A thank you card

I wanted to send a card to a friend and, when I won a prize over in one of her challenges recently, it was perfect timing! It's to say 'Thanks' both for the prize and also for her generosity with prizes for the Snippets Playground toy box.

As often happens - I hit problems along the way - but I do include how I 'fixed' them below:

I wonder if this is familiar? For a long time the recipient, Brenda of 'Floral Fantasies' had dancing poppies as her blog header - and this card was made, using my prize from Allsorts, with that happy image in mind.

I used:

- 5.5" x 4.25" white linen card, side opening

- snippet of the same card to cut the 'frame' using a die from a NBUS set of dies by MFT called 'Stitched Rectangle Scallop Edge Frame' and set it to one side for later

- then, the fun began. My lovely prize from Allsorts was an IndigoBlu stamp called 'Wild Flowers' - which I adore. I stamped it using Memento 'Tuxedo Black' ink onto a carefully selected and very lovely gently coloured rainbow piece of paper from a paper pad by Honey Bee called 'Team Tie Dye'. Sigh, and then I got a smudge of ink just a bit above the image, even using the Misti. Totally my own fault!

- having got that far I plodded on and dug out another co-ordinating piece of paper from the same paper pack, which luckily uses the same shade of yellow, to use for the upper part of the card

- fussy cut around the top of my stamped image then glued it below the upper background piece

- used a red Pro marker to colour in the poppies

- stamped the sentiment using Memento 'Tuxedo Black' and a stamp from the Sweet Dixie set called  'Big Sentiments'

- cut the image panel to the size I wanted and then glued the image onto the back of the 'frame'

- then just glued the image, already glued within the frame, onto the card front onto the card front (don't that sound easy?!)

- final touch - some of Lucy's Little Things 'Raindrop' gems

I'd been hunting for some stitched rectangle frames with the smaller scallops for ages! Talk about doing a full scale search of the internet.

I'd like to enter this card into Darnell's NBUS Challenge #38 for May. A first outing for the frame dies.

Also, at 'We Love Stamping' Challenge for May (For a lady or girl).

And, also over at 'Stamping Sensations' Challenge for May (AG with the option of floral and fauna)

Phew, three challenges once again. The Playground always comes first but it's so good to have the time to play more - thanks to Sarn!

And, speaking of Sarn - remember to hop over to the Playground to see her post for today, with the picks and also the result of the prize draw - HERE.

Dudley has been pretty well behaved this week. He's very interested in anything that needs to be unpacked or opened. It's a bit like having a doggy quality control inspector in the house!

As always, his beloved Honka Duck is never very far away from him:

I was bending down in front of him to take this photo. Dudley was in a world of his own, spreadeagled on the floor with Honka in his mouth. His eyes were half open but even when I asked nicely, he wasn't gonna look up and say 'Hello'. Sorry 'bout that!

Ha - just wait until he has to pose nicely wearing his Jubilee bandana in a couple of weeks time. I know, ain't gonna happen knowing Dudley Dog!

Other plans are under way and Sarn has already come up with a suggestion for a special cocktail for the occasion - hic!

  1. Love the way you used that wild flowers stamp with the beautiful paper despite the smudge you got - great recovery!! Dudley and his Honka duck remind me of my previous English cocker - he had a toy tiger that he always had with him.

  2. Yes indeed I have seen this really pretty card before Di, in fact it hangs on the rail across my craft desk at this very moment and in sight of where I am sitting typing on my computer.

It's so nice to see prizes being used, even nicer being at the receiving end and to see it at Stamping Sensations and We Love Stamping May challenges, thank you.

There are still Poppies dancing on my blog header, albeit a little larger than the previous ones. We have a Poppy bed in the garden and the first one is out this morning, a standard red one, the Orientals are a few weeks away but showing good growth.

B x (X from Poppy, Holly and Daisy and an extra X from Rosa, I have a feeling those two would get on well)

  3. Oooh, your card is so beautiful Di! I saw that you had won at Allsorts, and you certainly did that stamp set proud with this project. The red poppies against the soft shades of the background are so striking. I can only imagine how your heart sank when you realized that ink smudged, but what a save! You would never know that you had to cut around the image and layer. The results are perfect, but I know it must have taken a lot more time. Worth it though, right?!!
As for Dudley, I think he's even cuter with his head down and Honka Duck firmly held so no one can sneak him away.

  4. That was a great st\amp to win and it works well within the very nice stitched frame. Shame you had some problems with the stamping but.it seems you found the perfect solution - one to remember 'just in case'. Pleased to hear you are having a bit more time for your own crafting now that you have some help with the Playground challenge.

  8. At first glance you can’t even see it is two pieces. It is a very pretty card. I especially like the look of the background! I also like the tiny scallops quite a bit. I don’t have anything quite like that die. Lovely work!

  9. A lovely card Di! I'm having trouble commenting on Snippets blog, It keeps wanting me to sign in to Google even though I'm signed in when I'm on Ipad, and on PC it just won't let me type anything, but I'll keep trying!

    1. Hi Sue - how strange. Nothing has changed so I'm a bit lost. I do know that a few folk have issues commenting from their Ipad - but they can comment from their laptop or PC. I'll have a think but don't hold out much hope of coming up with an answer. Have you tried signing out and then signing back in when you're on the laptop/computer? Almost to reset things if that makes sense. Can you get into your own blog OK and set up a post without any trouble? Eeek - bit stumped. Di xx

    2. I’ve been having trouble, being asked to sign in on Safari, however if I do it via Chrome, no problem! Doesn’t happen all the time, another of life’s techy mysteries! Xxx

  16. This is just lovely, when I saw it I immediately thought of Brenda's cards and now I know why. This is a great take on her style. I love that background. I am glad you found the scalloped frame dies you were looking for. I was hoping they were going to be for A6, but I see they are A2, never mind. I am getting used to making A2 or A6 depending on the dies I have. Great save on the card and what amazing fussy cutting, I didn't notice it at first xx

    1. Hi Hilary! So pleased you spotted the connection with Brenda - she's a super star and infinitely kind as well. I do keep my eyes open for A6 dies as I know your quest. I think the USA are ahead of us in that game and, I do (confess) prefer the 'balance' of their A2 versus our A6 cards. You get used to it over time. My only problem is sourcing the A2 envelopes - it's possible and I have a couple of links if you wish (drop a direct email to me on Pixies)- but - as expected due to being imported, even if you buy from the UK - they do take up more pocket money! I do so wish I was still full of energy and the get up and go not to overcharge UK buyers for USA products. You need to shop around - and then really compare costs versus your longing to have something very recently released. If only we could catch up here in the UK! Di xxx
