Autumn is really setting in now here, and of course the nights are drawing in as well. Soon be time for the hedgie family to hibernate. We have between four and six of them coming to feed each night so I hope they do decide to go to sleep and give Len a break from all the work feeding them - and clearing up their mess!
I think last weekend was good for the soul but not the back! And this is a bumper post so I'd best crack straight on. You might want to get a hot drink to keep you company!
Here's my snippets card for this week - not easy to photograph so I hope you get the general idea. I used exactly the same card stock for the entire body of the card but Autumn shadows don't help - I need a light box!
I used:
- SU's 'Perfect Plum' card stock, which I die cut into three peces to make an accordian fold card, using the Elizabeth Craft Designs 'Accordion Fancy Label' die - designed by Karen Burniston
- then I attached the three parts together to make the main accordian part of the card, then trimmed off the extra tags and joining strip at the right hand end
- used snippets of lilac pearlescent card for three shaped panels, again using the same die set, and glued them in place
- stamped two horses onto snippets of white card stock using VersaFine 'Vintage Sepia' ink and stamps from an Inkadinkado set called 'Horses' (Mia is crazy about horses and horse riding!)
- die cut the images using a smaller shaped die from the same set and glued them in place
- stamped 'Happy Birthday' using VersaFine 'Vintage Sepia' ink and a LOTV stamp from their 'General Greetings - Small' set
- die cut the panel and glued it in place
- then added Mia's name (Len's eldest Grand daughter) using number and letters dies cut from teeny snippets of lilac pearlescent card
- added a white die cut panel to the back of the centre panel for our handwritten message
- and only then was it time to attach the tabs to the back of two of the panels to make the accordian mechanism work
This card is winging its way to Germany and I'm hoping that Mia's Mama doesn't peek at the blog meanwhile! I wanted to use this die set as it's Week 250 and time for a special prize :) It was great fun to make too. One really big tip is to use thicker card for the 'base' than I did though - something like 270 or 300 gsm will be more rigid.

It shook me was when I realised that Mia is almost 9! And her younger sister is soon to be 7 - how did that happen?!
Time for a peek at Week 248's picks, as chosen by the lovely Jane and with her comments word for word as well:
I find Jane's choices absolutely fascinating. I didn't stay away from the Playground all week and of course I think (hope) I follow all of you so I did see your makes pop up on my dashboard even though there was no time to always comment. And, I would have made exactly the same choices as Jane! I've found this with Sarn and Eve when they helped out previously - on a couple of occasions I even quickly made a list of my own along the way just to check I wasn't just being influenced by their end choices! It's marvellous just how closely we all think!
It has been easier writing up the picks that Jane gave me a week later as I could 'pace it' over the week but I do like to try to keep the Playground as 'dynamic' as possible - so here now are my own picks for Week 249, which just closed. My comments will be quite brief as I really can't sit at the desk for very long:
Sharon brought this great Halloween card to share with us - love it!
And last, but never least:
Please don't be in any way downhearted if you're not a 'pick' - every single entry is wonderful and deserves to be seen. That's why I really do encourage you to visit one another - even if it's in 'slow time' just when you want a browse. I never delete the closed Mr Linkys so you can always look at past weeks - and I do try hard to make sure everyone gets a turn at being in the weekly picks.
We had no new Playmates last week or the previous week! But, it's still been very busy in the Playground! 53 entries in Week 248 and 62 in Week 249.
And now for Week 249 - and we have a split prize for once!
The First prize (prize A) is of course the Elizabeth Craft Designs 'Accordion Fancy Label' die set - exactly the same as the set I used for my card today. The overall size of each panel is just under 5" square BTW:
Then there are two runner up prizes, first of all a bumper pack of Hunkydory 'Little Dudes & Perfect Princesses' toppers (144 images in total - 6 x 24 different ones!). This is Prize B for reference and was kindly donated by Kim after our weekend of frolics.
The toppers are 6" x 4" and are a great selection for kiddies cards especially - although some are suitable for teens and cute cards as well. I personally think the whole range of Hunkydory pads will fit nicely into the niche left by LOTV when they discontinued theirs - albeit not printed on card but I always 'frame' toppers like these on a slightly larger piece of card anyhow and you get so many for your money!
And the other runner up prize, C for reference, given to me as a prize is a lovely Crafts-Too embossing folder (CTFD3108) which is almost 6" square - not a size you often find and so useful! The pattern is modern roses and really pretty, so much so that I've ordered the same one for myself now! Lovely for all sorts of occasions I told myself, sigh - as if I didn't buy enough last weekend :(
A maximum of ONE entry and please say in a comment if you wish to play and be a possible winner of one of the prizes. Just say which ones you're interested in (A, B and or C) - or ALL if you want to be in with a chance for each one. I will keep the three prizes separate so will be doing three draws to spread the love a bit further! Please also link back to the Playground in your blog post to be eligible for the draw.
Mr Linky is below - please let me know if you have any problems linking, it's easy for me to sort out so don't struggle on alone :)
Always fun to see the picks--such a great variety of work! Your snippets card is so fun, Di! I'll play only for Prize C. Wish I lived near you--could just come play at your house & save my money--haha!
ReplyDeleteWOW Di you made a Pop Up Card !!! I love them and its been some time since I made one. So thrilled to see my owl card as your pick..the funny thing was I thought about you when I posted it and knew you would like it...funny how we come to know our friend's tastes though we have never met!! Such gorgeous picks today...I have to go visit all the talented ladies. Please put my name for a chance at all 3.....you are so generous
ReplyDeleteCheers
Dr Sonia
What a very fancy card you made Di! These always look so difficult to make and design but having a die made just for this would make it almost do-able! I often have problems trying to photograph my cards as well but can't say that I've had quite this much difference in each panel as you had. I actually think your card is beautiful, with the same card stock or different shades! Thanks so much for showcasing my Halloween card and congrats to the winners! Yes please to your prize.
ReplyDeleteWhat a great range of beautiful cards! And mine is in it too and I am very glad about that! Thanks a lot,
ReplyDeleteLia xx
Forgot to tell, that you also have made a superb card and you are always giving away great prizes and it would be great winning one of them.

Congrats to your winners and notables this week, and I'm glad you had so much fun while you were away "playing!" I'm playing just for fun this week, but thanks for another playground week :)
ReplyDeleteHello Di, lovely post, so much to see and catch up with. Your accordion card is lovely. From reading through how it was made I can see that the die you used is a very clever one. The showcased makes are all gorgeous and show just how well snippets can be used up. Congratulations to all the prize winners. I'd be delighted with anyone of this weeks fabulous prizes so count me in, please. Hugs, Elizabeth xx

Super card for Mia. My eldest grandson will soon be 9 too. Eek!
ReplyDeleteJust playing for fun. Still getting over last weekend.
p.s. Shall I pop the plastic dish cloth in the post for you to use?
Hop it - bad influence that you are - snort :) xx
DeleteDi thanks so much for the mention, it fairly made my day.
ReplyDeleteHugs and happy crafting.
Erika. X
Wonderful selection of cards will look tomorrow in more detail just back from Cornwall. LOve to have a try at the prize. :) xx
ReplyDeleteSuch amazing and inventive work, we are all so clever in the Playground! Thank you so much for including me, I'm flattered.
ReplyDeleteCongratulations on 250 Weeks of keeping us all in line in the Playground! What a stunning card for your 250th week, I'm sure Mia will be thrilled with it. Lovely to see all the beautiful picks from the last two weeks. I'd like to be put into the draw for prizes A and C please. xx
ReplyDeleteBet it's fun watching your Hedgie family come for dinner. We think we have one visits our garden but we've never actually seen him!
ReplyDeleteGreat picks, and your card is a stunner Di!
Yes please to be in the draw for your folder and the toppers :)
So many wonderful cards to look at. The one that really made me take notice was Heather's paper pieced pumpkin. To piece it with autumn patterned paper was such an eye opener for me!
ReplyDeleteLove your multi-paneled card. I knew a lady who used to make cards like that back in the day before die cuts existed. Even with them it still sounds a bit fiddly but I'm sure nothing like it used to be (like there's a chance I could actually make one). Yes please for the draw.
Hi Miss Di, Congratulations on your 250th Challenge! May there be many more... Thank you for all the Snippet's Challenges, the fun, mischief and sharing the backyard critters, hope you are feeling better soon... Have a great week... Megan
ReplyDeleteFAB card and some super picks this week. Congrats on the 250 :-D xxxx
ReplyDeleteCongrats on 250! Thanks for everything you do for us, Di. I love your card and would love to win the prize, so it's a yes, please, from me.
ReplyDeleteHugs,
Em xxx
Hi Di....thanks for the mention the other week and congrats on 250 posts! I would like to be in the draw foe A & C please. Glad you had a good crafty break away and Thank You for 'The Playground' xx
ReplyDeleteWhat a pretty and fun card you have created Di...those horse images are fabulous! I have finally made it back here to 'play...I have missed several weeks it seems. Wow...fabulous weekly picks, I truly enjoy seeing them, and even though haven't 'played' much lately I do take a weekly peek at the 'picks'! I am playing for 'C' only as I don't have the exact die you have used, but one very similar, which I need to use! I have a little something I am sending you (and I mean it is little...lol) and it is for you, but if you find you don't want/need it or already have it, then feel free to add it to your prizes...it will go out this week....have a great week!
ReplyDeleteA gorgeous card this week Di, I love the horse stamps you've used. I'm playing for fun this, good luck to all those playing for a chance at the prizes.
ReplyDeleteSue xx
Great multi fold card with those floating panels! Great picks this week, as always!
ReplyDeleteWow, what a largie post for this week's playground. Really enjoyed every bit of it!
ReplyDeleteLove, love, love your creation. Those floating panels look stunning. I was actually not going to participate this week (because I don't have any card ready) but once I saw all the prizeSSSS, I think I must make something quick to join -- and yes please for all of them, if I make it in time.
Thank you so much for picking my card from last week to be showcased. I am very honored to join those fabulous-looking creations from everyone else.
Hugs,
Eemeli
Yay! I made it! So happy to be able to join in this week (and still, yes please for all of the prizes, lol)
DeleteHi Di! Wonderful card again. Congratulations on your 250th Challenge. I would like to be put into the draw for ALL prizes please.
ReplyDeleteHave a lovely day, Valerija
So glad to see you back Di, but glad you had a wonderful crafty time! I'm sure you are equal parts wishing you were still off playing, and happy to be home. The picks are absolutely amazing as always, with so many stunning designs! Yes please to the prizes, although I have my doubts that I could make as spectacular a card as you did!
ReplyDeleteSorry to hear your back is playing up again Di - could it be anything to do with your game of "tip toe through the cow pats", I wonder? Glad you agreed with my picks, and yours for this week are wonderful. I hadn't realised how difficult it would be when there is no restriction of theme or style so you have to choose between so many wonderful creations! It's not like comparing things that are broadly similar is it?
ReplyDeleteWell done on your 250th week of the playground and your beautiful card. I'd love to be in the hat for any or all of the prizes please
Jane
Missed you Miss!
ReplyDelete250??? Congratulations.
Popped in JFF this week as it's been so long since I've been here. Hope Parsnip has been good and is looking after you and your sore back. xx
Congrats on your 250th challenge!! That is a HUGE accomplishment ... and a lot of work! And you've made a beautiful card to celebrate Di. xx
