And, it's time for a new fortnightly challenge in the Snippets Playground folks! As always, a huge thank you to everyone who came to play this past fortnight.
Let's get straight in - here's my snippets card for the coming fortnight:
- 6" x 6" white card blank
- a snippet of pinky/mauve Core-dinations card stock, trimmed slightly to a bit smaller than the card front
- a smaller snippet of powder blue card (sob, it's my last decent sized snippet of this gorgeous matt baby blue card)
- a piece of 200gsm white card stock - deliberately chosen as the die I was about to use is quite intricate and I've discovered that slightly lighter weight card is best for fiddly designs - backed with Stick-It self adhesive sheet as well as using a piece of waxed paper to ensure the card dropped out of the die easily. Talk about belt, braces and double knicker elastic!
- die cut the white 'frame' panel using the main die from the NBUS Polkadoodles 'Ribbon Gift Frame' set and removed the protective backing from the adhesive layer
- found a snippet of narrow 'Cadbury coloured' purple ribbon and threaded a piece through either side of the white die cut, wrapped it over and stuck it in place on the back of the panel
- then glued the white panel onto the blue one. Tip about centering this die cut - I drew very light pencil lines to mark the centre of the card, up and down - which made alignment a breeze.
- then glued the blue panel onto the pinky/mauve piece of card
- I now had a flat panel to work on for the stamping stage, with no exposed pieces of ribbon at the back
- fiddled around a lot working out where to place the stamps - from Altenew's 'Carousel' set. It's just a small set but so crisp and very pretty too
- then stamped the image and wording all in one go using the Misti and Memento 'Tuxedo Black' ink
- stuck the whole card front panel to the card blank
- I had intended to just use the silhouette outline but decided to add some colouring using Faber-Castell Prismacolour pencils and Sansodor blending fluid
- the final touch is a loopy bow, cut using a little snippet of the mauvy/pink card and another die from the same set as before
Looking at the stamp set again, I can just see it coloured in red and green, perhaps with a spot of gold, on a Christmas card - with a different sentiment of course! Just a thought.
And here's this fortnight's prize:
It's a Polkadoodles 'Ribbon Gift Frame' set of dies. There are five beautiful dies in the set - I had intended to use one or other of the corner dies as well but because I'd layered other card (and my card blanks are actually just under 6" x 6") there wasn't room - but there are some fabulous hand made cards on line which use the corners as well. And of course, all the elements in the set of dies can be mixed and matched how you wish. Plus, there's an Altenew 'Carousel' set of stamps - they're small but so detailed, the carousel looks lovely just left as a silhouette and they stamp perfectly as well. I will split the die and the stamps if you only wish to play for one or the other.
The Snippets Challenge will run for two weeks and the Playground gates will close at 11am UK time on Saturday 19th August. The gates will open again at midnight UK time on the same day.
It's a maximum of ONE entry and please say in a comment if you wish to play and be a possible winner of the prize. The prize is both items together as a single prize, unless you really do only want to try for a 'split' - in which case I'd do a further draw for the other item. Please also link back to the Playground in your blog post to be eligible for the draw.
Remember, if you link into the Playground and don't say clearly that you're wanting to be in the draw then you will be bypassed if your name comes out of Mr Linky. I'm sure you all know I ask for a positive 'yes' just in case you're playing only for fun. Thanks!
Mr Linky is below - please let me know if you have any problems linking, it's easy for me to sort out so don't struggle on alone :)
Be sure to call back next week to see the winner of last fortnight's prize (MFT's 'Stitched Cover-Up Companion - Diagonal die, plus the Clearly Besotted 'Aloha' stamp set) and my picks from the past two weeks.
We're beginning to run a bit low on Guest Designers, I have about five names left. So, if you would like to be a GD do please let me know - my email is on the RH side bar or even just leave something in a comment on this post. And for this reason we very likely won't have a GD next week as many of you seem to be busy and/or on holiday. I'll just have to persuade Parsnip to strip down to his shorts and pose for you instead :)
Love from Parsnip and of course from me. He's currently rootling around looking for sun lotion ready for spot of sun bathing so he has a 'golden glow' for his Playmate of the Week spot! Sigh, I despair at times - it's not gonna happen!
Love, love this card, Di! That is one stunningly beautiful die! The more I look at that stamp set, the more I like it! I do have plenty of crafting goodies, but can't help myself--I'll play for both prizes! I'd be glad to guest design, but my snippets are usually on the large size, so I'm not the best inspiration. Could wrack my brain & maybe come up with something better. You can keep me in mind if you get really desperate--the girls might prefer to see Parsnip in his shorts!
ReplyDeleteHa, ha - Parsnip in his shorts is so NOT a pretty sight! I've popped your name on the GD list - as well as the prize draw list BTW :) xx
DeleteSuper card, Di. Love the unusual decorative square die, so pretty, a perfect frame for the lovely stamp.
ReplyDeleteI'll be back later to play and will be a Yes Please for the prize this week please. xx
PS I've emailed you. x
This is pretty. I love that die set and will be playing for that. I'll be back with a card sometime soon. I know what you feel like when you use the last snippet of something you love. I did that with a piece of lace recently. Bring out the tissues. [Bunny]
ReplyDeleteHi Miss Di, a cute snippets card this fortnight, love the lacy frame, you did give me a giggle with the thought of a bare bears behind on show for all to see while he catches some sun... have a wonderful week... Megan
ReplyDeleteParsnip in shorts - what fun unless it rains like it did here yesterday (thunder too) his fur would be totally bedraggled. Back later with my card and it will be a 'yes please' for the prize even though I should stop adding to my 'stuff'. Didn't know that Polkadoodles were doing dies now how did I miss that.
ReplyDeleteI've been up since really silly o'clock - here is my card for this week
ReplyDeleteBeautiful card Di and what a lovely die that you framed the image with so soft in colours too! it's a little over cast here but the sun is trying to come out lovely day yesterday but hopefully the rain will stay away and l hope Parsnip finds the sun lotion take care xx
ReplyDeleteCan't wait for next week to see Parsnip strutting his stuff Playbear fashion.... just as long as he doesn't do the Full Monty! Bet he'll do a roaring trade behind the bike shed selling posters of himself.
ReplyDeleteLove your card with that fabulous die and stamps. Didn't know Polkadoodles did dies and yes to please to going in the hat just for them xx
Just popped back with my card and forgot to say that I'd be honoured to be a GD anytime xx
DeleteDaring to show my face after being the school truant, understand if I get detention Miss Di and will take my punishment.
ReplyDeleteI adore your carousel, was always my very favourite ride at the fair, my Dad always called it Jollity Farm, not sure where that name came from or if it was just a local name when the fair came to town, or village in my case.

Your card is a beauty Di and I love the soft colours. Great sentiments and what a pretty die set. As I was lucky winner last time I'm just playing for fun this time round. Barbxx
ReplyDeleteIt's a sweet and elegant card, love how you used that beautiful frame to center the carousel and the other die of the set for the "bow"!
ReplyDeletehugs
Cute carousel, Di, and that delicate frame die is marvelous! Love the bow and the CAS design. Hoping Parsnip finds his bit of sun. We have an overabundance of it here in California this summer, so I'd happily bottle and ship some to him if he needs it. I'm definitely going to be playing along to the prize this week, at least the die set part of it. :-D Also, I'd be happy to be a GD any time you need so put my name on the list.
ReplyDeleteWhat a sweet and fun card, including the process to create it. I'm still chuckling over the double knicker elastic LOL Playing just for fun this week, but thanks for another fun snippets challenge!

ReplyDeleteLoved your reply to my Mother Shipton comment BUT so very worried about Parsnip and, sorry made me giggle again. you trying to petrify him, poor little thing, but it was funny.
Absolutely bouncing down with rain as I type this, was also tempted to put the heating on again tonight, so fed up with this weather, my tomatoes will never ripen at this rate.
Have a good week Di.
