Together always

My lovely friend, 'Auntie' Mary, died during the night on Saturday. I wrote on here a couple of times about her little adventures when we lived in Singapore - pickling an egg to try to get it into a bottle was one of them. Always full of fun with the most infectious giggle, it was so sad to hear that she had passed away. She died peacefully of heart failure and it wasn't totally unexpected, although still a shock.

The bigger shock was that her husband, quiet and so tolerant Ken - a lovely man and a perfect foil to the bubble and bounce of Mary, died unexpectedly on Wednesday afternoon. A gap of less than four days.

All sorts of things have gone through my mind, but the main one is that after 63 years of marriage and being a totally devoted couple - they are still together, wherever they might be.
I made two cards/notelets the same yesterday to send to Pete and Chris, their sons. Made with a heavy heart but also a feeling of peace that neither Mary or Ken has to live with the sadness and loneliness of being without the other - I hope the butterflies convey that.

  1. Hi Di

Oh what a sad week for you .. .. losing two special people in such a short space of time.

How awful for their Sons too.

    My condolences to everyone.

People who are very much in love quite often leave this life within days of each other don't they. As you say .. .. although sad to lose both so quickly it is a nice thought that neither is sad or alone.

A beautiful and very appropriate card.

    Love Jules xx

  13. Oo Di, I am so sorry to hear of your loss. I know they were both very special friends. I'm glad for them, together forever. When my Aunt Rose passed away my Uncle John said 'I can't live without her' and died two days later. Happens quite often. The cards for their sons are lovely. I am sure they will be much appreciated. Praying for comfort for you, her family and friends.
    Love & Hugs

  17. Oh my goodness, Di, how very sad. Their lives must have been so wonderful together, God saw it fit for them to be re-united. My Aunt Kate joined my Uncle Ollie within days of his passing. They too were life partners. As sad as it was for our family, we too found peace in knowing they were together. Most sincere sympathy to Pete and Chris. Di, your card is beautiful, I'm sure the boys will feel your love through your creations.

  24. Very sad Di, especially as this week my ex boss ( I left 8 weeks ago) lost his mum a week ago, who he had lived with all his life (59 years)he then passed away unexpectedly himself on Wednesday morning this week, so I have been called back in to help out, all very upsetting and strange, but life goes on I suppose, but its cos I have been so busy that I haven't blog hopped for a few days....sending hugs to you DI and it's a lovely card btw!! xxxx

  25. Di, your card is perfect. I love the symbolism of the 2 butterflies in flight. How sad for their children to lose both parents so closely, but hopefully it will comfort them to know that one parent is not left behind & lonely. They are still together, and happy on the journey they are taking. God has a plan, and He kept them together. Thanks for sharing the story and the wonderfully beautiful card.
