Walking down Memory Lane

When I bought some Kanban toppers a while back now, whoosh - they took me back down Memory Lane:
I used:

- 6" x 6" square white card blank

- SU's 'Pool Party' card stock

- patterned paper - a magazine freebie ages ago

- topper is Kanban, from their 'Posing Portraits - Retro' sheet

- SU's 'Pool Party' snippet, embossed with one of the two folders in Sizzix's 'Sewing and Measuring Tape' set, backed with a snippet of cream paper

- the sentiment is by Maya Road, from their 'Spool Sentiments' set, stamped with Memento 'Tuxedo Black' ink pad onto a snippet of SU's 'Pool Party' and die cut with a circular die. It was then popped onto a punched circle (using SU's 1 and 3/8ths inch punch). I had so little cream card/paper that was close enough to the topper background that I'd punched the circle from the centre of the strip I used behind the 'measuring tape' - bit of forward planning for a change :)

Waaaaay back in the dark ages, I made quite a few dresses like this one and I used to wear my hair just like this in my late teens, although those hairbands did give you a thumping headache at times. The things we suffered for fashion eh? :(

  1. I think I made a few dresses using that pattern as well, Di. You did a wonderful job carrying the sewing theme throughout.

  2. Hello Di,

Love the retro look - and love everything about this card! Do you know that Simplicity sells "retro" patterns? Guess there's a huge market for it. Oh, and I'm trying to grow out my hair so I'm sometimes wearing headbands and they pinch me behind my ears.

    Always nice to come visiting.

    Hugs,
    Kay

  8. It's a shame Kanban are no longer in business as they made great paper products and their stamps were good too. I love the pastel colours and I too remember hair bands and how uncomfortable they became when worn for more than about ten minutes! Sorry I didn't get to enter the challenge last week but seem to have been stretched in all directions lately. I have got my act together this week though but hate it when I don't get to play at my favourite place. x

  9. Oh my, Di, this is a real hark back to our glory days. I wore that style of dress too - with white boots! Never one in that lovely duck egg shade though - lovely papers, and I like the ruler embossed card too. What can I say, those were the days my friend ... :) Hugs, Elizabeth xx

  10. Loved this one. I had dresses like that, and I wish that style would come back! Designers just don't make pretty clothes for ladies any more. Loved the look of the 50's (think Audrey H & Doris D fashions in the movies). The soft blue was delightful & loved the button paper with the tape measure embossing trim. Also a nice touch to have the zigzag binding around the photo. Now this one takes me back!!! TFS & Hugs

  11. Great card Di. I wish that style would return, maybe with short sleeves. Everything now is too long, too short or too sleeveless for my liking!

  12. Before i gave in to the curl I wore my hair like that for many, many years. 30 mins each day to get it straight though finally did me in and I embraced my natural curly hair!! Thank you for the anniversary wishes, looking forward to a nice sandy beach!

    Hugs

  15. Gorgeous card Di, love the colour and the image, mmm the dress style is familiar but couldn't wear it now as it has no sleeves!
Just found out the other day that Kanban has started trading again and only 10 minutes away from me.
Sorry missed commenting and joining in the playground, it was so difficult to comment on the stupid i-pad.

  21. Yep. Still got the patterns and even some lengths of material not made up yet! Those were the days. You only went and bought your shoes and matching handbags from the shops. One of these days Miss I'm gonna come right on over and have a rootles through your coloured card. You must have every colour made by man and SU!!
Great card. I have this topper sheet too. Hugs Mrs A.
