christmas Sparkle' stamp set) onto the scalloped panel, using a VersaFine Clair 'Morning Mist' ink pad
- used a very fine glue pen to glue the 'strings' in place, trimming any overhang from the top edge
- added the lights using thin sticky pads and Chrissie's trick of rubbing some glue stick over the sticky side before positioning them onto the card to allow a little bit of 'wiggle' if necessary
- then glued the completed card front panel onto the card blank
- and, of course I made two cards exactly the same!
The light bulbs are really shiny in real life - that laminate sticky film worked a treat!
This card is for Darnell's NBUS Challenge #52 over HERE. My NBUS was the Lawn Fawn 'String of Lights' and the Taylored Expressions 'Scalloped Rectangles' sets of dies. Also the Woodware set of sentiment stamps. If you like the sentiments I used - hop over to this fortnight's challenge in the Playground - there's a set as part of the prize!
Pupdate: Dudley exceeded his record for finding mischief the other day. I was idly stroking him and felt something sticky around a shoulder and up one side of his face. When I looked - it was yucky black and also it ponged. He has a habit of running his shoulder and the side of his face along the 'easy care grass' in the back garden - and somehow he'd chose exactly where a pigeon had pooped! ** Gross - it took two of us to thoroughly clean it off and he was lucky we were busy doing other things or else he'd have been in the bath! Give him his due though - he did sit perfectly still whilst we worked on him, he's usually a wriggling little bundle. Other than that, Dudley's life is complete - he's totally in love with his new Honka Duck and all is well in his doggie world. Later this month he will celebrate being five years old!
** Don't ask me how I know the smell of pigeon poop. I just do, from bitter experience which I might write in a Tuesday Tale sometime soon - not written one of those for ages!
Love from Dudley - and of course me,
I absolutely love this colourful & shiny Christmas lights card. The sentiments used are lovely as have mixed fonts.
ReplyDeletePigeon poo? Ugh! Naughty Dudley. Glad he was a good boy while you cleaned him up. Wonder what his next trick will be? X
A fabulous card Di - that clear 'laminate' always gives a great result!
ReplyDeleteOh dear, young Dudley can really get into a pickle - at least he stood still to let you clean him!
Blessings
Maxine
The way you layered your lights is clever, and I can see how sparkly it all is, lovely sentiments too, really lit up my day haha. Can wait for the next Tuesday tale 😃 xxx
ReplyDeleteA great Christmas card which must look spectacular for real with the sparkle you added to the lights. Well done to Dudley for sitting nicely for you to clean him up after his encounter with pigeon poo - ugh!!
ReplyDeleteFabulous card and the lights are remarkable Di standing up nicely as a tent card gives you a nicer view too ooh so much of it about l recently got rid of my trampoline due to the poo poor Dudley nice that you was able to clean him up xx
ReplyDeleteThose papers worked together to create a wonderful snippets card Di! Tis beautiful. I may have gagged a bit as I visualized you stroking Dudley all covered in pigeon poop LOL That is too funny!
ReplyDeleteWonderful CAS card, love the idea of using clear film to create the shine. So pleased too to see that you have used so much NBUS. I really struggle with Christmas cards in the summer, I just can't seem to make them when it is warm and sunny. Thanks for the tale of the pigeon poo! xx
ReplyDeleteAs soon as I saw the light bulbs I wondered if you had painted them or what to get that beautiful effect! Now I know it! The laminated sticky film works really great on that blended paper! Thanks for sharing. Great design too!
ReplyDeleteSorry but I couldn’t help but laugh reading about Dudley’s latest prank. Dogs and cats rub the snout and body at certain points in their territory to indicate that it is in their possession. Sometimes they even pee or poop on it to signal more decisively if it feels like someone wants to appropriate it. That pigeon poop was a warning sign and he wanted to re-establish his possession of the territory! : D Sorry for you and Len, obviously. :) Now that he is clean again, please make some cuddles to him by me :)
Hugs!
Oh Alice - almost crying with laughter here What an insight into the World of Doggies - and it all makes so much sense, Dudley is currently lying stretched out on his back, paws neatly folded in the air - on our bed ans also snoring for England! I cuddled him for you earlier!
DeleteDi xx
I wondered how you got the lights so shiny! Great card. My dog liked sheep poo! I just blogged my card and then realised it is Christmas at the Playground - senior moment! L x
ReplyDeleteLoving your Christmas card Di, the snippet lights are just lovely. A Great design and clever how you got those lights so shiny.
ReplyDeleteOh I love your shiny fairy lights Di! Unfortunately Molly has a love of pigeon poop too 😉
ReplyDeleteI did wonder if it had been a deliberate move on Dudley's part! Aren't they little tinkers! x
DeleteYou get the prize for schparkle, Di! I'll bet the photo - which is fabulous - doesn't do the shine justice. It's a stunner! Thank you for the giggle (sorry) about Dudley, although at first I was horrified as I could just imagine fondling Nellie and coming away with pigeon poop on my fingers. Blech! Happy 5th Birthday to the dear boy! Our lass turns 12 on the 13th. Thank you for inspiring everyone at NBUS! Hugs, Darnell
ReplyDeleteLove this gorgeous card with the fabby lights! Must confess I giggled at Dudley's pigeon poop mishap, so not nice though. Take care. Hugs xxx💖💖💖
ReplyDeleteThis is such a brilliant card Di! You have shown your usual genius in selecting the paper for the lights - so clever! And then you stunned me by adding shine with a die cut piece of sticky-backed clear film which is JUST what I have been needing! Poor Dudley - fancy him dabbing on a little 'Oh de Pigeon Poop' and then having you and Len remove it unceremoniously!! Hugs, Vicky xx
