Pixie's Snippets Playground #342 - Prize C

Merry Christmas - hope you have a wonderful day! My card for today is actually Len's Christmas card, I managed to make it whilst he was out at archery last week - in a bit of a rush but I like the result anyhow:

I used:

- 5.5" x 4.25" white card blank, side opening

- a layer of copper coloured matt/satin finish mirri card as a frame, glued in place

- a snippet of dark blue pearlescent card, trimmed just an eighth of an inch smaller all round to go on top of the copper layer of card later on

- then I used the gorgeous Lawn Fawn 'Birch Trees' set of dies to cut three birch tree apertures in the blue layer of card, and also die cut three of the same trees from a snippet of white pearlescent card

- turned the blue layer over and stuck strips of normal sellotape down the trees, one at a time, flipping it over and carefully inlaying the white birch trees (had to be really careful as the fattest tree has a couple of teeny cutouts in the centre of the bark so I kept two little blue pieces of waste to add in afterwards

- once all three trees were stuck in place I glued the image panel onto the copper fronted card blank

- then die cut the deer using MFT's 'Deer Love' set of dies and Stick-It backed copper matt/satin mirri card

- stuck the antlers (first!) plus the deer in place and at least I had the basis of a card at that point! The little noses die cut separately so i also added those, using the same copper card

- dug around in my big box of adhesive backed gems and pearls and found some tiny gold gems which I added as the eyes

- then used a Signo white pen to add falling snow to the background

- final touch was a little red cardinal (from the 'Birch Trees' set) and a couple of tiny hearts (from the 'Deer Love' set), cut from a Stick-It backed snippet of red card

I'd already decided not to add a sentiment to the front of the card - it really speaks for itself. I kept the slushy stuff for inside :) I prefer the eyes to be black but the smallest gems I have are gold and to be perfectly honest I was in a bit of a 'hampered hurry' so didn't stop to colour them with a black Pro marker before setting in place. I was using one hand to pet Dudley and the other to craft with!

I first spotted this super reindeer set over at Emma T's blog when she came to play with us for the first time and shared this card:
LOVE the design and will certainly be CASE-ing it before too long! Especially as I rarely use my own (the same) wonderful circular background die!

I had a casualty though when making my card. The die for the incy wincy cardinal flew (literally!) out of my hand as I was taking the die cut out of the die. I could almost swear I heard it drop onto the floor but both Len and I have searched and used magnets in an effort to retrieve it - no luck as yet. I rootled right through the waste bin - watched longingly by Dudley who would have loved to have given a helping paw. Sigh, it'll no doubt turn up - and thankfully Dudley is wise enough not to chew or eat anything metal. Poor Len couldn't be told exactly what he was looking for either as it was his card! Basically the other option is that it plopped in amongst some of the piles of stuff on my desk - which will be cleared away after Christmas - so I do hold out some hope of finding it. Eventually.

And of course you want to know what today's prize is:
It's the MFT 'Deer Love' set of dies as well as the Lawn Fawn 'Birch Trees' set of dies - same as I used for my own card. The red cardinal is still firmly in place! If you win then I'd advise not detaching the cardinal unless you want to use the birch trees for inlaying of course - which means they had to be snipped apart.

At the end of all of the celebrations I'll do a massive draw session for all the prizes using the one Mr Linky - which is on the main snippets post HERE - so you do need to have entered one snippets make over on that post during this fortnight to be in with a chance :) Maximum of one entry please - to keep things fair for those who may not have time to craft. Mr Linky closes at 11am on Saturday 5th January so you do need to have added a snippets make by then to be eligible for the draw.

Just leave a comment on this post if you would like the chance to win today's prize. I won't be splitting it but do feel free to play and give part away if you win!

It's 9:30 pm on Christmas Eve and we're about to snuggle up with an old favourite film, 'Polar Express' on DVD ....... in bed. Everything is prepared for the big day, as far as it can be. Whew, all done within a gnat's whisker! The only issue is no white wine for a spritzer for me whilst cooking tomorrow - so it will just have to be a champagne spritzer I guess.

Ahem, little tinker Dudley learned a new trick earlier this evening - how to jump up onto a sofa on his own ................... then lie down and take possession! Len hasn't seen it happen yet - just that when he left the room and a still warm and vacant sofa, Dudley looked at me and am sure he winked before doing a couple of hops and then there he was up and all nicely settled! Not once, but twice for good measure ☺

Keep checking for more prizes!

Love from Di, Dudley and darling Parsnip of course!

  5. I lost one of my button dies - it actually rolled up into my Big Shot and still remains within it. I'm fearful of taking it apart and not being able to put it back together again, but at least I know where it is :) Sorry for the mishap, but your card is so much fun with those great whimsical reindeer! Love the antlers! It's going to be a big "yes" for prize C, thanks much. Merry Christmas too - I hope your day is just wonderful :)

  6. Yes please :)
It certainly does speak for itself, I love your card. I lost a tiny die once too (who hasn't I suspect), it went up in the air and did a slow motion plop right between the slot in my big shot. It rattled, I shook and shook and it did all of a sudden fall out! Hope you find it. Beware, he'll be up on your bed next! Happy Xmas xxx

  7. Merry Christmas to you too. Hope Parsnip is tucked up in bed waiting for Santa and it sounds like Dudley is settling in well. Just got back from having Christmas lunch overlooking the sea.
Love the fabulous card you made for Len and would love the chance to win this supoer prize xx

  8. Wow, if this is a card that you made in a rush I am really feeling inadequate!! This is so beautiful and those reindeer crack me up! Yes please, with a cherry on top, for this prize. I really do hope you find that bird die because one thing that really upsets me is having something missing from a set. Good idea to use a magnet to search for it..will have to remember that trick.
Dudley must be so adorable jumping up on the sofa by himself that it would be hard to ever scold him if he did it when he wasn't supposed to. Have a happy Christmas and wonderful new year!!

  9. It is definitely a 'yes please' for this one, both of these dies are on my 'wanted' list

  10. It's 7.40am and I'm the only one awake here, so time for a little blog visiting! Your card is fabulous, Di, the die cuts make a great scene. Hope you find your little cardinal die soon, it's surprising how far tiny dies bounce if you drop them. I'd love to win this prize, so I'll be a Yes Please. Hope you have a wonderful Christmas and sending a special hug to Dudley. xx

  11. Brilliant card and Len is sure to love it - great explanation too as always. I really have to say a 'yes please' to this one - so cute. Love hearing the updates about Dudley and his progress. Have a wonderful time.

PS - I so hope you find that elusive tiny die, very aggravating when they get themselves lost. Lost count of the times I've scrabbled through my waste bin and around the floor!!

  15. Merry Christmas Di. Isn't it terrible when those dies disappear!! I have misplaced my favourite Memory Box tree die. Luckily I had cut a load of trees, but the supply is running low so I really must try and relocate it. I invested in some small pedal bins so my rubbish and paper recycling aren't open to errant bits falling in them now. Plan A!!!! I love that card. Those deer are just adorable. Everything crossed that I get lucky as I have a small weakness for deer and would love to add these to my stash. Hugz

  26. Such a lovely card, Di. I've been eyeing those MFT dies, so yes please for the prize.
There's really no telling where your die has gone, is there? It could be anywhere. The same goes for small stamps. Once, I found a missing (tiny) stamp back in the living room upstairs, even though I had misplaced it in my craftroom downstairs. It probably got stuck on/to my shoe or something.

I have coveted this tree die for EVER - so yes please!

  32. Hope you had a lovely Christmas, Di. Now that Dudley's learned to get on the furniture, I assume there's no stopping him.
Great card. There's nothing funny about losing a die, but honestly, I think something goes missing almost every time I stamp, and as you say, it eventually shows back up.
I would definitely like to be in the draw for this one.

  33. Couldn't remember whether I'd commented on this or not as been a bit hectic these last 2 days. Both cards are so lovely, I would like to be a yes please for this. Once little boys get on the sofa, that's it you won't get them off. We have to have a special doggy blanket on ours x

  34. Great card! I love those fabulous birch trees! And I know first hand how frustrating it can be to lose just a little crafting item (for me, it is usually a small clear stamp) and have to be searching all over for it. Usually, it does turn up stuck to something else on my craft table. Hope the same happens to you. I would love the chance to win this one, thanks!

  35. A lovely card and I would love a chance to win the prize please. I hope the die turns up when you tidy the Christmas stuff.

  37. Yes please with a cherry on top for this adorable die set! I love the navy blue background with those white birches and the red birds. Those reindeer dies are just charming and would be fun all year round. I'll be watching your blog after Christmas to see if that pesky little bird die ever shows up!

  38. Oh if only you'd had a video going of that little scamp! They do enrich our lives so much with just little reasons to smile when you don't expect it. Len's card is wonderful, Di! I certainly couldn't have made it with 1 hand! So hope the little cardinal flies into view. I've lost a few little things--mostly tiny stamps. Decided I should stop trying to wipe off the ink & just stamp them until clean. Please include me in the drawing.

  39. Haha, just realized that, when I read through all the previous comments left on this post, I was influenced by my daughter's comment and added my own Yes with a cherry on top as well! Even my two granddaughters have picked up that saying when they really want something. I've been spending so much time here, helping out with the new baby that I haven't had much time to craft. So it's a lot of fun to see your beautiful samples and enter for so many fabulous prizes. Happy New Year to you, Len and Dudley!

  40. What a wonderful card Di - I know what you mean about searching and not finding - I have lost, 2x, part of a Happy Birthday set... one of which i used a lot. So frustrating!
Yes I would love to be included in the prize draw.
    Dudley sounds quite the character...
    Blessings

Good luck in finding that little die. It will drive you crazy for awhile and then turn up when you are least expecting it...says the voice of experience!! lol..
Yes, please, to this prize! I am working backwards in these posts and this is my favorite one of them all that I have seen so far!!! Thank you for the chance to win!
