Birthday Celebrations!

The Snippets Playground is celebrating 11 years since I took on the running of it from dear Jules. Where did the time go?

We have a new challenge (with a theme) in the Playground plus a great prize to celebrate. Hop over HERE to visit our Sarn who is running the challenge, and also to find out more.

I made a snippets Birthday card:

Started out with a bunch of snippets, left over from recent cards I've made

I used:

- 5.5" x 4.25" white card blank, tent style

- a snippet/panel of 5.25" x 4" black card, glued onto the card front

- snippet of white card, trimmed to 5" x 3.75"

- then cut lots of 'Happy Birthday' die cuts using a sentiment die from the NBUS Altenew 'Essential Sentiment Strips Die Set' and three different colours of card snippets

- used a glue pen to create a sort of 'brick wall' background with the die cuts. I worked from the top down and then from the bottom up in order to leave a gap just below the centre of the card

- filled the gap with a snippet of black card trimmed down to fit snugly

- then used a 'celebrate' die from the Paper Smooches 'Birthday Wishes' set of dies and a snippet of the red card to cut the scroll script word. That was quite tricky as the sentiment falls into four pieces when it's actually die cut....grrrrr.

- to get around the placement I used a piece of white card which was longer and wider then the space I needed it to fit into and taped the surrounding part (waste) from the die cut in place as a 'template' then carefully added the letters back into the slots using a glue pen, before removing the red 'waste and gluing a second set of the letters on top for more dimension

- trimmed the white panel to size and glued it in place

-  then added the whole panel to the card front using Collall All Purpose glue

- something was missing, so I added a few gold star Josy Rose Hot Fix nail heads

Phew - once again, I potentially bit off more than I could chew as all the die cutting, even using my baby Altenew machine, then the gluing and snipping the sides took ages! The card is destined for Len's G. Nephew Edward later this month - for once I'm a bit ahead of myself!

I'd like to enter this card into Darnell's NBUS Challenge #46 - the set of Altenew dies are NBUS.

I'm conscious that my last three cards have used very similarly coloured snippets - time for a total change for my next offering!

Dudley is fed up with all the rain we've been having - same as most of us I expect. I suppose at least, so far, it isn't snow! It's a dull and gloomy afternoon as I'm typing this and Dudley is cosied up in one of his favourite spots - under my corner desk with his nose pressed up against my slipper. I'm tempted to get under there with him for a nice snuggle!

Love from Dudley and me,

  1. A great masculine card Di - love your colours and snippets use!! Don't blame Dudley for getting sick of the rain - it's a bit like that here, and it's supposed to be summer!

  3. Wow, such creative way to use your birthday sentiment die, love so much the brick-wall effect, it's so cool and interesting with the different colours!! And a great way to use scraps and stripes! Thanks for the inspiration! You have had a lot of patience with "celebrate", but the effect with its dimension and the stars is just perfect! No one would know if you didn’t say!!
Today is raining also here, but it isn't cold.
Cuddles to the boy and big hugs to you :D I inverted the recipients just for a change LOL :D

  7. How I LOVE this great birthday card you made! Such perfect placement of all those die-cuts makes for one fabulous card! Just perfect to celebrate any birthday, including your own 11th year of keeping the playground open! Congratulations and a good snuggle with Dudley sounds perfect for a gloomy, rainy day! We've been having gloomy days here lately too unfortunately! Waiting for a little sunshine here myself!

  8. Fabulous card Di. I always struggle with men's cards and those lovely colours again too. Our 2 little boys are never very keen for walks when it's wet so I can understand Dudley being fed up :) xx

  10. Your card is awesome Di. The new rule is going to be a challenge but also a blessing I think. How many times am I going to forget to take a pic of my snippets and have to make yet another snippets card bwwahahaahhahahaaaaa. Your snippets are also much neater and bigger than a lot of mine. Maybe I'm mad but sometimes I play with the fiddliest bits. Hugz

  11. Congrats on your 11 year anniversary. So awesome. Glad you have Sarn helping open and close the gates. It's a lot of work to run a challenge and that you did it alone for so long and all the prizes as well is amazing. That's not the right word. People really don't realise the effort that goes on behind the scenes. Thank You. Lots. Hugz

  13. Happy 11th Snippets Playground Blogoversary my friend. The time has flown by!

LOVE your die-cut "brick wall" card. Lots of patience needed, but a FAB result.

I think I'll join you and Dudley under the desk . . . after a teeny tiny bit of sunshine first thing, it's now wet, grey and VERY windy! Ugh!

    Big hugs xxxx

  15. Congratulations on your 11th blogoversary and thank you for your dedication to the challenges. Fab bold, colourful card shared. I bought that Altenew die set last week, and may even own that Paper Smooches die, so I may well borrow your design in the near future! I hope the new year is off to a great start for you and that 2023 is another year of happy crafting.

  16. I love your card and the bright primary colors you've been using, Di, especially on these dreary rainy days! (Yes, rain even here!) And I'm so glad I scrolled back and saw the photos of the two besties dancing in the drive. I couldn't stop looking at them and smiling! Just so dang cute! Congratulations on your 11th Blogaversary! You - and your challenge - are well-loved and inspirational. In fact, thank you for inspiring everyone at NBUS! Happy New Year Hugs! Darnell

  19. Congratulations Di, that is some amount of challenges, a huge amount of commenting and dear knows how many trips to the Post Office with all your packages of goodies!!!
Great card - I was studying it before I read your text thinking it must have taken an absolute age to get all your strips placed so perfectly!!
Woof from Molly to Dudley, she's looking forward to drier walking weather too!

  21. That is a long time to blog & so glad you're continuing on, Di! My goodness--what a wonderful card! More time than I'm usually willing to spend, but the result is amazing! Fritz has adjusted to the rain & I don't have to bribe him to go out in the yard unless it's a downpour. So sweet Dudley likes to snuggle under your desk while you work.

  22. Congratulations on 11 years of running the challenge Di and what a really generous prize to celebrate! This is a terrific card for Len's Great Nephew, and a great idea to cover the background with the different coloured sentiment strips, and then the white centre with another lovely die cut sentiment, also the added gold stars are a great finishing touch. I think Dudley is not alone in being totally fed up with all the rain we have been having. I just hope it becomes more settled soon before we all develop webbed feet...lol. x
