Thinking of you

It's always so hard to know what to do about Christmas cards for recently bereaved friends. On the one hand, 'jolly and bright' doesn't seem right, yet it also doesn't seem right to not at least show that you're thinking of your friend.

This year, I have two such friends - grieving for their loss of a spouse - so I made a couple of cards exactly the same:

I used:

- 5.5" x 4.25" white card blank, tent style

- a snippet of Tonic pearlescent 'Navy Dazzle' card which I die cut using a 'Lil' Inkers Stitched Rectangles' die

- the Penny Black Stickeroo is from the 'Woodland Splendor' sheet popped onto a snippet of Tonic Studio pearlescent 'Majestic Gold' card

- then glued the rectangles on top of one another and then to the card front

- no sentiment, just added a plain insert to write a message

Some of you will already know that one of the friends is our lovely 'Snippets Playmate' Carol Longacre, whose much loved husband Butch died recently - we all send you our love and thoughts Carol.

If you care to skip over to the Snippets Playground HERE - Sarn has opened up a fresh challenge, her snippets card is so lovely!

On the subject of cards, I ordered our Christmas postage stamps weeks ago from Royal Mail. I was updated to say they're finally on the way, and today is 12 days since that notification - but no sign as yet. Thankfully all the overseas cards have gone, along with a few UK cards - I did have some UK stamps left from last year. However, it's looking a bit grim with the ongoing strikes and I apologise right now that my UK cards will very possibly not reach people in time for Christmas.

Dudley Pupdate: Our back garden landscaping work is finally done. As with any big project, there have been been a few hiccups along the way but thankfully all sorted out now. Dudley's so funny - he's fussy about his feet and began to literally wipe them on the door mat during the messy part - as he came indoors! In fact, he's still doing it! At one point it was so muddy that he had to be carried out during the night if Nature called! Glad all that's over.

PS, He is scheduled for a bath/shower on Monday - wish us luck!

  3. Beautiful card Di, I seem to always need some of this type of card, but that’s what’s nice being able to make personal cards. It can be such a tough time especially at Christmas but we’re lucky to have your funny stories to cheer us, I can just imagine Dudley wiping his feet on the mat! I bet there’s a lot of dog owners who’d like their pooches to do that! Xxx

  4. You've nailed the problem of the need for a special card for the sort of situation you mentioned, always difficult to know what to do but this is perfect. Good luck with your stamps arriving and also of course with Dudley's 'bath night'. He'll need an extra warm fluffy towel if the weather stays as cold as it is today 🥶🥶

  7. Sadly I’ve had the same problem this year. I opted for “Seasons Greetings” on the outside and handwritten message on the inside. Unfortunately I’m at that age when it’s becoming a bit of a regular occurrence. xx

  9. A lovely card, Di. It's always so difficult making and receiving festive wishes when there is a painful loss of a beloved one. Carol is a great friend of mine despite the distance, and I really hope she could find soon a bit of peace in her heart and mind.
Dudley is always stunning! He is able to wiping his feet on the mat, WOW! You are a lucky lady! :D
Hugs and happy five to Dudley!

  10. The first Christmas is always the worst, or even the first of everything after the loss of a Spouse, so my SiL says after losing her first husband. I'm sure your gorgeous card will help, knowing friends are there to support her.

  11. Such a beautiful card Di and strikes just the right note. Bless your fastidious Dudley! I would LOVE Eva to wipe her feet before coming into the house but I don't think that's going to happen any time soon! Hugs, Vicky xx

  13. Your card is lovely Di and perfect for those of us who are grieving and trying to enjoy the holidays - even though our hearts are not in it this year. I appreciate everyone's kindness and thoughtfulness in giving me time to sort things out and hopefully once this month is behind me, things will ease up a little bit. Hugs to you and everyone else in the playground - I miss you all! I mailed my overseas cards late this year too, but they are in the mail :) Fortunately, the playground enabled me to make enough cards all year to have ready for mailing this year! Enjoy the holidays everyone! Love one another too! Hugssss

  15. These cards are just perfect for your two friends who have sadly lost their spouses this year, and the images are really beautiful and love the way you have mounted them in such an elegant way with the stitched rectangle, and how great that Dudley wipes his feet when he comes in from outside...I think he is doing better than someone around here who shall remain nameless..lol. x

  18. Gorgeous card and ideal for your bereaved friend. I have a sentiment stamp that says "with gentle thoughts at Christmas time". I use it with a very subdued winter image for bereaved friends.
