Pixie's Snippets Playground - Challenge #378 - results

Another fun filled week has flown past. A lot of it has been taken up with changing over our big upright freezer for a new one. Just about the worst possible timing when it began to show signs of becoming unreliable. Len nursed it like a baby, using temperature monitors and an alarm/ receiver which was kept within our earshot. It was limping alright but still just within safety margins so long as it had a daily boost from the fast freeze setting. Thankfully - after a lot of searching - we found a compatible replacement which arrived, along with social distancing, on Tuesday. Needless to say, some suppliers are out of freezers right now - apparently some people even rushed out and bought two at a time when the pandemic was looming! After swapping stuff from the old to the new freezer - I'd also been lucky enough to find a different company who will happily collect and dispose of appliances even if you haven't bought from them. That made the swap over much less stressful - and cost us no more than if we'd asked the new supplier to take away the old freezer when they delivered the new one. If that makes sense - what a mouthful! So that was done on Friday and a huge sigh of relief was breathed here I can tell you!

Of course, the weather has now changed and it's noticeably cooler - with patchy rain, which we desperately need. But much of the freezer hassle took place when temperatures were soaring - it's known as 'Murphy's Law' - to be polite!

Let's move straight into this fortnight's picks - with two *Gold Star* picks first of all:
I love this card - made by Karthikha. It really makes me smile and how clever to make a 'honeycomb cell' into a shaker element! Absolutely everything about it is perfect from the hexagons echoing honeycomb cells and the lovely colours - not to mention the adorable little bee!

This card, made by Karen L, stopped me in my tracks as well. It's so perfectly designed and made (cleverly using a coffee cup sleeve) that it's a sure fire 'Gold Star' winner. I just love how beautifully everything goes together in what seems such an effortless way - yet it will certainly have taken a lot of thought and care. Love it!

Very well done Karthikha and Karen - please feel free to take the *Gold Star* badge from my right hand side bar and add it to your own blogs.

Val brought this card along to share with us - I picked it because it's so striking, a great example of 'Less is More' and just shows what can be done with one black snippet for that eye catching roofline.

Becca brought this card to share - and I love how she used patterned papers throughout - even the Memory Box 'Prim Poppy' die cuts are on softly patterned paper. Lovely work!

And last, but not least, how about another great idea for using up snippet strips?  Carol G made this great card - and the 'randomness' of it is so much more effective than totally even placement. Very clever - and of course similar cards can be made for any occasion.

So, that's my picks and I do hope they've given you some inspiration for ways in which you can use up some of your own snippets.

We had 48 entries in total, with no new Playmates this time round.

Now for the prize draw, which is for a Lil'Inker 'Just Sayin' set of sentiment stamps. And the winner is:

Happy Dance here Kath as am sure it's quite a while since you had a win - despite being one of our most regular playmates! Please send me your address, with your full name at the top as well so I can copy and paste or just write straight from the email onto the envelope - for speed and ease. It's also confirmation that you still would like the prize of course and I'll post your prize later this coming week. Please put Playground Winner or similar in the subject line of your email in case it drops into my junk mail. Email address is on RH sidebar as always.

Remember folks, there's still almost another week to run on Challenge #379 - you can find it HERE. The prize is a Lawn Fawn Shammy to clean your stamps with - and there are three of these on offer.

I managed to post off all UK prizes this past week and am happy that the post box I used is secluded enough that I can park easily and don't need to 'mingle'. I'm also working on the Royal Mail 'Click and Drop' option so I can calculate and print overseas postage labels (thanks for the reassurance that it's easy once you find your way around it Kath - that made me more determined than ever to crack it). I'll let you know once stuff is on the way. There's a risk attached in that I won't have Proof of Posting if anything goes astray so won't be able to replace any lost prizes - but, it would be a first in the Playground so I'm happy to take that risk if you are.

Dudley is looking especially smart right now, having had a bath one day this past week. As usual, we got a good soaking along with him! He's always so white and fluffy for at least 24 hours - until he decides to go foraging or digging in the garden! And, the local grooming salon I used to take him to is open again for business. So, he has an appointment for a full grooming session and trim in a couple of weeks time. It's very much controlled needless to say but I'm just so happy he's booked in.

No new photos of him right now though - sorry. He's currently 'in concert' - eyes closed on the sofa in Len's study, Stinky Monkey by his side, listening to Len play the guitar.

I've been using the new Blogger interface to write this post - but had to switch back to the old one now and then as some things just aren't right or are perhaps too intuitive in the new interface. I don't think switching back and forth in the same post is a good idea so I lost a few lot of things and am now resolutely plodding on in the new interface. AS a result have had to almost write this post twice over. I'm just hoping this publishes as planned and makes sense!

I've slipped a bit on commenting on the current Playground Challenge but hope to catch up ASAP!

Love from Parsnip, a happy wave and woof from Dudley - and of course hugs as always from me. Stay safe - and keep on crafting.

  1. Morning Di, lovely picks today and lots if inspiration as well, which is what I need at the moment. I too keep switching between the two interfacing as I cannot work out quite how to do everything on the new one. Oh well everyday is a school day.

  2. A lovely surprise to spot my card amongst the picks this time - thanks so much and well done to the two gold star winners. Good that you got your freezer problem sorted - always quite a 'faff' to swap things from ole to new and acquiring the new must be more difficult at present. Take care

  4. Well done on the marathon freezer swap, sounds like you did the most practical thing in giving yourselves time to set up and swap too.

Congratulations to Kath on the win this time around, lovely picks in post too.

Just wanted to say a big thank you - my prize arrived safely and has even been inked!!

Have to say I'm struggling with getting to grips with the new blogger too and, whilst I've found ways round most things, following links in blogs now adds an extra step as bloggers asks "are you sure?"!!! I do like some elements of the improved blogger though - hope we all get used to it as it's going to be rolled out to all by the end of June - GOOD LUCK

    Happy Sunday, stay well

  6. Great picks and congrats to the 2 gold star winners and Kath for her prize win.

Not sure about the new style blogger . . . don't think labelling is as easy as before and don't like the "redirect" pages when you click on a reading list option. Do like seeing the thumbnail picture of drafted posts.

    Happy Sunday everyone.

    Hugs, Sarn xxx

  13. Congrats to Kath and the top picks. I got the impression that if you tried the new one and reverted back that you would be able to keep it after they swap over, but maybe I am reading wrong. Hugz

  17. Thank you so much for including my card in your top picks Di! It was a fun one to make, and the closest I'll get to a vacation this summer. All of the picks are just gorgeous, and an excellent use of snippets. Your challenges always get my mind working on different ways to use all those scraps that seem to accumulate at an alarming pace.

Our area is slowly opening up as well, but I'm taking it slow. Pet groomers are open, but hair salons are not. So...I continue on, getting shaggier and shaggier until it's hard to tell the difference between me and my dog, Toby.

    Stay well!
