Pixie's Snippets Playground #368 - Prize F

Oh well, another day of heavy rain here on Boxing Day, which meant that Len's planned 'fun shoot' archery morning was postponed until Saturday - or perhaps the morning of New Year's Day. He's a bit like a guy with cabin fever right now. It isn't even dry enough to take Dudley out for a walk - he just shoots out into the back garden, does what he needs to and races straight back in when it's such rotten weather (of course I'm referring to Dudley!).

I have an important message for Andre M who has said yes to some of the prizes on offer - do remember that you have to add a card into Mr Linky. You can use Blogger if you have a blog, although I can't see one against your name. Or, Instagram or Flickr. The draw is only open to people who enter a card, or similar, using snippets into Mr Linky which appeared on 22nd December.

Anyhow, here's today's snippets card and prize:
I used:

- 5.5" x 4.25" white card blank, side opening

- a snippet of Tim Holtz 'Sparkle' card which I'd already washed with alcohol inks some while ago

- stamped the beautiful Nellie's Choice 'Christmas Silhouette' (a gift from Shaz in Oz) onto the snippet, using Memento 'Tuxedo Black' ink (little warning here, they don't work too well together - the water based Memento ink takes forever to dry on top of an alcohol ink surface and is also a little 'patchy'. Another time I'll try Stayzon or perhaps heat emboss the image. We live and learn :)

- then die cut the image using a die from Spellbinder's 'Wonky Rectangles' set of nesting dies - and also die cut a snippet of white fun foam using a one size smaller die from the same set

- as usual, I ran a ball ended embossing tool around the die cut image whilst it was still in the die to create the 'frame effect'

- backed the image panel with the fun foam I'd already die cut, using Collall All Purpose glues then glued the image to the card front

- finally, added a sentiment from Clarity Stamp's 'Christmas & Celebrations' word sticker collection

So glad I finally managed to make a Nativity card for this challenge - as I previously said, it was originally meant to be made in time for Christmas Eve.

And today's prize is a Nellie's Choice 'Christmas Silhouette' stamp, kindly sent all the way from Oz by the lovely Shaz in Oz, a Spellbinder's 'Wonky Rectangles' set of nesting dies plus a pack of Clarity Stamp's 'Christmas & Celebrations' word stickers. Half the stickers are black on white and half are white on black - plus only half of the total number of stickers are Christmas 'specific' - the rest are a lovely mixture of general ones.

At the end of all of the celebrations I'll do a massive draw session for all the prizes using the one Mr Linky - which is on the main snippets post HERE along with details of exactly how to join in - so you do need to have entered one snippets make over on that post during this fortnight to be in with a chance :) Maximum of one entry please - to keep things fair for those who may not have time to craft. Mr Linky closes at 11am on Saturday 4th January so you do need to have added a snippets make by then to be eligible for the draw.

Just leave a comment on this post if you would like the chance to win today's prize.

The gammon/ham in Coca Cola got cooked - with help from Len to turn it over in the huge stockpot I was simmering it in. Yummy as usual!

Still struggling here with the shoulder, but each day I find I can lift my arm easily over my head - and more to the point hold it there as well. Showering and hair washing is almost back to normal, albeit not pain free, compared to a week ago .......... when even using a Faith deodorant stick was like a contortionist going through their routine!

Love from Parsnip, Dudley and of course me,

  1. What an exquisite card Di - and so glad to hear you are recovering and that the shoulder is not only more functional but also less painful.
Count me in for the draw please.

  2. You're so kind to hail me out, I'm sorry it took a while, but I entered a card earlier today. So glad to hear that your shoulder is healing! I really love stamps that reference the birth of Christ, and yours is a beauty. Yes, please, for today's prize.

  3. Your card is so beautiful, Di! Thank you for another wonderful giveaway - and to Shaz as well! I'm a Yes, Please! I'm happy to read that your shoulder has been improving each day. Sorry about all the rain you're getting - we've had beautiful weather here, great for driving to visit friends and family.

  4. Glad to hear your shoulder is improving. I've got one that gives me trouble off & on--not fun! Your card is really gorgeous, Di! This year I really do have to use my AIs & sparkle cardstock still unopened. I should say no to the prize, but I don't have a stamp like this, so I'm going to say yes--please include me in the draw. Hope you get a break from the rain soon. We had a beautiful day today, but showers are coming back. Fritz actually took a short sunbath on the deck wearing his fleece coat. Looked a lot warmer than it was!

  5. Great tips Di, about the inks, and embossing the frame, another one I keep forgetting! Weather has been dismal here too, and so dark! Hope the sun shines and your shoulder continues to improve. Yes please for the draw xxx

  6. So glad you are recovering, and also glad I can comment agian. I somehow got logged out of my account and kept being told my password was wrong, but I seem to be back in now so I'll try to catch up.
This card is really beautiful, I remember when you made those gorgeous backgrounds and this one is perfect for the image. It's a yes please from me

  7. Thanks, but I will pass on this one. Thanks for the recipe link too

  8. Beautiful card - a 'yes' please from me. So pleased to hear the shoulder is improving day by day.

  9. A beautiful, elegant card Di, I love the simplicity of the layout. Thanks for the reminder of using a ball tool for embossing around the edge of the die, something I always forget. I'll be a Yes Please for Prize F.

We had a lot of rain in Devon over the festive period, including driving through a very heavy cloudburst for miles on the way down to my niece's, where we could hardly see the road. At least it wasn't driving through snow!

Sorry to hear you're still struggling with your shoulder, but glad it's beginning to improve. xx

  10. Beautiful card, Di, lovely inked background. Glad to here your shoulder is improving. Not so good about the weather. Was planning a blow the cobwebs away walk today but it's pouring. Sigh. Hugs to you all xxx

  11. SUPER card and inkiness, delighted to hear you are feeling a little better AND that the gammon rocked! Must try it someday!

    Happy New Year to you

  12. A very elegant looking card Di with a lovely background. I'd never thought of embossing in the frame with a tool, I usually put it through the machine again with the embossing mat so thank you for that tip. I would like to be a YES please for this one please. I'm glad to hear your shoulder is improving albeit slowly x

  13. Lovely card Di - and that sparkle stuff is wonderful (just used a piece of the stash you sent me - and I LOVE it!)
Another great prize (have you had an extension built to keep all this stash????)
    and yes please.
    Hugs to you all. xx

  14. Hi Di! A touch of cabin fever here too, but as it is dry I am going to drag everybody out for a walk. Sorry your shoulder is still painful. That is a lovely card - the background you have made is stunning. Yes please to prize and yes too, to ham in coke. Yum!!! Hugs, April xxx

  15. I'm finally caught up with the playground posts and I'm so glad to know your shoulder is feeling somewhat better! I've been telling my hubby I need to get hold of a good ham bone to make some good bean soup and your ham cooked in Coca Cola makes me yearn for that soup even more! I love leftovers cooked together! Your card is a shimmering beauty and I love that it's done on that great wonky die to make it stand out even more! Yes please to prize F! What a great lot of prizes you're offering once again. I simply can't resist :) Take care and enjoy the day!

  16. Gorgeous card Di! So pleased you are feeling better each day.
    Janice x

  17. Such a gorgeous card! I love the alcohol ink background. I am so glad your shoulder is getting easier. 'Yes please ' for the draw, thank you! Take care and hugs my friend xxx

  18. Good Morning - It is a beautiful day here in Michigan [no snow] and yesterday was a summer Christmas here - we traveled down to the son's home to have our traditional Waffles with Real MAPLE syrup and Butter - eggs, sausage and bacon breakfast - and then did our round of gift exchanged and had fun the rest of the night - this is a very beautiful card - I love love that background image and the wonky die cut - how precious of Shaz to provide a lovely gift! I am definitely saying YES to this lovely prize! Whoot Whoot - thank you so much for this daily visit and your stories - I have not done archery in a very long time. Hope all goes well today and this week and your shoulder gets completly mended - Woof Woof hi to Dudley

  19. Beautiful card Di, LOVE the colours on your TH sparkle card - perfect with the silhoutte image and the wonky square is super. How generous of Shaz to send the stamp. Fabulous prize but I'm a 'no thanks'
Glad to hear the shoulder is on the mend, oh and you did have me confused for a minute as I thought you meant Len shoots the arrow from the doorway! I know, my senior moments are coming thick and fast! xx

  20. What a perfect card this is, Di! So beautiful! I finally bought some alcohol inks to play with because I won the alcohol lift ink pad. I hope I can achieve something this pretty. ;-) No thanks for the prize as I have the wonky stitched dies - I would feel bad taking them away from someone who wants them - they're fabulous!!

  21. Love the alcoholic sparkly card Di. Glad the arm is better and the food delicious. It's gone all cold and frosty here but at least we had a bit of sun today. Only an hour or so cos at the moment the sun is coming out from behind one mountain then nipping back behind the next one. Keep warm and dry and yes please to be included in the draw for this lovely prize. Hugz

  22. A fabulous card Di and I would love a chance to win the prize, please.

I'm glad to hear your shoulder is improving.

    Kath x

  23. What I love is that all your cards are so different and use lots of different techniques! Using a ball ended tool to create a frame effect while in the die is a new one on me so thanks for the tip :) So pleased your shoulder is on the mend. I have one member of the family who gets a bit antsy if he's cooped up for too long so can relate to Len's cabin fever; the rest of us are proper hibernators which just makes him worse!

I'm not going to enter today's draw, thank you :)

  25. I used Versafine on my sample over dye ink back ground Di. It looks great.. no thanks of course as have one too!! Love it, made lots of cards with it... some this week.
Wish I lived their to come make some samples.
Will instead pray much for healing. If you can get some homeopathic pillules of Arnica at health food shop I bought it over there, put three of tiny pillules under tingue, dissolve one at a time when pain comes on up to three or or so dises as required. That and arnica cream massaged in work brilliantly for soft tussue injury.
Thanks for sharing, and may God bless you.
    Hugs, Shaz in Oz.x

  26. Forgot to say YES please for prize F, :D so deleted my comment and pasted below ... I surely will enter later with my snippets card :)

Wow!! Such lovely and interesting card! The shining paper you inked looks delightful with the beautiful Nativity stamp!!! And that wonky shape is just amazing, your special touch with the ball ended embossing tool around the die works so well!!!! Thanks for remember me this possibility, I always forget a lot of techniques even if quick and easy as this one.
I'm happy to hear that your shoulder is less painful and your life seems going to "normal" !!
Big hugs, make some cuddles to Dudley!

  27. Love the sheen on this card Di...a lovely scene. yes please to the draw.xx

  28. Love the look of the alcohol inks on the sparkle card. And it's very effective with the particular stamp you used.
So happy to hear you're feeling better!
    Yes, please for this prize.

  29. Your card is Gorgeous! Yes, please. I'd love Prize F. I too thank you for the idea for using the ball end of a stylus. I hadn't know that. Good news you are healing and have less pain!!

  30. So glad things are getting better with your shoulder! I LOVE the shimmer on this card! YES, PLEASE to the prize!

  31. Hi Di, may I please change to a 'yes, please' for the prize? I read which dies they are in error and I do not have them after all. My mind loves to play tricks on me, how 'bout yours?! LOL

  32. Gorgeous Christmas card! Yes please!

  33. So beautiful Di no to the prize good luck to all who enter xx

  34. Hello, Di.....
I am in love with your beautiful shimmering card. What a lovely stamped image. I was wondering what ink you had used, as I guessed that some would not want to dry easily on that gorgeous background. I wonder if heat-embossing would ruin the pretty sparkle? I love the tip of using a ball-tip stylus for embossing. I need to remember to do that...such an easy way to elegantly frame an image. Yes, please, to this wonderful prize!!

I am glad to hear that there is improvement in your shoulder. Be careful with it. Shoulder injuries can be so annoyingly persistent. I still have some trouble washing my hair since I fell last May. After the acute part of my traumatic shoulder injury healed, I found gentle, but diligent, stretching helped increase my mobility and range of motion.

  35. So adorable, Di!! Love your shimmering paper and amazing image.
    Yes for the prize, please.
    Valerija xx

  36. I absolutely love everything about this card! And need to remember your trick of running a ball ended embossing tool around my cards or images to create the 'frame effect'. I hardly ever use my Scor Pal... so this is an excellent idea. (I'd also love to be in the draw for this prize. And I'd CASE your card as it is so very lovely!)

  37. Oooh this is beautiful Di and your background is gorgeous! Yes please to be in your draw x
Glad to hear your shoulder is improving. I feel your pain at getting your deodorant on - when I hurt mine it was doing the whole bra thing that was one of the biggest challenges!

  38. This is gorgeous!!!! I'm happy to see that your shoulder is improving...just take care!!! Please include me in the draw for this lovely prize :)
    Susan Sudbury

  39. I know Nellies stamps and have got some, except this one. Which is beautiful I love the silhouette, so I say yes today!
    Lia xx

  41. You mede so adorable card, Di!! can resist this prize, not me, so yes please to be in your draw :-)
    Hugs, Majda
