It's been a very mixed week here with one thing and another. We certainly have had a real variety of weather with it swinging from sunny and very warm, to snow flurries and very cold - plus most options in between as well.
First of all, the picks:
We had a few coffee/cup themed entries this time due to it being a regular coffee lovers blog hop - all of them were great but this one particularly caught my eye - made by Suzanne. Super use of snippets and I love the mixing of gingham and dots - the little pegs on the 'wood' strip are genius!!
I picked this lovely card made by Greta for a number of reasons. It's pink, pretty, took my breath away and the flowers were die cut from white snippets. Also Greta has included a link in her blog post to the background technique which is 'print making with die cuts'. Fabulous and certainly one to try - do hop over to find the link!
And here's another great technique, beautifully showcased by Jeanne. It's known as 'the floating element card technique' and i do urge you to hop over to Jeanne's blog to take a look at the video link she has included in her post. Jeanne herself has said that it's easier to see the floating aspect in real life and I can well believe it having watched the video. A clue is that there's acetate involved.
That's my picks from Challenge 399 in the Playground, been nursing a stinking cold (where did that come from then?) most of the week and am very tired so I've stuck to the three picks limit.
I make no apologies for including a couple of new and different technique picks - they are great for using snippets and it's always so good to pick up new ideas. Certainly, both of these last two picks/techniques were totally new to me.
We had 42 entries and no new Playmates.
Now for the prize draw which is for a lovely Stamping Bella stamp set (called 'Tiny Townie: Dawn Loves Her Doggie'), donated by Ruby's Mum, Lynne in NI.
Congratulations Helen - I do hope your prize reminds you of Honey from your childhood! I always stick rigidly to whoever has said a yes please to the prize and is picked first - I think this time it was serendipity! Helen is often one of our picks and it's lovely to see her winning after a slightly dry spell! Many thanks again to Lynne in NI for donating the prize.
Please send me your address, even if you know that I know it already, with your full name at the top as well so it can be can be copied and pasted for speed and ease. It's also confirmation that you still would like the prize of course. Please put Playground Winner or similar in the subject line of your email in case it drops into my junk mail. Email address is on RH sidebar as always.
Remember folks, there's still almost one more week to run on the current Challenge 400 celebration challenge which is HERE. The prize is a bit of a bumper one - a set of MFT 'Tall Tag Duo' dies, Clearly Besotted's set of stamps called 'All booked up' and also their 'Wise Owl' set of stamps - just perfect for making bookmarks, or cards if you wish. Plus, a Lawn Fawn 'Really Rainbow' 6" x 6" petite paper pack on order to complete the prize - it's been sent out so should be here soon. Good ole Frau Green!
Do please see if you can share your inspiration and ideas for using up snippets, with them being the focus of the card if possible.
Dudley is such a kleptomaniac! Len was working fixing something the other day and when it came to gathering up his tools to put them away, a block of very hard wood that he uses for who knows what was missing. Dudley had sidled up, pinched it and was hiding where he thought he couldn't be seen ....... having a sneaky test of it for 'chewability'. When this publishes he might not be on speaking terms with us - he needs a bath and it's pencilled in for Saturday (ie. yesterday). If we survive the deluge I'll add a bit here to say how it went!
Edit: It went really well - we think he's certainly getting more used to the whole process and it's better for him than a trip to the grooming salon. The real secret is for me to sit waiting with a huge bath towel on my lap at the ready when he's finished to wrap him up like a burrito to pat the worst of the water away. He's currently lying beside me telling monkey all about his experience! It won't be too long before we'll need to give him another trim - we're keeping that news secret for now!
Finally, I just sent another £20 to USPCA in Northern Ireland, who rescued Ruby, as I didn't need to buy a prize or anything to make my own sample. With Gift Aid they get £25 towards their wonderful work - in memory of wee Ruby of course.
Ahhh--such sweet words about my card, Di--thank you! Love Suzanne & Jeanne's cards! That Dudley is a character sneaking Len's wood! Glad the bath went well.
ReplyDeleteGreat picks and congrats to Helen on her win.
ReplyDeleteLovely to hear about Dudley’s capers xxx
Great picks as always and wonderful to have pointers towards different techniques to try. Will be checking these out later. Hope your cold disappears quickly.
ReplyDeleteThanks so much Di, and congrats to Helen, hope you enjoy your new stamp X
ReplyDeleteCongrats to Helen! Thanks so much for picking my teacups. I'm off to see how the others made their cards. Love to Dudley and family!
ReplyDeleteVery interesting picks, and just love the floating element, thanks for sharing the link for this technique. Big congrats to the winner!
ReplyDeleteGreat you donated £20 to the rescue centre, there are always a lot of doggies in need! Dudley the kleptomaniac :D is very lucky to have you, Len and the monkeys family! LOL :D
Hugs (and cuddles to him)!
Great picks! I love those mugs! Congrats to Helen!!! So sweet of you to donate to USCPA!
ReplyDeleteThanks Di for showcasing my card. An honor! I too love the mugs and learning new techniques with die cuts. What a hoot about Dudley sneaking off with the wood. :)
ReplyDeleteOh, I really love how Suzanne used her snippets. Congrats to everyone. I enjoy seeing creative use of snippets.
ReplyDeleteBlessings,
Karen
Oh wow - I'm the lucky winner...what a wonderful surprise!
ReplyDeleteLove the picks - there's always such variety & lots of inspiration for using up those snippets!

Helen x
Lovely picks. Poor Dudley doesn't know what's in store for him.
ReplyDeleteDo they have dog washes there in the UK? Here at certain pet stores for a price you bring your pet in and use their facility. Nice stand up tubs, etc. [Bunny]
Congratulations to Helen on her win and to all the showcased crafters! There are some smashers!
ReplyDeleteI love that you are bathing and grooming Dudley yourselves and it sounds as if you’re all enjoying it more and more. What a monkey to run off with Len’s wood! Eva has done the same with a sanding block once!
Weird old weather isn’t it. Roll on the warmer weather! Hugs, Vicky xx
Congratulations Helen on your win enjoy your prize Gorgeous as always Di are your picks .....Dudley’s updates are always an interesting read nice to know your grooming him and the little monkey always into mischief always fun though take care x
ReplyDeleteGreat picks. I enjoyed checking out the "how tos" for both -- I'm trying to use different techniqu3s instead of the same old one.
ReplyDeleteCongrats, Helen.
Amazing cards by the winners!!
ReplyDeleteGreat picks Di and congratulations to Helen for winning the lovely prize. Glad Dudley is getting used to be bathed and primped and had to laugh at him taking and hiding Len's piece of wood. I seem to recall my Dad used to use a block of wood when he wanted to hammer on to a surface which might mark and used the wood between the hammer and the surface. Hope your cold soon goes. x
ReplyDeleteGorgeous picks - such beautiful cards. Congrats to your random winner too. That's a great donation, Di. I'll try and sort out a prize for a future challenge to help out. Jo x
ReplyDeleteHope your cold clears up and you feel better soon. There have been less of those this winter here which goes to show that washing hands and social distancing is having an effect on more than just Corona. Congrats to all the top picks and to Helen. Nice to learn new techniques. I did some of the printing with die cuts as well and it was really fun. The technique time post at Let's Squash It! this month is heavy on snippets. I linked up the card I made to your challenge 400 so maybe you will have time/feel up to checking it out, and do join the fun if you have a chance. Be safe, get well soon. HUgz
ReplyDeleteVery beautiful cards!
ReplyDeletecongrats to winner!
A fabulous selection of Top picks, Di and congratulation to Helen on her win. Had to smile at Dudley pinching the wood and trying to hide it. Glad his bath went well. xx
