Rudolph Days - July 2025

Here's a Christmas card using pre-printed images from Etsy:
I used:

- 5.5" x 4.25" white card blank, side opening

- the pre-printed images on white linen card from Etsy caught my eye and the Craft Addiction Square slatted dies from a lovely crafting pal popped straight into my mind

- the images come in a pack of 10, two of each design on with each die cut into a neat stitched square - stay with me though, there is a hitch

- lined up the top layers of each image BUT also carefully checked edges to edges to see how precisely the images were printed, and some were not aligned 'bang on' for my plan - gasp, shock and horror!

- and so, small adjustments were made, leaving two total wrecks behind - but I did end up with three decent slatted layered images at least - memo to self,  print your own images/downloads in future! I would have expected total precision - without which, the effect of the slatted image is totally spoiled

- having die cut the 'slotted' top layers, I then glued them onto the bottom layers to form what Len calls a 'Venetian Blind effect' - nice turn of phrase there!

- then dug out snippets of Tonic Mirror 'Inca Gold' card to trim a slightly larger frame for the image - only an eighth of an inch on all sides and then glued them together

- at this point I thought the image was intricate enough so added the whole image panel onto the card front using glue

the sentiment is from a much loved Uniko set of Christmas sentiments called 'Simply Said Blocks - Christmas' - stamped using VersaFine Clair 'Nocturne' black ink

- then covered the uncut stamped sentiment with self adhesive 'laminating film' to add some shine, before trimming it down and running a black Tombow brush pen around the edges - I have a few in my little snippets pot

- added the sentiment to the card front using a glue pen and called it a wrap!

I made three, almost the same, to boost our 2025 Christmas card numbers, hobbling along like a three legged donkey here - yee-haw!

I'd like to enter this card into the following challenge:

Phew - almost missed the end of July deadline for Rudolph Days Challenge - squeaked in by a gnat's whisker.

  1. This double layer image card is very effective Di and works brilliantly with the slatted die. I think there is another way to tackle it..I think iif you place the die in the centre of one and cut it, you can line it up over the whole uncut image and stick it down and then use a square/rectangle die to cut the two layers together thus eliminating the uneven edges. In fact it would not matter if the under layer was cut smaller as it would not show when they are put together providing there is enough space beyond the image, but I can see in this case your edge is quite close to the edge of the image. Does this make sense or am I being a 'smarty pants' who is not as smart as she thought..lol. Anyway whatever I love the look of this and the finish is very elegant and so a few more to boost your Christmas card numbers. x

    1. Great advice Pat, and not a Smarty Pants in the least. But, as Val rightly says, the images were already trimmed with the stitched edges, sigh. Chucking it down with rain here and little Dudley is refusing to venture out for a wee. Visions of Len standing holding an umbrella over him if it doesn't ease off!

    2. Sorry Di, I obviously didn't read your 'how to' properly and missed that bit so no wonder you were finding it difficult to fix the problem. I would probably have thrown the whole lot up in the air and given up at that point...lol. x

  3. Well done for making these in time to meet the Rudolph Days deadline - this is such an effective technique but not without its potential problems as you discovered. Pat's suggestion is a perfect solution although I believe in this case your images were already at their finished size when you received them - just unfortunate that they weren't perfectly aligned. Love Len's suggestion that it should be called Venetian blind technique - good thinking 😉

Do hope it stopped raining in time for Dudley's bladder not to have an 'ooops'
