I made my snippets card for today a whole week ago - go me! I'd been making those little 'Parsnip' bear notelets to tuck in with Playground prizes and had
This is what I came up with using my own set of stamps. The squares look a bit 'on the wonk' but IRL they certainly look straight to me:
I used:
- 4" x 5.5" white card blank
- a snippet of SU's 'Primrose Petals' card, trimmed to size and then topped with a slightly smaller snippet of SU's 'Island Indigo' card stock. I'd already picked the inks I wanted to use and was just lucky to find matching snippets!
- a snippet of white card stock, embossed using a Taylored Expressions 'Twirls and Swirls' embossing folder, trimmed to size and then all three layers were added to the front of the card blank. Love this embossing folder, I just bet I originally spotted it on a playmate's blog!
- next stamped six images, plus a couple of words from the set, onto the snippets of white card, using stamps from the clear Inkadinkado 'Flourishes' set (pretty sure this was in a bargain bin in Hobby Lobby when we holidayed in New Mexico!) along with Memento dye ink pads in 'Teal Zeal' and 'Rhubarb Stalk'
- used a SU 1" square punch to punch out the six images
- punched out three 'Primrose Petals' and three 'Island Indigo' squares, using an EK Success 1.25" punch and then mounted the stamped squares onto them - alternating the ink used with the colour of the card
- stuck the squares onto the card front, using thin sticky pads. It's easiest to stick the four corner squares down first and then finally add the last two squares to the middle of the card. That allows you to centralise the top/bottoms of the last two squares so that all six look positioned correctly - to a blind man on a galloping horse :)
- final touch, a few small Mei Flower pearls here and there on three of the stamped squares
I'm probably telling you something you already know, but it was news to me until recently and it cleared up a question mark about clear stamps and certain ink pads. My first try at stamping these little inchies (whilst deciding on what colours to use) was done using Stampin' Up ink pads - the results were very blotchy and ended up in the waste bin - in fact I could see the ink 'pooling' on them as I inked up the stamps. I'm a huge fan of Stampin' Up and had previously been perplexed when this happened. But, what I'd read somewhere or other recently was that, if you use clear stamps, then you'll get crisp results if you use dye ink pads. So, I hunted out the box of Memento dye inks and they worked a treat.
Let's move onto the weekly picks now:
I'm sure a few of you will have spotted that the stamped image that Alice used is Lili of the Valley (LOTV). It's so sad to see that, after having a sale of their paper and art pads, LOTV no longer stock these items as they will be concentrating on their stamps and cross stitch kits and patterns. It strikes me as such a shame as they had a really good niche in the market there :(
Sigh, needless to say I just had to go and buy some of the beads (from Amazon UK). I thought it might be a good idea though to wait until I have a free morning - and Len is also out at archery :) Watch this space!
Gosh, the more entries, the harder it gets to do the weekly picks. I whittled them down to 11 this week - not without a lot of angst as every single entry was worthy of being a pick! As you know, I do try to share the love around from week to week - and I so hope that each pick shown here offers ideas and inspiration.
And we have two new playmates this week:
Welcome to the Playground girls! We do hope you'll come back to play with us again.
Now let's do the prize draw for last week - the two Joanne Sheen Signature dies - and our winner is:
And now for the next prize on offer - this coming week it's a couple of items connected to my snippets make:
The Snippets Challenge will run for one week and the Playground gates will close at 11am UK time on Saturday 30th January. The gates will open again at midnight UK time on the same day.
Maximum of three entries and please say in a comment if you wish to play and be a possible winner of the prize. If you only want to play for either the stamp set or the embossing folder then just say so in a comment - if your number comes up then I'll do a further draw for the remaining part of the prize. Please also link back to the Playground in your blog post to be eligible for the draw.
Mr Linky is below - please let me know if you have any problems linking, it's easy for me to sort out so don't struggle on alone :)
Have a good week - I think we may be in for a mild spell of weather. But who knows - certainly we're all thinking of anyone caught up in the dreadful USA snow storms.
And do remember that it's Rudolph Day over at ScrappyMo's from tomorrow until the end of the month!
Day by day am getting more ambitious, limping a LOT less and venturing further - ha, tomorrow it's a delayed routine dental appointment. After that, maybe I'll arrange to go and have my hair trimmed - am beginning to resemble 'Cousin It' in the Addams family.
Di and, of course, Parsnip!
x

Goodmorning Diane, you are showing a lot of gorgeous picks and they are all so different!
ReplyDeleteIf I would be a winner this week I would choose the stamps, because I like them!!
Lia xx
A great card Di, I love using inchies. I came across some old die-cuts lurking in the bottom of one of my snippets drawers and you've given me an idea to make them into one of my snippets cards this week. I'll see you soon and would love a chance of winning your prize, please.
ReplyDeleteKath x
Lovely make with your snippets this week and such a feast of picks too. Just playing for fun this week.
ReplyDeleteBet you don't REALLY resemble cousin IT!!! But thanx for sharing the pic, I used to love the Addams Family in B&W!
Just uploaded my entry

ReplyDeleteLOVELY picks Miss, as usual. Congrats also to Lisa on her win.
Loving your new look BTW!!!!! Bwaaahaaa haa haaaa!
Your inchie card with the pretty embossing behind is SUPER.

DeleteMy Card Attic
Oooo Miss! Thanks for putting me in the picks with the frilly bits and all the other winners - love them all. Your snippets make is nice too - they don't look wonky to me - but that might be cos I have a HEDAKE after drinking Sarn's hooch.... I think it was rocket fuel.
ReplyDeleteWill try and come back this week again cos I fink them there stamps are rather nice!!!. xxx
I really like this inchie style card and I'm sure it is the effect of the swirls in the background which gives the impression they might be 'wonky' - an optical illusion!! Great picks from last weeks mammoth entry too. May I say yes please to be considered for the draw this week - thanks.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the shout-out, Di! I had so much fun making that card. I love your inchie card - so many great details! And I am so very happy to hear that you have been healing and able to get about more - such happy news!
ReplyDeleteI love your little "squares". Thanks for the tip about SU inks. There are so many different ones out there and they all serve a purpose so I'm learning too. I'm glad you are getting around better now.
ReplyDeleteA lovely inchies card Di. I've never made one of these with stamps. Your colours are very pretty.
ReplyDeleteCongratulations to Lisa on her win. Again you have chosen some beautiful cards for your picks this week.
Yes please to your super prize. Barbxx
Oh my goodness--I'm on overload! So many wonderful cards & things to try! I've totally forgotten about inchie cards & I love them & your card, Di! So happy you're doing better & getting that hair cut will probably make you feel like a new woman--haha!
ReplyDeleteAnd I'll play just for the embossing folder, please.
DeleteWot a lot of stamping you have done and I can see the butterfly. Dun forget to do the linky poo!! hugs Mrs A.
ReplyDeleteI've got some inchie stamps, as yet unused. I really love your card, so I think i need to dig them out!
ReplyDeleteSuper picks - I think I might need to invest in some Perler beads. Looks like a fun thing to make your own enamel dots. I have some Hama beads, but it sounds like they land up more like mini doughnuts!
Just playing for fun this week. xx
Well after the crush last week I thought I should head over early before all the 'hooch' runs out. I see Parsnip is first up to the bar again!
ReplyDeleteLove your card Miss Di and it just shows how fabulous snippets can be made to look. More amazing picks this week too. Great prize but I'm being good and only playing for fun again xx
I wish play in the challenge AND be in the draw for both the prizes, thanks so much for the chance!
ReplyDeleteJust giggling here to see that Sarm and I are next to each other with the same image, bet that hasn't happened very often in the history of the Playground.
ReplyDeleteLovely snippets card from yourself, great colours and love the flourishes.
Fab picks too.
As for your hair looks like the meds have kicked in, more than they should have.
Have a great week.
Kath x
LOVE your inchie card! There are so many things I want to do, techniques and the like so I'll just add inchies to my loooong list now. Great picks as always. The tutu on the elephant made me howl. Too much fun! I haven't cut up a full or even a half piece of cardstock in days. I'm so proud of myself for using up the snippets! I will play along for the fabulous cash and prizes of course. Whuzzat? No cash? Ah well...!
ReplyDeleteLove the design of your inchies over this wonderful swirl embossing. Thanks for the ink tip with the clear stamps. I've had this happen too, and didn't know why (figured it was just me!) The tiny pearls added such a nice little trim to the tiny designs, just perfect. Glad I didn't have YOUR job to pick the highlights for this week. Some lovely ones, and also some great entries. I'm with you & PJ, on the tutu card. Now I would NOT make that for me (bet you can guess why too! Hits too close to home. Oh well, ya gotta have a sense of humor about these things. At least she's well dressed! Way too cute!). TFS & Hugs. Glad you are feeling better, and Cuz'n Itt looks pretty cute too. At least the long hair would hide the bum!!! :-)
ReplyDeleteI love your pretty card this week Di and the swirly embossing folder is great with the stamped tiles and love the mix of colours too. I'm sorry I did't get to play last week but mean to do better. If I do get my act together this week can I please be entered just for the embossing folder. Lastly love all the picks and congratulations to Lisa. x
ReplyDeleteWhat a great selection of cards this week Di, so many ideas too! I have made the balloon card a few times now and it's been received well. I love your card, it's so pretty. I would love to play this week for the embossing folder please, it's gorgeous. Thank you for the chance.

ReplyDeleteLovely inchies. I don't think I have any inchies stamps myself. Would fancy trying something similar (no need to say I really like your card :) so YES please fo the prize.

Eemeli
Your inchie card is so sweet. I like all those little squares. Each one is a surprise in its own right!
ReplyDeleteLots of great picks in the challenge...We all appreciate the amazing work you do to chose these to spotlight and know it is a lot of work for you! So thinks very much from my heart!!!
Hi Di, Good to read your becoming more mobile let's hope it won't be long before your fully back to good health ....l just love your card and the snippets used for each of the squares and the embossed backing really is lovely and well done to those who you showcased they are stunning and congrats Lisa enjoy your win xx
ReplyDeleteTotally fab use of those snippets of white card. Love the way you've reversed the pink and the blue on each of the inchie's. The embossed sheet behind sets them all off a treat. Thankyou for fluttering by my inky challenge. Cor it an't half busy. hugs Mrs A.
ReplyDeleteHello Di
ReplyDeleteI love your super inchie card and top picks are fabulous.
So glad that you are beginning to get around a bit more now - don't overdo it please!!
I'm just skipping through the playground for fun this week thanks.
Hope you have a wonderful week.
Hugs Eve xx
What brilliant cards this week Miss. I wish I could remember the dye ink trick with clear stamps BEFORE I start my projects and not after the disappointment!!
ReplyDeleteLovely prize but I have some similar stamps so when I do join in it is for fun only!!
Hugs
xx
Hello Di, love your lovely snippets card - the embossed background is gorgeous ... I do love embossing folders but do count me out of the draw as I have a ton of folders waiting to be tried out, and that is not mentioning the little pile of unused stamps cluttering up my desk!!! What a lot of lovely cards you've showcased - so many good ideas to tuck away in the old grey cells. Hope the visit to the dentist was okay - glad to hear you are beginning to get out and about again. Take care. Hugs, Elizabeth (breathing better today) xx
ReplyDeletePS: Almost forgot to mention that I heard that if ink pooled on clear stamps it is because they have some sort of protective finish on them. This can be removed by either sticking sellotape over or by gently rubbing with an emery board.
your card and embossing are great!
ReplyDeleteyes for the prize, please.
have a great day,
tina
Wow, what a great stamp set to use on those snippets! Love your card Di, love the color combo too. I am in love with all your picks with week, wow, the talented!!! That first card with the elephant sure made me smile and laugh. That is always a good thing! Playing along again this week, can you stand it?!! Just playing for fun this week, thanks for having me again Di! Hugs, Brenda
ReplyDeletePlaying just for fun this week. Hugs Mrs A.
ReplyDeleteHi Di. I am in UK and struggling to do anything on my tablet, so I'll come back next week when I get back home and look properly. I love all your little inchies by the way, and would like the chance to win the prize. Lots of lovely picks too, especially the little kitty shaker card. Glad you are a little bit more mobile now. Kate x
ReplyDeleteI haven't done inchies for a long time and I, also, have some tiny stamps that would work well!! Love the beautiful colors on your inchie card, Di! Beautiful.
ReplyDeleteOh, my....FABULOUS picks this week. I have been seeing that gorgeous chickadee card and Kitty's awesome shaker on Top Picks all over blogland this past week. Well-deserved top spots for each of the cards you chose!!!
Yes, please, to the prizes this week. That stamp set, in particular, is just beautiful with all those lovely details on the flowers!
So glad you are feeling some better. Take it slow and easy! No need to do much springing until spring is actually here...and maybe not then, either! :)

ReplyDeleteDid you get your hair cut? That must have felt fabulous. Just one of the little things we take for granite when we're feeling well! I love your snippets card and I enjoyed seeing more of your cute critters, too, on your newest post. Your picks were amazing this week, Di! Since I'm not getting around as often as I used to, it's wonderful for me to have these highlights! Have a great week and continued improvement! Love and hugs, Darnell

Hi Miss Di, and the lovely Parsnip.
ReplyDeleteYes please if I'm lucky.
Wonderful picks of the week, and congrats to all of them especially the winner.
You must get a terrible headache trying to decide from such very fab entries.
Talking about headaches hair that long will give you one. LOL.
Sounds like you still have health probs so I am sending some virtual hugs to help I hope.
Wonderful use of snippets and a very lovely design too.
Thank you for the heads up on the inks thing.
I will bear that in mind as I too didn't know that.
Thank you also for all your hard work involved in this fab challenge.
So glad Parsnip can help sometimes.
Lots of crafty love. Jenny L.
Great pics as usual Di. Just playing for fun this week.
ReplyDeleteThanks for placing my Christmas card among your picks -- there are so many full of good ideas to borrow this week. Oh, if only all cards came together as easily as that gold and white one.

ReplyDeleteI just slipped another entry in, yes please for the prize
ReplyDeleteThanks so much for picking my card Di!
ReplyDeleteLove your 'inchies' card - so 'yes please' for the stamp set, but I'll pass on the embossing folder...I have a couple that are very similar to that one.
Helen x
Lovely inchie card and stupendous picks! Yes please to lovely prize. Hope you are feeling less like Cousin It! Xx
ReplyDeleteBy sheer chance I've used inchies on my dictionary project too. Love your project Di. Just playing for fun this week. Annie xxx
ReplyDeletePS I've lost loads of followers too.
Back with an entry. Since I have a similar stamp set (or maybe that exact one), I'd be interested only in the EF. Otherwise, I'll just play for fun.
ReplyDeletejust playing on the swings for fun this time, as I had such a lovely prize recently :) xxx
ReplyDeleteLove your make and wow to all the amazing selections. Thanks for letting me into the playground and yes to the lovely prizes if I'm lucky enough! Cara

to see the card I made with my embossing folders win!!
Thanks again!
Just made it Miss! xx
ReplyDeleteWow, it's very busy in the playground, I can hardly move. I just tripped over someones skipping rope. No, I wasn't under the influence but that is a good idea. I love your little swirly stamps on your card. Yes please to the prize, I can't resist tiny stamps.
ReplyDeleteHi, Di! Thanks for the invite to come to your playdate. I just linked up my tags, but this week, I'll just be playing for fun not for the prize. Thanks!
ReplyDeleteHi Di, just scraping in here so I'm just playing for fun! What a week! Hopefully my routine will be better once things settle at work for the term. Cousin It as one of my faves in the Addams Family lol! Cathy x
ReplyDeleteI've not read all through so someone else might have mentioned this but if you rub a fine file or emery board over the top of a polymer stamp it adds key and improves the performance with all inks.
ReplyDeleteThanks Zoe! I've tried that one too :)
DeleteDi xx
