Winter Wonderland Challenge - reindeer

The latest challenge over at Winter Wonderland is 'No sentiment'. So I looked for an image that was really just for Christmas, and also an opportunity to try out some new WOW Embossing Powders. I came up with two cards:

I used:

- A6 white card blanks

- SU's 'Rich Razzleberry' card stock, embossed using SU's 'Square Lattice' folder

- stamps from the Stampendous 'Reindeer Swirls' set, embossed with gold and silver WOW EP, respectively. I added a little black mark for each eye :)

- MFT's 'Rounded Banner' dies to die cut the images

- Josy Rose star shaped nail heads

Tip for today. I used a clear VersaMark embossing pad to stamp the images. You have to add the 'antlers' separately (the set comes with a few choices of swirly antlers but you'd have a gap if you tried to do both the deer and the antlers at once - ask me how I know this, sigh), but it was nigh on impossible to see where to stamp them in the right position prior to embossing when the image was lying flat. So, after stamping the reindeer, I held each image at an angle so the light would catch the stamped deer outline and then just made a little pencil mark where I wanted the antlers to go. The embossing powder covered that little secret up :) I suppose I could have done the powder/heating in two stages - or used a pale pink embossing pad that I keep forgetting about, only thought of that afterwards. Hindsight sure is 20/20 vision here.

Crumbs, it's May already - and am still on target with 12 Christmas cards a month.

Wowers! Love each one of these and that WOW metallic is some pretty stuff. You picked a wonderful image to show it off too. Like this slender reindeer with his pretty antlers a lot. Thanks for the tips with the antlers too. I forget about those colored embossed pads (just like I do the wax paper til I mess up with a die). This is also one of my fav SU EF, and that razzleberry was so rich looking against the metallic powders. Love this die too. Hmmm...don't have that one. Been buying too many of the new S/Binders. Maybe later on the arch..but it surely is pretty. TFS & Hugs

Hi Di,
love the combination of the texture and sparkle - fabulous!!

I did have a think about your gap in between deer and antlers - maybe you could use a VersaMark embossing pen to join the gap?
Just a thought!

Both of these are so elegant with the metallic embossing and Razzleberry backgrounds! The little stars make them even more special!
