Pixie's Snippets Playground - Week 171

Happy Easter everyone! I hope that, however you're spending the weekend, it's going well.

Let's dive straight in, and then you can get back to scoffing those Easter eggs :) This is my snippets card:
I used:

- A6 white card blank

- a snippet of buff coloured card, just glued onto the card blank front

- a slightly larger snippet of dark brown card, firstly with the oval position calculated (tell you why in a minute) and then die cut with a Spellbinders oval die

- next, I ran the piece of card, with the aperture already cut out, through the Cuttlebug using the Sizzix Tim Holtz 'Woodgrain' die. 'Cos of the earlier calculation before cutting out the oval, I managed to cut out the big 'knot' in the bark of the tree as planned:)

- layered the embossed piece of card on top of the buff coloured card, using thin sticky pads for dimension and added a few 'squiggles' to the inside of the aperture with a light Whispers pen just so it didn't look too perfect

- then added some owls, foliage etc, from the Hobby Art 'Owls' clear stamp set - love this set! They were stamped in Memento 'Tuxedo Black' and coloured using Whispers markers before being fussy cut and stuck on with Glossy Accents/thin sticky pads

Onto this week's picks, as always so difficult to choose. Some stunning entries again this week - you truly are pushing the boundaries with those snippets girls:

As it's Easter, although this card was made by Liz for a Birthday, I thought we should begin with this adorable bunny! And, here's the inside of the card:
What a great design - tee, hee :)!

I totally love this card, made by Kath. What a fabulous stamp and such lovely use of the patterned snippets too. See how beautifully the top right paper echoes the design and colouring of the gorgeous Woodware stamp - I do notice these things :)

Sigh, I loved this card so much that of course I whipped onto Google and found a local stockist so we now have one waiting in the toy box for a future draw - ha, and one for me of course!! Thanks for that Kath - bread and jam agaaaaaaaaaain here :)

I just couldn't leave this really beautiful card out - made by Anne F. Wonderful die cut honeycomb, leaves and such a pretty framed image  - and how clever to also do some sponging by using the honeycomb as a stencil!

More stenciling, this time from Cornelia. I promise you, there was a really sharp intake of breath here when I spotted this beauty! Just stunning as always!

What did I say, this week has been totally amazing in the Playground! Greta skipped in with this really divine card - absolutely loads of work and tons of dimension. I love it!

And we had one new playmate join us this week - yay:
This darling card was made by Sam (Whispers) - isn't it just adorable?! Beautiful scene with the hedgie - and just look at the detail of adding the line down the middle of the road using bakers twine! Clever!

And it's time to pick the winner of last week's prize (the 'Congrats' die and the 'circles' stencil)

Well done Julie! This is a first win for you so can you please let me have your address and I'll post the prize off to you this week - di_wray@hotmail.com

I actually had this card, made by Julie, earmarked to show you - isn't it great?

Last week's prize was another of those where I truly wished I had several others up my sleeve as extra prizes, sigh :( Especially the stencil - which you can get (in the UK) here. They're closed for holidays until 13th April folks, so any orders won't be sent out until after that date.

You might have an inkling what the prize is for this coming week - as a change from dies and embossing folders, it's the Hobby Art 'Owls' stamp set, just like the one I used today:
The Snippets Challenge will run for one week and the Playground gates will close at 11am UK time on Saturday 11th April. The gates will open again at midnight UK time on the same day.

Maximum of three entries and please say 'Yes please' (or similar) in a comment if you wish to play and be a possible winner of the prize.

Mr Linky is below - do please let me know if you have any problems linking, it's easy for me to sort out so don't struggle on alone :)

Di and of course, Parsnip!

  13. I just LOVE your card Di, a fabulous scene. It reminded my straight away of one of my favourite children's stories, 'Owl Babies', about three little owls waiting in a tree for their mother to return. I guess I must be the teacher owl sitting in the tree looking after them. ;-)

Thanks for choosing my card to be one of your picks this week. Love the other picks. I remember seeing Kath's card earlier in the week and thinking how gorgeous it was. I was in a little craft shop yesterday and saw the lovely stamp she used, but couldn't work out why it looked familiar. I came home with my new purchase and when I saw this post today, there is was in your picks!

Well done to Julie on her win.

I'm a 'yes please' for the draw this week - who can resist those cute little owls?? xx

  47. Wonderful variety of pics this week and lots of great ideas.
    Just playing for fun.

  48. Ha! I was wondering which "hat" you would be wearing when you commented on today's card..... And there you are wearing both at once. The two hatted look suits you!
I should think the parcel tape trick would work on the Bug plates too. It didn't leave any sticky residue at all. I think the trick is to use the cheapest tape you can get. Mine came from a pound shop and sometimes when I use it on a package it worries me that it's not sticky enough to hold the parcel safely shut, but it was plenty sticky enough to clean the embossing mat

Just made it with minutes to spare, Di :) Love the owls and your card is delightful, I like the embossed wood effect and 'head teacher' owl instructing his class of baby owls :) It's a yes, please, to the owls - they are just too cute to say no! As usual the cards you've showcased are fabulous too. I'm not sure when I'll get back to the days of three entries in one week but I'll keep trying - otherwise the snippet mountain will never get any smaller. Hugs, Elizabeth xx
