I used:
- 5" x 7" white card blank, tent style
- snippets of white and patterned card - the patterned card came from some leftovers in the My Mind's Eye 'Quilting Bee' paper pad
- I punched eight white 1" squares, plus four 1" squares from each of the two patterned papers using SU's 1" square punch
- then, each patterned square was cut in half diagonally, and four of the white squares were also cut in half diagonally
- to assemble the patchwork I covered a piece of card with double sided sticky paper and just pieced the pattern together. There are loads of blogs showing ideas how to do 'faux patchwork' - here's one I found
- after assembling all the pieces I ran the piece through the Cuttlebug using the lovely Cuttlebug Anna Griffin embossing folder called 'Rosa' (a gift from the lovely Mo some time ago)
- then I layered it onto snippets of matt red mirri card and grey Core'dinations card before adding a 'flower' to the centre, using SU's 'Petite Petals' and 'Itty Bitty Round' punches
- the sentiment is from Winnie and Walter's 'The Big, the Bold and the Happy' stamp set, stamped using Memento 'Gray Flannel' and SU's 'Real Red' ink pads
Here's something I would do differently, I think. Although each square was punched with the same punch and the same thickness card stock( as even the patterned paper was nice and thick), I can see some teeny gaps in the patchwork - made more obvious by the fact it's red card stock behind! Next time I'll try using Collall All Purpose glue - sure it'll be messier and will also take longer, but the double sided sticky adhesive sheets are totally unforgiving if you're just a smidgen out when placing the pieces 'cos you have no room for manoeuvre :(
So, onto this week's picks and as I was out all day Saturday and have other stuff to catch up on today (am typing this on Sunday), I've whittled the picks down to just five. I always say I'll just pick three but it's just too difficult:
We have four new playmates to welcome to the Playground:
Hope you all come back to play regularly girls!
And now for the draw for the ever-so-longed for die from this last week - the Memory Box 'Piestra Tile'. And the winner is:
Gosh, we had 90 entries this past week, that die sure was popular as 32 of you were keen to win it!
Onto this coming week's prize now, thanks to Viv who sent along goodies for the toy box (as did Eve) - thank you girls! These stamps came from Viv:
It's two adorable Joanna Sheen/Faye Whittaker 'All Our Yesterdays' stamp sets. One is called 'Dolphin' and the other one is 'Happy Birthday'. Both sets make up one prize. They do remind me of the Playground :)
The Snippets Challenge will run for one week and the Playground gates will close at 11am UK time on Saturday 7th February. The gates will open again at
midnight UK time on the same day.
Maximum of three entries and please say 'Yes please' (or similar) in a comment if you wish to play and be a possible winner of the prize. As always, if you're only interested in one or other of the items making up the prize, just say so and if you win then I'll do a further draw for whatever it is you don't want. But, please do go for both if that's what you'd like of course.

Mr Linky is below - do please let me know if you have any problems linking, it's easy for me to sort out so don't struggle on alone :)
Di and of course, Parsnip!

Love your card, Di, a great way to use up all those snippets of patterned paper. It brought back memories of a wall display I did in school with five and six year olds many years ago. To understand tessellation, the children made a 6' x 3' patchwork quilt out of patterned wallpaper, using 12" traditional patchwork blocks.
ReplyDeleteGreat picks again - so many to choose from! Congratulations to Lynn on her win. It's a fabulous die to use. I'm just playing for fun this week. xx
I'm so excited I can hardly think!!!! WOW! Can't wait to play with that die now! This is such a wonderful challenge Di and everyone over here is so warm and friendly. Will email in a minute or two.
ReplyDeleteGreat picks and some gorgeous cards to showcase! I love yours too Di. That just makes me want to curl up in a nice cozy quilt! However, it's just not cold enough today. Got up to 79 here and I thought I was going to have to drag out the short shorts! LOL!

Fab picks as always. Love your patchwork card-try rubbing Pritt stick or similar over the double sided stuff - it gives it a bit of wiggle room. Works on foam pads too!
ReplyDeleteHi Miss Di and the lovely Parsnip.
ReplyDeleteYes please to the prize if I am lucky.
what a very super snippets creation.
The work involved in this delightful creation must have been very time consuming.
Congrats to the winner, and what very super picks of the week.
Lots of crafty love. Jenny L.

Hi Di I have often wanted to make this type of card, yours is amazing. Thank you for all the tips as well. It was lovely seeing my card selected. Yes please to the prize you can never have enough stamps. Have a great week. Hugs Jackie
ReplyDeleteI love these "quilt" type cards and yours is stunning Di! Yes, maneuver time when doing these kinds of cards, but yours still looks fabulous as I'm not seeing any red showing through. lol Love that embossing folder too and I love the papers you picked for your "quilt". Oh my I am loving your shout outs and some I even know! Love that butterfly made from brads-how impressive is that?! And I nearly shouted the roof off when I saw that Lynn had won! Oh my goodness, but I love her cards, she is a hoot for sure! Now I will have to see if I can get something made with my snippets and come to play this week. Hugs, Brenda
ReplyDeleteI love your faux patchwork Di and a great tip about the Collall glue. I use the photo glue nearly all the time as if you are a messy crafter like me it will rub off the surface. Congratulations to Lynn and some great picks too, and thanks to Viv for providing this weeks pretty vintage feel stamps. x
ReplyDeleteI'm loving your quilt card Di, and I love using snippets to make those cozy quilts! The spotlighted cards were amazing this week with such crafting genius!! Lots of lovely picks as usual . . . off to visit and say Hi.
Will try and make it into the Playground this week.
Hugs, Sarn xxx
So many gorgeous cards in the spotlight, this week. Also winner, winner, chicken dinner for Lynn! I do believe that once my friend gets her backordered quilt die, and we have at all of the accumulated scraps, there will be lots of quilt cards. I do love you're card so. Thanks for my visit, and yes please this week.
ReplyDeleteA very beautiful card. Some wonderful spotlights this week Di, you must have had a terrible job making your final decisions. Lynn x

ReplyDeleteNo room to manoeuvre here either miss. Packed in like sardines. Having to clamber over furniture to get to me desk. The coving is up already! Peter the Painter does'nt ang around . Mind u he might have been spurred on by the two custard donuts wot accompanied his coffee!! Like the patchwork effect. I've joined a patchwork block a month swap for this yr. Last months block I sent out was very bright but my partner for this month has requested more genteel colours just like we like so I'm a happy bunnie if I can find the sewing machine and a spare socket to plug it in to. My sockets seem to have sudenly been overtaken with house phone, camera and mobile phone chargers from The Doc's office. hugs Me.
ReplyDeleteSuper card Miss Di, I really love the patchwork effect. Fabulous highlights this week and congrats Lynn on your super win. Methinks I shall have to hop off to the shops and treat myself to that die.
ReplyDeleteWill be back later to play but just for fun as I have the Faye Whittaker cd xx
Oh wow Di this is gorgeous the patchwork effect is stunning and the two colours used are well balanced to create such an adorable card ...l just love it! great showcase too and many congrats Lynn enjoy your prize xx
ReplyDeleteLove the patchwork effect and the fact that it is embossed really adds to it. I have a paper patchwork pattern (say that three times fast) stuck away somewhere that I should pull out 1-because I love patchwork and 2-SNIPPETS!

ReplyDeleteKarin

ReplyDeleteLove your quilted card Miss - very effective. Thanks for showcasing my card amongst all the other lovely makes. No thanks to this weeks prize x
ReplyDeleteYour card is lovely, Di. The patchwork does look fiddly but the end effect is worth it. Another great showcase this week and all so different. The prize for next week is super but, as usual and for the usual reasons, it's a no thanks from me. Have a lovely week. Hugs, Elizabeth xx

Love your patchwork Di. I agree, glue gives a bit wriggle time. I also did it once onto copy paper. I also noticed the other day how embossing stretches the card quite a bit, so that may have made your gaps.....not that I could hardly see them! If I were lucky enough, one of the sets would be enough. Thank You xxx
ReplyDeleteLove this patchwork creation Di! Another great showcase projects! Love that Butterfly creation totally stumped me and other are great choices too!
ReplyDeleteYes, count me in!
Beautiful patchwork. I will be linking my card tomorrow and YES PLEASE for the prize :) Thanks for the chance to win.
ReplyDeleteWhat a gorgeous selection of cards, yours, Di, and all the winners and newcomers. What an inspiration! Yes please for the gorgeous stamps.
ReplyDeleteJane
Great picks this week! And a big hello to the newbies...waving from the west coast of Canada...
ReplyDeleteGreat card too Di. Quilting is all the rage once again so it is always wonderful to see it on cards too. I have a pinterest board for sewing/quilted cards...I guess I had better start making some rather than just pinning them...teehee
A stunning card from yourself, miss Di and beautiful picks too. Yes please for the stamps too x
ReplyDeleteYour piecing on the quilt card looks perfect -- You have to be really precise to make it look so good.
ReplyDeleteYes please on the prize.
Here I am again. Just coming by for a quick push on the swings and to say hi! Lots of beauties in this gallery. Hope to come back and stay longer.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful paper piecing Miss!!! Huge congrats on your new DT position too - so happy and proud! Glorious picks, as always. Sorry to say I won't be around so much for the next couple of months but will be doing stuff now and again!
