An addition to the Playground

We have a little resident in the Playground, he's very shy but lately we've spotted him coming out for a little swim:

This is a snippets card I published ages ago - Monsieur Le Frog, complete with 'dooks' and wellies. And this is the place he's chosen to live!
We have no garden ponds close by (except for the Playground duck pond and that's fully occupied), so the resourceful little chap has taken up residence underneath a paint roller tray! I should explain that for a very long time we've had a paint tray, bought 'specially for the purpose, filled with water underneath the overhang of the bird bath. The idea is little birds can safely bathe without getting out of their depth in the big bird bath - I know, sometimes I truly think we ought to be certified as barking mad.

Monsieur Le Frog lives quietly underneath the raised part of the tray, safe from four-legged feline visitors. He can often be seen resting in the shallow end after completing several lengths of his own private swimming pool :) So far I haven't liked to disturb him by asking him to pose for a photo - but he's there, I promise.

  9. Well there you go Di - you are officially as barking as we are. We have a large tray under the lilac tree with flat rocks in it for the baby birds to stand on. This is of course next to the pond (for the newts and frogs - I had a few choruses of the froggy song last night)and also to the side of the actual bird bath where the normal birds go!!!!! lol.

As soon as I saw your card I giggled though, this one is a winner!

    Hugs to you Sue Pxxx

  10. Aw, that's so nice, Di, a new chum for Spike to play with. And no more barking than my DH providing the collared doves with their very own feeding tray (the top of a Roses tin). I love to watch the birds splashing about in the bird bath but haven't ever thought to provide a 'toddlers' pool :) Hugs, Elizabeth xx
