Supporting the Playground

I wanted to make some little cards to include with the 'Lattice' Embossing Folders when I sent them to the Playground winners - but they had to be quick. Then I thought of the image I used today - which says it all really 'cos without you Playmates being so supportive of one another and coming regularly to play, there just wouldn't even be a Playground:
It's just a small card size - just over 3.5" x 2.5". I chopped down some DL cards which arrived here with one corner crumpled (dontcha just love it when things are badly packaged) and got two little ones out of each DL card.

I recently had to return a big package of 12" x 12" Core'dinations card stock - it arrived just in a big padded envelope (a box would have been much more suitable) with no additional heavy weight card to protect it, and not even the words 'Please do not bend' written on the flipping thing. Our own postman (who knows I buy a lot of craft goodies and is always careful) was on his hols so his enterprising replacement only folded the very fat package in half to squeeze it through the letter box here! To be honest I suspect it hadn't travelled well anyhow, but that sure was the last straw for it - he must have really forced the thing through the letterbox too :(

Anyhow, back to the card.

I used:

- white card stock already folded

- a die from the 'Rounded Banner' set by MFT Die-namics, placed so it didn't cut off the folded edge. These are super dies - and once again it was my bad influence Amanda who 'forced' me to buy them :)

- stamp from SU's 'For the Birds' set, coloured with Whispers pens so there was no bleeding through the card

Those little SU birdie stamps are super fast to use as well 'cos the sentiment is part of the same stamp.

I'm entering this into the current Less Is More challenge where you have to use a shape other than a square or rectangle - plus it's 'one layer'.

  1. Good thing for Amanda cuz you made a great card with this die!
Love the sweet stamped image and sentiment!

I have had things folded in half...my friend Sue from Olliesmam sent me an 8x8 card...it was folded in half to fit into my huge postal box! Grrrr!

I was so annoyed I made them refund the postage and I am giving it to Sue when I meet up with here in Scarborough! lol

  2. OMG !!! Such a shame about your delivery of cardstock !!!! I would say 'unbelievable' but it's not !!! I once sent a painting commission to a friend in London - it was a suitably packaged and sturdy AND had Do Not Bend on it, but they had bent the corner right over !!!! His local Postie was devastated and helped him make a claim !!
I hope you can still use the cardstock OK :-(

Beautiful little card and such a sweet image :-D

  3. You are resourceful Di! The cut down and shaped card looks great and I love that sweet image. How disappointing to receive a bashed parcel. Vicky x

  4. Sweet little card Di. Nothing surprises me about mail deliveries. I once had a parcel left on the path to the side gate in torrential rain!! It was very soggy when I got home from work and found it! Also had parcels thrown over the gate!

  5. How great that you managed to salvage a damaged card to make this great shaped one.
Poor packing is inexcusable isn't it, considering the cost we have to pay for the shipping of these things.
    Thanks so much

  9. Hi there Di - I love this little card - definitely a smiler 'cos I lurve the sentiment with the image. Really cheerful.

Sorry to hear about your creased goodies. It's made my blood boil just reading it. My hubby made a huge post box to fit on the wooden gate for my parcels and any magazines - and....... the postman puts letters in it and then folds magazines in half and shoves them through the l/box just to ensure I can't use any free papers! Grrrrr.

    Hugs to you Sue Pxxx

  10. Your postman sounds like ours. Except ours can't get in the right box the first time. It takes forever to get our mail! Love this shaped card and the stacked birds. Did that parrot stack them up like that?

  11. What a cute little card Di. Shame about the card damage....If my card parcels have ever been damaged they usually send me a replacement without wanting the damaged back so there is always bits that can be salvaged from it :-)

  16. Must be the same guy we have. They cram it in the mailbox however it will go, then we have to twist & tug to remove it. Hope your replacement arrives in better condition. Your birdies are so cute, they made me smile. Thank YOU for having the Playground, where we can puddle around, get to know some lovely people. It's fun. TFS

  17. I am always amazed by how badly some companies package there goods for delivery and by the extraordinary lengths the postie will go to to get it through the letterbox. I heard mine grunting the other day cos the post had gotten stuck so I opened the door and gave him the shock of his life, ok so it was early and I didn't look my best but it was still funny lol. I do love that I get the credit for the dies and my bad influence is still a large. At a recent craft fair the owner of the stall said I should be on commission as I had sold so much to the other customers lol. I love the card by the way just got a bit distracted.Hugs, Amanda x

  18. Well, I think you should be grateful to Amanda, Di, because that die is brilliant - I love the shape of the card, small but perfectly shaped, rather like yourself :)) And the little athletic birdies are super cute.

Can't believe your postie did that ... as we would say up here, what a numpty! But then the packer at the point of distribution showed even less sense - Core'dinations is not a cheap cardstock to be so careless with. Hope the stockist learned the lesson well, use better packing materials in future.

    Hugs, Elizabeth xx

  20. Love this image Di, great snippety thinking to rescue your card stock. I hope your next parcel arrives in better nick!

We only get mail 3 times a week where we live and often have to drive to the P.O. to collect parcels, it can be a hassle but I guess it lessens some of the damage. Cathy x

  21. Hello there Di, Fabulous and so cute, I love your card! Naughty postman :-( As you say a sign do not bend would make a difference, even so how disappointing to have the beautiful paper in your hand and it's ruined :-(
