Reminded by Carol L's 'pick' last week. I revisited the Fractured Card 'technique' the other day:
I used:
- 5.5" x 4.25" white card blank, side opening
- a snippet of white card covered with a piece of patterned paper from the really lovely Honey Bee 'Make It Merry' paper pad
- trimmed the panel to measure an eighth of an inch less than the card blank on all four sides as the base and set it to one side
- die cut a snippet of the same white card using a 2" Heffy Doodles 'Stitched Squares' die ready for the sentiment
- I die cut a 4" square 'jig' with a scrap of card and die cut the centre portion out using the same 2" stitched square die turned to sit with the points facing top. bottom and the two sides
- stamped 'MERRY and BRIGHT' using a sentiment from Penny Black's 'Yuletide Wishes' set of stamps and a VersaFine Clair 'Shady Lane' ink pad - and the mini Misti
- glued the sentiment die cut onto the front panel of patterned papera further piece of the same paper
- cut four quarter inch wide strips of a snippet of plain green paper from the same pad as the patterned paper came from - always a good way to match colours
- then, one at a time I used a glue pen to glue them from a corner of each side of the sentiment panel, right down to the edge patterned layer
- flipped the paper covered panel over and trimmed off the 'overhanging bits'
- adhered the completed panel onto the card blank using narrow foam strips - finished! Sorry, no photo of the white and green snippets I used
I'd like to enter this card into the following challenges:
- Christmas Kickstart #88 - 'Festive Frames' (I hope the Fractured technique counts as forming a frame around the sentiment panel)
- Allsorts Challenge Week 788 - under the 'Anything goes' option.
Dudley Pupdate: Dudley has been a proper little pickle this past week! We had a guy here doing some regular maintenance work and the little scamp decided that he would make a good Mum to his puppies if you get my drift. Oh the shame of it - so determined was Dudley that he even skipped away from a treat as I was trying to close him in the craft room with me! Luckily the chap could see the funny side of it.
Then, I went to have my hair chopped and there was a sweet little dog in the salon so of course I made a fuss of him. When I got home Dudley was very excited as always - practically breaking the front door down. But not long after my arrival he 'really' sniffed my leg and he probably picked up Teddy's whiff, froze, glared and stalked off to bury his head under Len's pillow .... showing his bottom to us - purely to demonstrate that he was in a 'strop'!! I tell you - it's like having Kevin The Teenager living here!!
Remember, I've just kicked off a new challenge over in the Snippets Playground HERE.
Hope to see you on the swings, the weather is up and down at the moment - so perhaps the seesaw would be a better choice? Corny, I know.
Love as always, Dudley Dog and me
A lovely fractured card Di, the design is so effective and one I keep promising myself to try. The berry DP gives s perfect seasonal feel.

Lovely card Di, sweet paper, and an expertly made fractured card. Oh dear Dudley in the dog house then, now nicknamed Kevin 😂, and you’re right about the seesaw! Xxx
ReplyDeleteSuper card. This technique is well worth revisiting and reading your description it would appear you've come up with a simpler way compared to the method I followed - one to remember. Sounds as if teenager Dudley has kept you on your toes this week, bless him 🤣
ReplyDeleteLove your fractured Christmas card Di. I’ve yet to try this technique out - so thanks for the reminder and the “how to”.
ReplyDeleteYour card looks great in traditional colours.
Naughty Dudley aka Kevin!!! Xxx
Brilliant design Di, clever technique and very effective.
ReplyDeletePauline xx
Thanks for using my card to inspire you to use this technique. It's a great way to make use of those strips of cardstock and I love the card you've made today. Those papers are so pretty and I love the stitched square you used for the sentiment too. Dudley should have his own video series - he's a hoot!
ReplyDeleteThis is a lovely card Di the layout is brilliant as is the Christmas paper used nice sentiment too xx
ReplyDeleteSuper fractured card Di, and a great way of using snippets. Thank you for joining in the Allsorts Challenge this week.
ReplyDeleteI agree with Carol L, Dudley should have his own video channel.

Ha ha!! For a moment there I thought blogger wasn't gonna let me comment!! Fooled him!! Love the card Di and I still haven't tried this technique. Might have to give it a go. Drowning here. What happened to summer?? Take care. Hugz
ReplyDeleteA fabulous fractured card Di, such beautiful paper and thanks for the step by step on how you realized it.
ReplyDeleteYour Dudley story with the maintenance guy made me laugh so much!! :D My furry teenager friend has high hormones lately, huh? LOL :D
But not a surprise he is jealous of you, you don’t have to touch any puppies except him, because you are his Mum! :)
Hugs and lots of cuddles to Kevin! :D LOL
This fractured card technique looks wonderful Di, and I love the pine branches and berries dp with the rich green for the surround to the central offset square and love that pretty swirly font of the stamped sentiment...a fabulous card. Dudley's funny little tantrums always make me laugh, he is such a character! x
ReplyDeletePopped back to thank you so much for sharing with us at Allsorts challenge this week.

Lovely card, as ever, Di
ReplyDeleteDudley certainly keeps you 'on your toes', and well entertained!
Blessings
Maxine
Your card is gorgeous, Di! Works as a 'frame' for me, and is such a clever way to use Snippets. Love it! When we had our cat, Custard, he used to grump and strop if I ever came home smelling of another cat or even worse a DOG. They are such fun, aren't they. Thanks so much for joining Leslie and me at Christmas Kickstart, Jo x
ReplyDeleteHi Di ...... I got a message from Melanie, I have replied via Messenger and E-mail xxxx
ReplyDeleteHi Helen! Do please introduce me to the mysterious Melanie. Keep me in the picture, have sent you and email hun. Di xx
DeleteTypo should have been AN email!! I need my new specs pronto.
DeleteI keep meaning to try this technique. Yours is so pretty. Maybe I will now I've seen your instructions. You don't want me on the seesaw, it won't get off the ground lol! Lovely to see you at Allsorts.
ReplyDeleteI challenge you Lynn - regarding seesaws I suspect I could give you a run for your money! Try the technique. it's fun and very easy. Just be sure to do the actual fractured part and snipping off the overhanging pieces of strips before attaching it to an underneath layer - sigh, ask me how I know! x
DeleteBeautiful card Di, that's such a clever layout to show off your pretty paper!
ReplyDeleteAwww poor Dudley, bet that was a surprise for your workman hahaha
Beautiful design paper for this festive card, thanks for sharing at Allsorts this week.

Anything that makes a breeze would be welcome with the heat we've been having! At least it's cooler now. Sorry to have been absent. Enjoyed the Dudley update, of course! He is a little stinker! I've never made a fractured card, but I do really love the look! That paper is so beautiful! Hope you're all well. Sending big hugs, Greta
ReplyDeleteOhhh, I've been meaning to make some fractured cards to use up a bit of patterned paper. I love how it frames your sentiment. Pretty paper! Thank you for sharing with Jo and me at Christmas Kickstart!
ReplyDeletereally great technique, I must try it. such a great effect and so beautiful.
ReplyDeleteAnd I love reading about Dudley - I have just noticed that our dog Emma and Dudley were born quite the same time (our is in September 2018), so we are preparing to all the teenagers in our house :).
crafty hugs xx
