I know, I shouldn't be sitting here at the laptop...........but, it's really been niggling at me that Word Verification is appearing on my blog when I don't have it enabled. Len just played with some of the laptop settings and it was STILL there.
But, I've just tried a little trick - and Word Verification immediately disappeared. I'm not saying it's a long term solution as Blogger are tinkering about a lot these days but here's what I did:
1. Went to my dashboard and selected 'Settings'.
2. Once that popped up I clicked on 'Posts and Comments'.
3. Under the heading 'Comments' there's a sub heading which says 'Comment location'.
4. I changed that to 'Embedded'. In effect that means it isn't a pop up or a new comment page - the comments just appear right after the blog post, and that seems to do the trick.
Teee, hee - I just bet someone now hops in to let me know that Word Verification is still there - but at least I can't see it. In fact I truly can't see it....... if I close my right eye :)

Thankyou sooooo much for this. It has been driving me mad since Sunday. There is no nasty word identification on this posting so looks like it has worked . Off to do the same. Ta ta hugs Mrs A.
ReplyDeletep.s. I wish they wouldn't tinker with what aant broke.
You're not wrong - it DOES get rid of it and I DID change mine earlier today too but .... someone said they didn't like to scroll down the embedded comments before they could make a comment ... me? I LIKE to read what others write too. Darnell pointed out that (in pop up format) the Captcha word verification CAN simply be ignored - compose your post and then simply hit publish - that works too!!! It's just a question of which you prefer ...... I know many DT members don't like to comment on blogs with Word verification enabled so - I leave the choice to you.
ReplyDeleteI'll still follow you and comment whichever you do!

I agree with Kathy, I like reading the other comments on the way to the box at the bottom. It's all too easy, when using the pop up form, to jump to the comment form and miss reading them.
ReplyDeleteNow, you, switch that computer off and go and rest your eyes!
Jane
I've done the embedded thing. But I prefer the pop up option . . . hey ho! xxx
ReplyDeleteIt hasn't asked me to do the word thing on this comment . . . so you look like your done! xxx
Now, if they could only fix the fact that I always have to COPY and PASTE in my comment twice in a lot of blogs I visit . . . I'd be a happy woman. Just had to do that for the comment above this one! x
ReplyDeleteMe again. Just changed mine and it worked. I always read the other comments otherwise how the heck do I know what's going on. The doc has just informed me it's Tuesday and heres me thinking it were Thursday. He is stuck in Suthend at the moment cos of the traffic hold ups on the M25 due to the bad accident earlier today.
ReplyDeleteI am glad to hear it wasn't just me. I had the same problem and this was the only way to get it to go away - I really don't care for the embedded comments but it beats the stupid word verification. hugs.
ReplyDeleteThank you for your detective work, Di! This fix was also mentioned on Facebook, but hopefully, they will remove the bugger soon because with "embedded" comes more spam and, of course, car pool tunnel as folks have to scroll, scroll, scroll. A lot of us are finding, however, that you can just ignore it and click publish like normal w/o typing the numbers or letters! So, that begs the question, "Just what was the point????" Always something!! Now you go rest and get better!! Hugs, Darnell
ReplyDeleteHow can you tell if it is on your blog?
ReplyDeleteHope you are improving, Di
Take time for your self
ReplyDeletethanks for note
hugs Tamara
I think you can go rest now because WV has gone. Off to check if Blogger has been interfering with mine now. Hugs, Elizabeth xx
ReplyDeleteWell, blow me, Di, WV was on my blog too! What on earth is going on??? I've followed your instructions to the letter and problem solved for now. Hugs, xx
ReplyDeleteWell it's certainly provoked some comments - you gotta wonder if those brainiacs at blogger bother to read any blogs!!!
ReplyDeleteRest those poor eyes and see you soon, matey
Kathyk
Also if you ignore it your comments still go through but thanks for that Di xx
ReplyDeleteBlogger works exactly the same as it did if you ignore the word verification box that appears! Just type your comment, bypass the word verification box and hit "publish" and your comment goes through as it always did. It seems so silly to add something that you don't need to use to navigate blogger comments, but I'm no rocket scientist - just a logical person :) Take care of that eye!!
ReplyDeleteThanks for your help with mine
ReplyDeleteHi DI, You're right. Best stay off that pc and rest your peepers! So far I'm not seeing any Spam with the embed, but I'm watching for it. Sounds like you tried the same things I did after you alerted me. (but I bet you worked faster!). I'm ignoring the WV on all the blogs I'm trying to catch up on tonight. Take care, big hugs & best to Len & Little P. too.
ReplyDeleteHi Di, thanks you so much for the help! Definitely fixes it. I agree, so does ignoring the WV and just hitting publish, but I think just seeing the WV puts a lot of people off leaving a comment, especially if they are on a tablet/ mobile with a small screen, and haven't found out you can ignore it. Word will spread though. I went back to the Blogger forum this morning and posted the fix, as there were a lot of others complaining about this. Funny how their (probably) overpaid techs couldn't put this solution forward! Hugs Hugs, Shaz xxxx
ReplyDeleteThanks Di !!!! It is so annoying of blogger. I'm off to change my settings. Hugs and many thanks.
ReplyDeleteThanks..that worked for me too..I think anyway!
ReplyDeleteYou lost me mate but I just go past it. I put my comment in and then press publish and as long as I am logged in then I seem to be ok!

Hi Di, thank you for your lovely comment, i went on blogger help, what a waste of time!!!!! my issue is my link gadget isn't working, put it on blogger and one fella responded telling me too alter the HTML I'm like what I'm not technical at all, he replied i was not helpful and basically was useless, so here i am still no blog working and no chance of it doing so, hugs Liz xx
ReplyDeleteI don't see any word verification thing here so I guess the fix worked. I have forced upon me a number verification thing, but you don't really have to add in the numbers. You can just hit publish and it works just fine. I'm sure that's a mistake, but I'll keep the embedded thing in mind in case I have to go that route.
