Pixie's Snippets Playground - Week 263 and 264

Well, that's the first week of 2017 flown by already! And, we have another 'two week' challenge in the Snippets Playground this next fortnight.

Here's the/our snippets card for this week - and in fact it's not my card at all! It was made by Janice HERE and I loved it so much it was an instant choice as a weekly pick. I also wanted to offer what Janice used as a prize. I was also very cheeky and asked Janice if I could use her card to showcase the goodies - she kindly agreed and so here it is:
Isn't it fabulous?! A perfect example of CAS and also so elegant. To see what Janice used to make her card please be sure to hop over to her blog! I really couldn't think of a better card design to showcase our prize(s) this time round - big hint there!

Now for a peek at my picks from the past week:

Absolutely brilliant New Year card, made by Trina! And, for extra fun, the clock itself is on a 'wobble spring' - great idea! You can see it 'in action'on a video clip over at Trina's blog too :)

Isn't this a great get well card, made by Barb? And super paper piecing as well, a perfect way to use up little patterned snippets of paper!

Lesley brought this 18th Birthday card to share - and it's one of the cleverest spinner cards I've ever seen. You really should go and peek at the little video clip showing it in action - such fun!

Helen has been a busy little bee - she used loads of snippets making this calendar for her Mum. Such a great idea - and each month has a different Penny Black image as the focal point. The calendar blank came from Papermill Direct (link over on Helen's blog) - as well as a peek at each month. I am so hoping to make one or two later on this year for 2018!

It's really great to see Viv managing to find some free time to play. I absolutely love this card, so fresh and clean - makes me think of Summer!

What a brilliant card from Jane W, the toucan is absolutely splendid and the punched Monstera leaves are a wonderful foil! And I love how the colours in the 'frame' are such a great reflection of the colours in the toucan as well. And a perfect sentiment as well!

And here we have such a lovely card, made by Janis. So evocative of days spent on the beach, carefully making sandcastles and then waiting for the tide to come in and fill our carefully dug out moats :) Happy days! And the netting is so clever - Janis pinched some surgical gauze squares from hubby's vet supplies :)

I really love this beautiful floral card - made by April. Such soft and gentle colours and great use of snippets too. Certainly makes one think of Spring - which won't really be too far off - I hope!

As always, I could carry on with more picks - but time is extra-precious right now. Goodness know how I found time to write this post to be honest.

We had 54 Playmates playing along this last week - with two new little friends joining us:
What a fabulous card from Christine Alexander! So stylish and the inlaid pieces are gorgeous! I think there's a link with our Loll - doing my Miss Marple bit again :)

Love this card too, made by Anna of 'Karasiowa' - a beautiful vintage piece, using loads of snippets and so very tactile as well.

Hope you come back soon to play along with us :)

This coming week's prize is, as usual, linked to a snippets card - not mine, it's Janice's card:
Marianne-Design-Creatables-Die-Pump-Stiletto-Shoe-LR0291

Xcut 6 x 6" Embossing Folder - Wicker

It's the Marianne Design Creatables - Shoe die (LR0291) and the Docrafts - Xcut Embossing Folder - Wicker. Both items are on order (the embossing folder has just arrived here in fact!) so I had to 'borrow' these images for now! You get a better idea of the finished effect if you look at Janice's card (above) of course.

The toy box is actually looking a little bit empty right now after all the Christmas prizes have flown off - but in a lot of ways that's a good thing. Fresh start and all that - although I DO still have some wonderful prizes that have been donated, yet to give away, some have been here for a loooong time as well! After that I might move away from the 'showcase the prize idea' as this craft room can't take much more!  But my plan is to still offer prizes, although perhaps not every single week - but these are just vague ideas at the moment. To be honest it's come close to me locking the Playground gates for good more than once over the last 12 months - but in the absence of anyone wanting to totally take it over I'm soldiering on for as long as possible. I was advised that a DT (Design Team) is like 'herding cats' so really don't want to even think about going down that road. I have really appreciated the times that some of you have stepped in to take over the commenting and weekly picks for me so please never feel that your efforts didn't make a massive difference!

Prize draw time now and our winner of the Lil' Inker 'Filled Christmas Trees' stamp set and pair of matching dies is:

Well done Jane! I know you play along really regularly and am so pleased your number popped up! Can you please drop me an email with your address in and I'll post your prize off as soon as possible. My email address is on the right hand side bar.

And here's the confession - I'm going on 'teachers training' later this week so that was what all the panic and running round was after New Year. Right now I'm still scurrying round but feeling more in control having decided that some things will just have to 'slide'. In all the rush though I managed to overdo things with this ole back of mine so have been snuggled up to the heat pad for a couple of days. I think the heat pad will be coming with me!

So, the Snippets Challenge will run for two weeks this time and the Playground gates will close at 11am UK time on Saturday 21st January. The gates will open again at midnight UK time on the same day.

A maximum of ONE entry and please say in a comment if you wish to play and be a possible winner of this fortnight's prize. You might wish to play for one or other of the items and if so please say in your comment and if you win then I'd do a second draw for the other part of the prize. I think they work so well together though. Please also link back to the Playground in your blog post to be eligible for the draw.

Mr Linky is below - please let me know if you have any problems linking, it's easy for me to sort out so don't struggle on alone :)

Have a lovely week! I'll be watching and hopefully commenting from elsewhere. Love from Parsnip (poor baby, he'll be in charge of the Playground aka 'Home Alone' ) - and of course me,

  1. See Di, I am sticking with my New Years resolution :) - my date is behind - due to the time difference between the US and England - I hope you don't mind....Such an elegant shoe card! The embossing folder fits perfectly! Great showcase - as usual. This week I am just playing along for fun.

  3. What a lovely surprise that you picked my card to show ,in such esteemed company of all those fab picks, thank you so much. I really like that new year clock, but all the picks are fab, and I like the elegant shoe card. I'll just play for fun this time, good luck with the training, I can't believe you are managing that as well, no wonder some things have to slide! I'm sure we'll all appreciate whatever you can do to keep the gates open, life just wouldn't be the same. Please look after yourself, don't forget the heat pad xxx

  5. Oh what a bummer your back is acting up again--so sorry, Di! I don't know how you keep up The Playground, but am glad you aren't locking it up. Would it help to do 2 wk challenges all the time? I'd be glad to have a bit more time to get something made. Love Janice's elegant card & all the great picks! I'll play just for the embossing folder. Take care--hope the training goes well! PS--glad you like the card--I was thinking we both love pink, so that's why I chose that one.

  6. Beautiful card and I can surely see why you let Janice's card show off the prize!! Wow. Yes, please, to the prize this fortnight.
Thank you for choosing my card as one of your picks this week. I am honored for it to be among that line up of amazing creations.
Take care of yourself and have a good time at training.

  7. Di... I'm so sorry to hear that the Playground has caused you such grief at times... but I'm not surprised as you do so much and put so much time and effort into it - that's easy to see.
Maybe the Playground could take a proper break for a bit and you could put yourself first for a change? Or at least as Greta suggested change to bi weekly or even monthly?
I hate to think of you soldering on because you feel you have to... That actually makes me feel quite sad.

  8. How fun that you shared Janice's great card as it showcases the prizes perfectly! And I'm glad it gave you a bit of a break, Di, although writing up this weekly Snippets post with all the highlighted cards is VERY time-consuming in itself! We so appreciate all you do for this challenge, especially during those times when you have felt like carp! I hope you, Len, and the HP enjoy your time away and that you stay fit as a fiddle! And don't worry about the Playground ~ Hammy and I have booked a flight for two days from now to help keep the Parsnip company. I'm teaching Hammy "proper English" without a bit of pepper so's not to lead the poor lad astray! Please disregard any police dispatches that might popup in your feedster whilst you're on your hols! xxoo Darnell

  16. More great picks this week and another card for inspiration. I'm sure you know that what you do for the playground is very much appreciated but of course you must consider your own health and happiness as well so if the gates are opened fortnightly or even monthly so be it. Hope the 'training' goes well and that you don't have any more back problems while you are away - take care. Hugs.

I will pop a card on shortly but only playing for fun this time.

  17. I love Janice's card snippets card, so classy in black and white. Gorgeous picks too, especially love the spinner card - such a clever design. Congratulations to Jane on her win.

Sorry to hear you've overdone it and your back is playing up again, Di. Enjoy your 'teacher training' and remember to take it easy. However you decide to change the format of the Playground, has to be what's best for you. I just hope the Playground gates stay open, as it's a great place to hang out. xx

  18. What a lovely card from Jane and a super prize Di.Yes please to the chance. So many lovely picks too. Enjoy your teacher's training and look after that back. You know how I appreciate your hard work here but I do think you need to make it a pleasure not a chore for yourself. I am totally amazed how anyone runs weekly challenges...it must take so much time.I agree with the others..how about making them fortnightly. The other thing perhaps is to have some guest designers occasionally making something??? I also agree with Liz that whatever you do decide it needs to work for you. I love the playground here...it is fun, caring, creative and full of some of the friendliest crafters in blog land. Hugs xxx

  22. I love Janice's card using the pretty shoe and the basket weave embossed background, so elegant and pretty in black and white. Sorry to hear you have jiggered yourback a bit Di but hope you will be relaxing and enjoying a break over the next two weeks. I'm sure we all appreciate what you do to keep the playground going and you must make it work for you! Great picks this week and congratulations to Jane for winning this last week. 24. Thank you to both you and to Mr Random for showcasing my card and picking me as the winner. I hope you enjoy your "holiday" - well, OK it's work, but it's a break from the blog and all the troublemakers in the playground.
I've often wondered how you manage to do all this on your own, week in week out, I know how much work it is and with your back problems and your other recent health problems, I'm really amazed that you've managed to keep the gates open at all. But if they ever were to clang shut for the last time we'd all be heartbroken. I'm sure we'd all rather play along less often, and perhaps not for prizes unless somebody occasionally donated one, than let that happen.

  25. Lovely picks Di and I'd love a chance of winning the prize, please.

I hope you enjoy your teacher training and take care of yourself. I agree with other comments that it would be a shame if the playground gates closed. I notice that several challenges have moved to fortnightly instead of weekly which could mean less work for you or maybe you could have a playground prefect again some weeks to give you a break? Just a few thoughts!

  26. What a wonderful elegant card Janice has made and which showcases the prize wonderfully. Amazing picks and great inspiration (as always) and two fantastic cards from the new Playmates as well.

Miss Di you do an amazing job keeping the Playground up and running week after week with only Parsnip and the occasional Prefect to help out and I can well understand the temptation to lock those gates on occasion.... but like all the other Playmates I'd be so sad if that was to happen.

How about asking for volunteer GDTs to do a snippet make (unrelated to any prize you may offer) or have Mr Random Org pick a number for a GDT each challenge. I'm sure people would still play along if there were no prizes and fortnightly challenges may give you more breathing space....
But whatever you decide you must put yourself and your own health first. Take care and enjoy your 'teachers training' xx

    1. This is absolutely how my first thoughts are coming together Andrea! I've been jotting them down off and on here today. I truly don't want to disappoint people by closing the Playground altogether so you're likely to be stuck with me anyhow. You certainly do a really fantastic job and I for one do not know how you keep on top of it all.

I hope you have a great time at the Teacher's Training.
So very sorry about your back problems rearing their ugly heads again but hope the rest from the Playground will do it good.
Major decision for you regarding the future of the Playground, at the end of the day as some people have said, it hast to be what is best for you. I can not think of anyone who would have soldiered on for so long as you have, well maybe one person (not me as I do not have any back problems).

Fantastic picks this week as always, what a talented group of crafters there are.
Like others have said Di, maybe it's time for a change to the playground to suit you. You must put in so much time and effort each week, along with your generosity with the prizes.
Know that we will support whatever decision you make, you must look after no.1.
In the meantime, you enjoy your teacher training, rest, relax and enjoy!

  48. Hi Miss Di, a wonderful week last week with the fun of your 5th Anniversary of taking over the Playground, love to play along however often you open the gates, as Helen said above, it helps me to keep using up my scraps box (but I always seem to have more), hope the heat pad has eased your back a little and the 'teachers training' is of interest to you, (sometimes they can be so boring).

Just wondering if you have a volunteer guest designer create a snippets make whether if they had same set at home if it could be offered as a prize... we don't have many crafty stores down here and I have been given a couple of duplicate items, (still in the packaging) I could offer as a prize or prizes...

The Playground is one of the nicest and friendliest places in blog world to hang out in...

Wishing you and Len a Happy, safe and Healthy 2017 (and that cheeky little bear too)

We share an aversion to cutting into those lovely papers so always try to heap on the praise for taking the big step!

  66. What a fabulous card you chose to demonstrate the prize! I'm a total shoe girl, so any card with shoes is a good one in my eye. : ) But this one is fabulous and so is the texture on the background. Obviously, I'd like to play for the prize. : )
