Friday Feast - Lambs Liver Stroganoff

Yikes, this is gonna look so much like last week's recipe, bit of meat and rice - but a few things have been going on here this week and I didn't get to make the 'bake me a cake' I wanted to :(
So, for offal lovers it's a delicious Liver Stroganoff and for offal haters - just run away right now:) Byee Kath :))

To be honest, liver is not the top of my 'last dinner before execution' meal list either - but, somehow, this does work really well. It's much more reliable than using even the best fillet steak - and a whole load cheaper too!

Lambs Liver Stroganoff

Serves 2 good helpings

1 large knob of butter
1 onion, peeled and finely chopped
450g lambs liver, cut into bite sized pieces
1 tbsp tomato puree
1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
Juice of 1 lemon
225-300g button mushrooms
salt and freshly ground black pepper
300ml sour cream

Melt butter in a pan, add onion and fry over gentle heat until soft.

Add the liver and fry for 5 minutes, stirring constantly.

Stir in the remaining ingredients, except the cream.

Cook for a further 5 minutes, stirring occasionally.

Remove from heat and stir in the cream, return pan to a low heat and warm through.

Taste and adjust seasoning and serve on a bed of rice.

I got this recipe from my friend and ex-work colleague, Joy, years ago and it's been a favourite ever since - once I worked out that the original had a typo of 4450g of liver in it!! :) She's as scatter brained as me and is currently hopping round on one leg having just had mahoosive surgery on the toes of one foot, mostly to correct arthritic problems. We spoke this morning and the conversation ranged from the problems of managing the loo, to her husband wanting to take her out for some fresh air in a wheelchair. We did have a good laugh when we decided that dark glasses and a big floppy hat would be the attire of the day...in the wheelchair, not on the loo!! :)

She 'played hookey' and whizzed round a few times to visit from the office after my 'Metal Mickey' hip op. a few years ago - talk about a couple of kids! So, my turn for revenge, ssshh, and the camera - I'm off to see her this coming week bearing books, lunch and hopefully a whole load of laughs. Err, and some dry spray hair freshener - OMG, showering to wash your hair sat on a garden plastic seat whilst keeping one leg out of the way of water and propped up on another garden seat can't be much fun. I don't dare even tell you about the 'good friends' conversation we had today about the loo acrobatics! Bless! That's reminded me of some of our escapades travelling round the UK on business - for Tuesday Tales though :)

Err, if you are bored Joy, and do peek in here as you sometimes do - get well soon chick and I'll be there to help to cause mayhem ASAP  xxx :)

  3. Morning Di, once again a recipe that looks tasty, but liver ... just not for me! The only liver I'll contemplate is chicken livers and DH hates those so it's a no,no :( Good to hear you are still enjoying the Pauper's Pie, did you ever find a ham shank to try out my grandson's Posh Macaroni? Again another Friday with no recipe from me ... I keep forgetting to take photos :( Right, off to look at Annie's ribbons :) Have a great day. Elizabeth x

  4. Just finished making Chicken livers over rice for DH! I am so thankful that my spouse loves livers as much as I do. The kids ate them and didn't complain when they lived at home but now they are out on their own they tell me they have always hated them! How can that happen?

  10. Mmmmn! When can I come round? Hubby cannot even smell liver without turning green! I do like it but only when I am in the mood and now I am in the mood!
