WOYWW - 144

It's more like what's heading for the floor:
Ooops, some already down there - ahem, so that's where the half done albums of unmounted stamps have been hiding :(

But, there's still a teensy bit of working space left:
Some serious sorting needed before next Wednesday though, otherwise it could just be an arm waving from underneath a heap of stash!

What is on the desk, in the place where it should be (only available place in fact) is a card in the making - with a great hint that I picked up this week from the lovely Carol (thanks for letting me show and tell!) who comes to play each week in the Snippets Playground. It's one of those ideas that I just know lots of folk will jump in and say 'I already do this' in a slightly smug fashion - but I'm a bit slower than many :)

Basically, what's above is a piece of 6" x 6" turquoise Core'dinations card and instead of cutting into a second fresh piece to layer the image onto (like I've done for many years) - I cut the centre part out of the card so I could use it for the image layer. If you look at Carol's lovely card she did that twice for her Tatty Teddy card, by using dies.

On the card above, my next layer is to be just paper and the square of card I've cut out is larger than the top piece of turquoise card will end up so there would be a potential 'dip' underneath the image as I'm gonna use paper. To counter this I just used a piece of plain white card to 'fill the hole' - mine was cut using a craft knife, if you've cut a die out then just cut an extra one in white card. To hold the 'packing' in place I used sellotape across the back before sticking it to the actual card - it's already stuck in place in the photo. And, I still have the second, uncut square of turquoise card left untouched.

I'm a bit like Carol on this one though, she also wonders if it's a bit mean - but we do both think it's a great way of making special card stock go further. A bit more fiddling than I always have time for, but still a great tip - especially if you make lots of cards for your favourite charities or only have one large enough piece of card to play with in the right colour.

Right, I'm off for a good hop round, do go to our leader Julia's and see what she's up to today - there are some lovely looking WOYWW badges lying on her desk :) I'm hoping she's going to follow through her threat to come to our local Hobbycraft before too long for a joint 'wobble round' and a coffee :) I wonder if the fork and ladders will come along for the outing too? They've been moved so just might be brushing themselves up for a trip!

  1. I love that colour combination on your desk. I don't think the card cutting idea is mean - it makes good sense. Sometimes you can eliminate the white card by distressing the edges of the dip (if you think it may show)and using foam tape or pads for the next layer. I am all in favour of stretching my favourite paper and card as far as I possibly can. It takes me a couple of years to cut into it at all. I just like to get it out and stroke it now and then! 8. It's not mean at all, Di, in fact it has a real name and something us Scrapbookers do all the time. It's called "gutting" and when you are using huge 12x12 beautiful papers they have to go as far as possible. I gut everything, mirricard and even white card that I've used for matting and layering when using a promarker to edge the mat with. Now I know what you're going to say, being from Yorkshire being fruggle makes perfect sense!!
    Happy WOYWW

  13. Loving the Crafing Tower of Pisa!

That’s definitely a great way to make those special papers and card stock for further Di.
I tend to make plain White mats for my cards these days and colour them with my Promarkers, which saves even more of that precious card stock.

    Happy Crafting!

  14. Di, I could take some of the stamps off your hands if you've got too many LOL!!! Love the idea of organising them - I've not got enough to do that yet, but it might do to start early.....Karen 139 x

  15. I don't think it's mean, it's getting the best out of your paper :) I've heard that trick referred to as gutting ... sounds like something you would do to a fish though :( Love the colours your working with - great contrast between the blue and red. Look forward to seeing the completed card. Hope you've been having a good WOYWW. Elizabeth x #21

  19. Hi Di,
your creative place looks exactly like Mia's. I try to keep it organized (you know me) but without success. She likes her 'mess'. So paper, scissors, pens have to be all over the place.
We still got a few things left from what you gave her on our last visit and she loves to make cards ... and to put her name on them ;o)
The most favorite ones are the sparkling stickers, Livi keeps sticking them on her hands, no - not just one, the back of her hand is covered with that glittery stuff. Then she shows it to me really proud: Look Mummy, Glitzer!!
Since they are not made to be sticked on hands, they get lost and if Lucy finds them on the floor, she has a little go with them too.

  22. Hello Di,

Darn computer crashed at work today so I haven't been able to, well, you know, take a snoop around today. Will make up for it tonight when I get home.

Love that turquoise color. Oh, aren't floors for making big heaps on?

    Hugs,

  23. Great tip...funny I've done this when I make scrapbook pages, but just never made the connection to a card...silly me! Good looking desk Di..I've been there many, many times. Well, I'm going to skip over to the playground and see who has come to play. I'm really on top of things today, I'm posting another to the snippet challenge and....I actually did some housework...I think I need a nap!

  26. I've done that cut out thing before but came to the conclusion that it's fiddly and only worth it for better card stock, so I only do it once in a while now. Great desk and I'm loving seeing all the bits piled on the floor! Looks like your halo's slipping a bit m'dear!

  30. No, it isn't mean, it's a good use of special paper. Also keeps the weight down for sending. I think it's called 'gutting'.

  31. Not in the least bit mean, just clever and inspired. Makes our precious card go even further, and a good way to go if you only have one sheet left anyway. I shall remember that one. My favourite saviour of extra layering is to run a Krylon pen round the edge of the topper. It looks expensive and as if you have an extra layer. See you in the playground, as long as I get out of the greenhouse in time. xx Maggie #8

  33. I love red and turquoise together! Lovely! I think you need a side stand for all of the extra papers on your desk. I would never be able to do that, I have too many cats. lol
