A third Frugal Christmas card

Here's another entry for Nessa's Frugal Christmas challenge, where you should create a Christmas card using 'non-Christmas' goodies - although Christmas sentiments and backing paper/card are allowed:
I used:

- 4" x 4" square white card blank

- snippet of 'snowflake' backing card

- snippet of white sparkly mulberry paper, torn and layered  to resemble drifted snow

- snowman made using two buttons, a little snippet of bakers twine and two teeny snippets of black card for his hat :)

- sentiment is from LOTV 'Christmas Grungy Messages', stamped onto a snippet of white card using 'Real Red'

I'd spotted this snowman idea in Quick Cards Made Easy magazine this month - but had no idea how much sorting through the button boxes it would take to find two compatible buttons. But it was fun reminiscing - I even still have the huge orange buttons from a Mary Quant trouser suit, and that sure dates me!

I had a really concerned email from a lovely bloggy pal the other evening, wondering if all was OK as I hadn't posted anything that day. Things are busy here right now with some 'teacher training' coming up - so posts may well not appear on a daily basis. As my pal and I both observed, why do we go into a frenzy of cleaning before these things?

BUT, the Playground will continue as usual, although I may have to 'tweak' opening and closing times in a couple of weeks and you'll be kept up to date about any slight changes for sure.

  1. LOVE this button snowman Di! His jaunty hat and scarf are so cute too!
I used to play with my mum's buttons for hours when I was younger! Cathy x

  2. Hi Di - super clever idea to use buttons for a snowman. I loved going through my mum's button box and started my own when I got married. Now I have mine and hers and soooo many buttons!

  3. That is just the cutest snowman - well done!

  4. Aww . . .cute button snowman Di. You're doing really well with these frugal Chrimbo cards (as is Mrs A).

    Sarn xxx

  5. Hi Di,
what fab little card. Love the idea of this.
That glitter card looks just like real snow.
    Have a wonderful crafty day.
Lots of crafty love. Jenny L.

  6. Fabulous card Di, love the little button snowman!

  7. FAB-ulous Di!! Thank you so much for playing along again :)I love how you have made him.
I do love a good rummage through a button box!
    Have a lovely day,
    Nessa xx

  8. This is so cute Di - I had to giggle at the thought of you sorting through your button boxes - this task can really take over and I have been known to spend more time in me button box when I could be in the playground!!!

This is a great idea though - I love the title Frugal Christmas challenge.

And guess what, I am smiling at a little button snowman who looks as if he is smiling back - wonder if it is time for my medication - lol!!

    Hugs to you Sue Pxxx

  9. What a cute idea. I purposefully don't keep lots of buttons as I know I'd never use them, so no rummaging in that particular drawer for me!

  10. So cute snowman
    love the play with buttons
    fantastic card my sweet friend
    hugs Tamara

  11. Well I have to say that I was bowled over when I saw this card this morning. I was so full of praise and in awe of your inventiveness, then you go and spoil it all by saying you'd seen the idea in a mag.
I think I have heard my Mother talk about Mary Quant!

    Still a fabulous card though.

    Love Kath x

  12. What a little cutie! Great idea with the buttons and with the mulberry paper for the drifting snow.
I have to try to get mine finished...I have the kids tonight till Saturday and then a crop on Saturday evening.

Eldest daughter leaves for 10 weeks in Monaco again so have to squeeze in a visit with her before she goes. Whew...I will need a vacation too!
I am off to see my Mum (about 4 or 5 hours away next weekend...maybe that will be my vacation!

Little Miss C plans to make a blitz of card tomorrow so maybe she and I will make a card each, for that chalenge

  13. Aww cutie Snowman, but he could maybe do with some of those things I talk about on my FF today!
I have some buttons if you wanna play. A serious amount of buttons in fact as everyone keeps giving them to me!

  14. button snowman is blinking genius! I've got loads of white buttons....

  15. This is as cute as a button! *wink*

  16. Hi there Di,

Cute little card! I imagine the button sorting was quite fun. I have a little jar of buttons and I just love looking at them. I've torn them off clothes, bought at yard sales, etc. so there are some really old ones - most are white in color but have big personalities!

Thanks for visiting me. I'm hoping to continue with the big sort out this weekend.

  17. Since I love buttons (oh yeah, I love many things!) I was tickled to see your button snowman with his scarf twist of bakers twine. What a delightfully frugal & altogether cheery card you have Miss. Don't envy you doing the Playground call list ...lots of entries to wade through. Will be a hard call, but you do a right proper job of it (I'm picking up that Doc M. Portwenn slang). I hope you're watching the new season for me. Can't wait til it gets to the USA! TFS & Hugs

  18. Di, your little button snowman is adorable! Fantastic idea and so creative!!!
    Love it.

  19. oh my gosh i love this card, can anybody join in the challenges? Lx

  20. You should ave asked me. I could ave given you loads of buttons. This is mega cute. hugs Mrs A.

  21. What a great idea. And he's so cute!
    Debs x
