WOYWW - 167

Not much exciting going on when I took this photo yesterday before dragging my feet downstairs to tackle a shed load of ironing:
That basket of cards is growing - must do those inserts before they make a bid to take over the desk.

Then, in front are my embossing folders as they've been irritating me lately. Why don't manufacturers put the full flipping names on folders?! So, I've been trawling round the internet checking out the names and writing them on in permanent ink. Ha, next week I could be sitting with my feet up on the desk peeling grapes - it would be as rewarding. Although my hope is that it'll make writing up what I've used to make cards a bit easier in the long run.

And, a swing to the right:
Another rapidly growing pile of stuff to be put away :(

That's my offering for this week - now hop it - over to Julia's to see what everyone else is up to today. If you see anyone actually sitting peeling grapes be sure to let me know.

  1. Not peeling grapes here Di but knitting socks is almost as repetitive! You can do mine when you've finished too if you like! It annoys me that there is no name on them. I like your Marianne one and I see you have the Boofle patchwork one, that one I really would like. Must give the boy a shopping list for his trip home in October!! I see you have new Christmas paper too, and HM images!!

  3. Happy grape peeling next week, Di! I shall probably be doing the same once the Paralympics start - I've gone into a sort of bereavement at the end of the Olympics and can't wait to get another fix!

Your desk looks highly organised. Nice stack of stash. I entirely agree with you about embossing folders - I've stuck labels on quite a few of mine. It's really annoying because if you want to write up a project and say which one you used, you have to look it up and try and find it online!!

    Happy WOYWW,

  4. Nicely organised desk. When I try to stack things, I always want what is on the bottom and it all goes to pot!

  7. Writing the names on the folder, ok that could work. I started out putting mine in plastic sleeves in a small binder that I bought at Hobby Lobby, and put the names on the tab. But, lately all I do is open them throw away the packaging and never think about the name again. I just bought 3 new ones on clearance I need to get the package out of the waste basket. #22

  9. Writing names on folders is a clever idea. I tend to just reuse the packaging and then am left wondering!!

  11. I definitely detect a little tetchiness creeping into your workspace this week Di...I know I get just the same when having to tackle ironing and tidying up too ;D

I agree with Ros...forget peeling the grapes just head into the fermented ones.
I'm sure you'll soon be a happy bunny Cheers! Hic!

  13. I don't have any of those folders, since I don't have a die cutter. I never think about telling what I use for my art. It's all craft paint or fluid acrylics or something I got at the thrift store. I'm not a card maker, so I guess my demands aren't as important (grin). Have a great WOYWW. BTW, I'm number 11.

  18. Just got a few minutes to say hello before I dash out. Grape peeling, I don't think so, I think you would just find something else to organise :) It is odd that the manufacturers don't put the name on the folder - I store mine with a piece of card, embossed with the pattern and the name written on the top of that but your method sounds less work. Have a great day and happy WOYWW. Elizabeth x #56

  19. I take it that putting inserts into cards is like pulling teeth for you?? It's funny how we all have tasks which drive us mad and therefore we put 'em off! I particularly hate sewing in ends of wool if I've done fairisle knitting, drives me MAD!!!!!!! Sigh...

  20. Well at least your 'put me away pile' is balanced and neat...that's a good thing! Notice that all your papers and things are pretty and relatively pastel....we do reflect ourselves in our choices, huH! when I was a rep, I used to write the name and stock code on everything I used for demos, it's a worthwhile time investment. Luckily, these days, I don't. But you would have guessed that!

  21. Lots of ironing to do here today as well - maybe you could pop over when you've finished yours!! I spotted a nice Pad of paper to the right - maybe you're going to make a start on your Christmas cards?

  23. I'm with you on the names on folders I have so many and I can't remember all those names and some are too weird. people come to my classes and want to get them and pooh! I can't tell them the name or what set it came through because I forgot to write it on the folder. Ok... enough fussing LOL Have a great day!

  24. Happy WOYWW my friend.

I like the look of your desk today . . . it has lots of goodies on it so I'll be round to play later!

Ironing! Wash your mouth out . . . you swore. I'll be doing mine later, as UNFORTUNATELY the Silver Dream Machine DOESN'T do it! Sigh! xxx

  25. Great desk this week Di!
I won’t on all my embossing folders when I brought them too but beware, they rub off after time. I agree the makers should print it on them when they are made.

Looks like you have some rather pretty Pink bits and pieces to put away……if you don’t have room, I do, Lol.

    Happy Crafting!

  30. That's a good stash of embossing folders Di, think I have the grand total of two lol but I haven't a clue what they are called. Maybe I should start early with the naming ceremony?

  33. I hope the marker idea works for you. I have put mine in a binder and didn't even think of saving the name or logging the name somehow. You are very kind to your fans to go to the trouble!!

  34. P.S. Thanks for the "other half" info. Duh. We tend to say "better half" ... I should say men usually say "better half" when referring to their wives, which is as it should be. Women usually say something unprintable, so "other half" is a nice public alternative!!

  35. Hi Di. Well done for naming all your folders. I tend to just say what make I am using and leave it at that.
My pile of cards wanting inserts is growing too. Why oh why don't we make them at the same time as the card? We never learn do we?

  37. Thoughts on your post:
    You iron in a shed?
Why don't they put the names of the folders on the folders?
Why don't they put the names of punches on the punch?
    Why is the sky blue?
Peeling grapes? That doesn't sound relaxing at all.

Put a piece of tape over the name your wrote on your folder. I've had even the permanent ink transfer onto my plastic mat during the rolling/squishing process.

  38. Happy Belated WOYWW - late getting round this week. Ironing - my full basket has even been moved into the living room so I can iron in front of the tv, but it is still sitting there several days later! Inserts - not as bad as trying to find envies to fit cards. I often give up and just put a bigger one with them. Doesn't look so smart, but I haven't got the time/strength to custom make them. 40. Thanks for your visit, Di - glad you enjoyed nosing around my messy ARTHaven this week, and I hope you didn't trip over all the obstacles on the floor lol! Very hazardous place at the moment.

re the Kindle - I bought my hubby a basic one for his birthday, and while I was setting it up for him and registering it with his Amazon account (as a present, I bought it unregistered, so it wouldn't get registered to my account), I thought "How cool is this! I WANT one!!" and after my birthday I used some of my parents' birthday money to get one for me too! We've both got the basic ones - it's very easy to turn the pages with the buttons. I really didn't think I needed to spend extra for any fancy stuff, and it works a treat. If you are thinking of getting a cover, I got covers for both of ours on Ebay for a fraction of the price on Amazon - beautiful ones from China, with free postage, but you do have to wait as they take ages to come. Definitely worth it. Mine has a magnetic closure and is very convincing faux leather with a lovely "suede" inside.

To get you started, on Ebay there are loads of CDs available with thousands of books on them - OK some of it you don't want, but in amongst it all there are loads of really good books by famous authors. Really cheap too.

Have fun! Let me know what you decide to get!

  41. Love nosying around your desk. Writing the names on the ef is a great idea. I used to keep a notebook beside me whilst working to write things I'm using down on and have not done that in a year or so. You've prompted me to start again. Have a great week. LisaDV#123

  42. I know what you mean about the embossing folders (I'm afraid I've given up saying what each one is called because I just can't remember). Glad to see that someone else has a growing pile waiting for inserts. Have a good week. Hazel WOYWW #120 x
