Pixie's Snippets Playground - Challenge #403

It's been a strange week really, very mixed weather. Sunny and quite warm then, chilly with rain. Len went back to archery on Wednesday morning for the first time for a year and it was a shock to Dudley for sure. He, Dudley not Len, lay at the top of the stairs, watching the front door for the whole morning until the 'aching archer' returned home.

I struggled to make some upcoming Birthday cards  - lack of inspiration didn't really help either. And my exciting outing of the week was a routine dental check-up.

This current challenge's 'snippets sample' card is actually a card made by the lovely Liz of 'Crafty Sunflower'. I spotted it linked into the challenge that just closed and loved it immediately, earmarked it as a 'pick' then rushed out to buy the set of dies for a Playground prize, plus one for me of course. I then  realised this shoulder really needs more TLC so I asked Liz if I could use her card image as a sample - and she very kindly said 'Of course'. And here it is:

I'm hugely grateful to Liz for coming to the rescue - I think we might have had a challenge with just a photo of my huge concertina snippets folder otherwise!

To find out how Liz made this clever card, you can find out all about it on her blog post HERE. I do so love the design and even the sentiment has that 'paint brushed' look about it. You can rely on Liz to come up with some clever ways to use dies and this is a perfect example.

And here's the prize on offer:

Sweet Dixie SDD365 Cutting Die, Metal, Grey, Medium: Amazon.co.uk: Kitchen & Home

It's a Sweet Dixie 'DIY Tools' set of dies needless to say, with lots of depth to the die cuts as well. The image is from the internet as still I'm waiting for delivery of the sets of dies. Absolutely perfect for male cards - it's a while since we had a 'male' themed prize and Liz's design especially is so very clever.

As always, the Snippets Challenge will run for two weeks and the Playground gates will close at 11am UK time on Saturday 29th May. The gates will open again at midnight UK time on the same day.

It's a maximum of ONE entry, please say in a comment if you wish to play and be a possible winner of the prize. Please also link back to the Playground in your blog post to be eligible for the draw.

Remember, if you link into the Playground and don't say clearly that you want to be in the draw in a comment on here, then you will be bypassed if your name comes out of Mr Linky. I'm sure you all know I ask for a positive 'yes' on the blog post itself - just in case you're only playing for fun - otherwise I don't add you to my little list.

Please also remember that I only allow a total of nine other challenges, which makes 10 in total, when you enter a snippets make into the Playground.

Dudley is currently fast asleep under the desk, with his head resting on one of my feet. I'm convinced he's attached to us with invisible velcro! If I stand up, even to just get something from a cupboard in here, he's up and watching. Of course though, he's also incredibly nosy and hates to miss anything ☺

My week ahead includes a check-up at the optician's which means venturing into the centre of town for the first time in well over a year. Then the following week I have a 'hair chop' booked. With cases of the Indian variant of COVID on the rise it seems prudent to get a few appointments out of the way just in case we go into yet another lock down. I really think that would be utterly soul-destroying - certainly I'd be pretty devastated, particularly on behalf of so many people who've been apart from loved ones for so long. Let's hope for the best.

Stay safe and be kind.

Lots of love from us all - Parsnip, Dudley and of course me,

  1. Oh my... I LOVE Liz's Card and the die set, so I raise my hand as a yes please to have my name in the prize draw (actually it is more of a "pick me, pick me!!" Ha!)
I'm also glad that you were able to share Liz's card and rest your arm, Di. Am so glad you are taking care of yourself!

  2. Great card by Liz and fab prize for those seemingly “difficult to make” masculine cards.

Glad you were sensible and rested your shoulder. Hope it improves given time.

Bet Len was pleased to be able to do his hobby again, even if he ached afterwards xxx

  3. I too thought this was a clever card when I spotted it on Liz's blog and it is good to have a more masculine theme to the prize since so many people seem to struggle with cards for men.

  4. I was only too happy to let you use my card as a snippet example, Di. You need to keep taking care of your shoulder. The tool dies are a really good size and emboss as well as cut. For anyone who hasn’t seen Sweet Dixie dies before, there are quite a few masculine themed ones. (I’m not on commission for them. lol) I’ll be back later with a snippets card, but will obviously just be playing for fun this time. xx

  7. What a wonderful card, and prize Di.
Yes I heard on our news today that the Indian strain is gaining traction in the UK - what a year you have had of it... I agree that another lockdown would be soul destroying and exceedingly difficult for you all.
Love that Dudley is such a devoted pet - pets are wonderful therapists.
    Stay safe
    Blessings

  9. I thought Liz's card wonderful too Di, the dies are always great by SD and I have a couple in my stash, I would love to add to my stash with these though, so YES! please, to the "include me please" list, as I resisted the buy when I saw Liz's card originally. I'm glad you have a few appointments sorted out, as yes! it is not looking good with the new variant.

  12. Your exciting outing this past week are most people's nightmares. Just kidding. I know it was NOT exciting. I do hope there's no more lock down for y'all. We've just went maskless. I do hope it's not going to bite us in the butt.

I'm in for the challenge, please. If I can remember to add a card AND follow the rules. [Bunny]

  13. I loved this card of Liz's when I saw it on her blog and the dies will make a great prize, but as I have just won if I get a card in I will be playing for fun this time. Sorry your shoulder is still playing you up and you must not overdo it Di. It is right for us to try and do more normal things, albeit with care and good for Len to get back to his archery. x

  14. Glad you are managing to do a few things. Hope we don't go one step forward, two steps back, but people do seem to have very little restraint or common sense. I suppose Dudley loves lockdown, with you home all the time LOL. Love Liz's card and what a fun die set. Yes please to be included in the draw, once I get my snippetty make made. HUgz

  15. I hate that your shoulder is still giving you trouble and hope it clears up soon. I love the colorful card that Liz made, so cheerful with such bright colors. Dudley waiting for Len is just like the movie I just watched called Hachi on Netflix. Great movie about a dog. I hope you can get it.

  16. I LOVE that card! Great colors! Good luck at your appointment!

  18. What a lovely and bright birthday card - love it - but I already have a die set of tools - maybe I should drag it out for this playground entry ... Stay safe Di and kin - it's nice to have a hair cut etc but would rather have you safe - at least you have had the jab - I hope it covers all the variants! Cheers Maurs xxx

  19. Yes Please to this fun prize! That paintbrush design is so colorful and fun that it's no wonder it caught your eye right away. I'm so sorry to hear that your shoulder continues to plague you, and happy that Liz allowed you to show off her card for the sample.
We went to a restaurant today for the first time in over a year, and had lunch on the outside patio there. We were celebrating our son's birthday a month late, and hadn't seen him (or his wife) since January. So I was glad to be able to treat them to champagne brunch as our first restaurant outing. I admit it felt odd being out in public, but as we've been fully vaccinated for more than a month we risked it. Just hoping none of these variants become too common in our area.
    Stay safe!

  26. What a super duper fun card from Liz, and a big YES PLEASE to this great set of dies. My husband and his dad are both fix-it guys, so this would get a lot of use.
I'm hoping your shoulder gets better with rest, and it doesn't seem fair for you to be limping along just as things are opening up. My husband and I are finally fully vaccinated, but our three kids are too young, so we're still easing into things.
Give Dudley a cuddle from me, and let's all hope that these variants don't cause more shut downs again.

  30. Thank you to Liz for coming to the rescue! The card is so bold and bright and such fun! I agree with you about the soul-destroying bit and really hope we can somehow avoid it, in spite of so many not getting vaccinated. Take care and keep safe! Hugs, Darnell

  37. OK lovely lady I'm back and have linked, just playing for fun and praise no prize draw for me thanks. I did enjoy reading the next post about your childhood and wonderful stand-in parents, assuming you were a services "brat" and at a very testing time for all service people. Not that you would know it reading our memory which just sounds happy. Stay safe, Keep well, and have fun x

  39. Great design on Liz's card and such a grand prize. I hope your outings went well and you're back home safe and sound. We went into another lockdown in late April (only supermarkets and pharmacies are open, most other businesses are closed), and have now progressed to a State of Emergency and curfew. After all this time, people are still having home parties (some of my neighbours) and gathering by the dozens in public spaces for prayer vigils. Sigh! A definite yes from me on this fortnight's prize as I have nothing similar in my stash. Take care!

  40. A great card from Liz and lovely prize for masculine cards, I always struggle with those. I hope your shoulder improves soon and I will be a Yes please for the prize. Thank you x

  41. Oh, what a fun card!!! I love how she has the paint "swaths" coming out from the brushes!! I'm torn about the prize as I already have a set of tool dies, BUT I don't have all the ones in the prize set and my husband as well as his grandfather are both carpenters. I think I will play for the prize this time, thank you so much!

  42. Just playing for fun as I have a similar set already. Hugs Me.
