In a nutshell, Blogger have (as we suspected) been tinkering with the Followers service.
Quote from a post on 'The Real Blogger Status' dated Monday December 21st:
During the past weekend, Blogger started the process of simplifying Following. This involves removing non Google accounts and profiles from Following.
As part of this plan, starting the week of January 11, we’ll remove the ability for people with Twitter, Yahoo, Orkut or other OpenId providers to sign in to Google Friend Connect and follow blogs. At the same time, we’ll remove non-Google Account profiles so you may see a decrease in your blog follower count.
This is the link to the blog, explaining in more detail
Hope this enlightens those of you who've been wondering!
Thank you for your explaining.ReplyDelete
Hi Di, Hope you had a fabulous (and pain free) christmas.ReplyDelete
I use Google to follow and a couple of weeks (or so) ago I noticed you had disappeared from my reading list and so I had to re-follow you. I've never touched Twitter or any of these others so it seems that Google is also removing some Google profile followers in their clean up xx
Well, thanks for that, Di, hadn't spotted the explanation - lost 6 myselfReplyDelete
Happy New Year
I wonder why they feel they have to tinker with things - I always say 'if it ain't broke, don't fix it'!! Must check my reading list though. I also don't touch Twitter or Facebook etc myself - hopefully I won't lose too many followers.ReplyDelete
Hi Di, thank you for the explanation, totally missed the post from Google. Have a great week...MeganReplyDelete
Oh they ARE a menace aren't they! Leave us alone! We're happy like we are!ReplyDelete
Thanks for the explanation.
Thanks for finding this out, Di. Like Sarn, I wish they'd leave us alone! xxReplyDelete
Maddening though it is girls - we're over a barrel here so do be careful about being too vocal directly to Blogger, and also to the link I added as he is deffo. affiliated in some way. Blogger can pull the plug on your Blogger blog at any time, without any explanation! I almost got into trouble when I took them on over the commenting and verification business a little while back - which interestingly was a forerunner of this latest malarky if you think about it. Hoping that putting this in a comment might not be picked up if they're really into trawling for criticism - if not, and I and the blog disappear in a poof of smoke, there's your answer. Snigger.ReplyDelete
Thank you Miss... can we give Mr Blogger detention??? He is a b****y nuisance!ReplyDelete
Thank you for this post Di...last week overnight I lost 22 followers and knew instinctively blogger platform was upto something! This week its a seesaw...in the morning I have 2 more followers, in the evening its one down...its crazy! Also they have been trying to push google plus to us in a big way and have even relegated the follow button to an obscure spot in blogger settings. I just hope they dont remove the google friend connect widget altogether!ReplyDelete
Thanks for the update. Looks like we are at Blogger's mercy.ReplyDelete
You really should be renamed D.I. Di for all the sleuthing you do on our behalf!! Thank you for the link xxReplyDelete
I've lost 6. So annoying, as I was only one off 300! If only they observed the mantra "if it ain't broke, why fix it?" I have seriously thought of going to a different blog provider, but Blogger is definitely the most popular and easiest to useReplyDelete
What a pain Di, I noticed I lost 2 and then gained 1 so I wasn't sure if a couple of peeps just got fed up with my ramblings...LOL. I do wish Blogger would stop fiddling...but thanks for finding this out! xxReplyDelete
Thanks for letting us know about this Di, although up to now mine seems ok.ReplyDelete
Thanks for that. I was wondering what I'd done xxReplyDelete
Thank you for that I did wonder what had happened. Hugs JackieReplyDelete
It seems that Blogger has been invaded by spiteful elves... :DReplyDelete
Yep spotted this too, this morning, thanks to Shaz in Oz, well I have a Google Account just hope some of early, never heard from since, followers don't and I can get rid of themReplyDelete
Ahhh, now I know! I have been wondering.....but I got over feeling hurt if somebody leaves my blog - more important things to worry about...ReplyDelete
Thanks for the info Di xxxReplyDelete
I think the tinkering started a couple of weeks ago, we most of at the challenges lost followers as did I, over 50 in one foul sweep.ReplyDelete
Thanks for this Di. I have been away from my computer for a while and hadn't noticed. My craft blog says I have 77 followers but only shows eight photos? I will have to wait and see. Kate xReplyDelete
Thanks for the info Di. For some reason I don't appear to have been affected - yet! But know on one of my DT blogs this happened.ReplyDelete
Yes, I lost several in one day.....I think they need to live by the old rule "If it ain't broken, don't fix it'...lol!!ReplyDelete
Thanks for the info Di, it's good to know I didn't do anything to upset the couple I lost. I was surprised it made me sad, I didn't think I took any notice of how many Followers I had. It just worries me that losing a few Followers may be the tip of a much more worrying iceberg that Blogger is working on, DonnaReplyDelete
Dear Di, mm I posted on this too before I went away. Glad you shared too more that know the better, I actaully had it from Blogger Buzz updates about a week before Christmas.ReplyDelete
Really cheeses you off eh?? but as I keep telling myself it is free service. Hugs and prayers, Shaz.x
