Less is More - Week 238 - Sketch

Oh I do love this sketch over at this week's Less is More challenge:

It's crisp and clean - and you can flip or rotate it. BUT, dozy mare that I am, I didn't spot the fact there's a sentiment in the bottom right corner until the point at which I'd finished my card(s) and was writing this blog post, sigh :( Then again, quite a few entries haven't followed the sentiment placement and a few of the DT cards haven't followed that either - phew - so maybe it's just optional? Whatever, I'm still hopping over to play as I hate to miss LIM and I totally love this sketch!

This is what I initially made (two the same):
I used:

- 5" x 7" white card blank, tent style

- a slightly smaller white panel

- a cut down to size piece of BoBunny paper from the 'Blitzen' pad. Great to find a use for those papers with an image down in one corner, I can see this sketch being used again with similar paper designs

- a little strip of orange core-dinations card just to break up the junction between patterned and plain

- then stamped the sentiment using SU's 'Tangelo Twist' and a sentiment stamp from Woodware's Clear Magic stamp set - 'Christmas Bubble Tree'

And then whilst everything was out I flipped the sketch and made two more using a different paper from the same pad:

So that's four more for the box, yay!

  2. I think your designs are fabulous, Di, and your sediment placement is perfect for these cards! I always think of the sediment placement as just a suggestion on a sketch - but maybe I'm wrong! Hugs, Darnell

  3. Both cards are gorgeous - I can see this is a sketch that will become one of my go-to layouts for quick cards, especially now I've seen your tip about papers with an image in the corner. I tend to decoupage the image but that leaves me the rest of the sheet as snippets.
Sometimes sketch challenges bewilder me as people - even the DTs occasionally - stray so far from the sketch that I can't see where the original comes into it at all. To me, your cards clearly show at first glance that the sketch has been used.

  6. Two fab card designs and four more for the collection? I'd call that a result!

I made a Christmas card yesterday and, using the same design, made it in another colour this morning too - so I'm a bit of a roll myself!

    Happy day after Rudolph Day!

  7. Fab cards Di, I entered this week too as I really liked the sketch and just like you I didn't spot the sentiment in the bottom either, oh well lol. Hugs, Amanda x

  8. Beautiful Christmas cards, Di. Thanks for the tip about using patterned papers with a design in the corner. I'm sure I've got lots as I'm never sure how to use them on cards. I'll be looking at them in a new light now. xx

  9. Wonderful ideas with papers Di and like Liz will definitely get out papers and have a good look because on plainer patterns like these it works beautifully. x

  15. I'm keen on a sketch as well Di and I like both your interpretations of it, don't ask my why but the first works best for me, might be something to do with being right handed and the way my head ticks.....that's when it does of course !

  17. Gorgeous cards Di! Then sentiment may not be in the place the sketch shows, but it is in the right place on your cards...*grin*

  20. Lovely cards and what a great way to use up those papers which have corner designs. I love your first one as the sentiment curve sort of follows the elegance of the deer. I personally don't mind where the sentiment goes, and as some of the DT cards didn't follow it exactly I suppose it's perfectly fine (I'm obviously a goody-goody and don't want to risk being told off by Chrissie! lol)
    Thanks for sharing with us.

  22. You are cleverer than me! I wouldn't know where to start with such a simple sketch, but these are superb, and you are right that it lends itself to lots of papers and designs, xxx

  23. I have seen so many lovely cards made using this week's LIM sketch and your two are no exception. They're GREAT Di. I like that you changed the direction from one card to the other. FOUR more for the box too. Congrats.

  24. Fabulous cards, Di. The sketch is brilliant - it's one that can be interpreted so many ways. I like the way you have used those lovely papers ... as you say, sometimes it is really difficult to find a way of using pretty papers with images in the corner but you've done it here :) Hugs, Elizabeth xx

  25. I love that you stamped right on the pattern paper. The results are great and now I need to find some paper with a corner design and stamp on it. You are such an inspiration. Your Christmas card stash must be growing in leaps and bounds, good for you!

  26. Wow! These are gorgeous, Di! I love them. Every year I say I am not buying Christmas papers, but already I have bought one pack and am rather liking these too!

  28. 2 fantastic cards and brilliant takes on the sketch Di!
Great to see you ahead on those Christmas makes too! There's no beating you!
I realise I didn't stick to the sentiment in the right place so no worries on that score (fingers crossed tightly behind my back!) I'd made my card, photographed it and blogged it before realising! Bowing my head in shame this week! LOL!
Thanks so much for sharing and taking part.

  30. Really love both these clever cards. I'm liking this asymmetrical layout very much, it's so striking. The lovely additions you've chosen for each of your cards, makes it even more so. Well done! You've been a busy bee lately with some clever & pretty cards. TFS & Hugs
