Things were conspiring against me when I realised that I hadn't made a Christmas card for my entry. Lagging a bit behind on my monthly totals, I whipped up four the same in double quick time but they're embarrassingly simple so I do feel a bit of a fraud.
- tall slim deep red slightly metallic card blank
- a topper from a load made by KanBan that I found in a box (years old!) whilst looking for something else, just glued in place. In real life the turquoise is a lovely shiny metallic finish
- the sentiment was a long repetitive strip on the sheet of toppers, so I just snipped it into sections, trimmed one edge and then also glued that in place
Even with such a simple card (how I started out on the card making journey many years ago) I did forget to do one thing! It doesn't show much in real life but the camera picks up every little detail - I would normally have run a matching marker around the edge of the topper and also the sentiment strip - just so the white 'core' of the card doesn't show. If you try this, make sure you use just normal markers (I use some very old Whispers pens) - Pro markers and such tend to bleed and might well ruin your topper!

These may be simple cards but very eye-catching nevertheless. Love that you have hints and tips as usual - it's all in the detail!
ReplyDeleteI don't think you should feel fraudulent just because you made a simple card mate . . . it looks great and the recipient will love it. Let's face it, even if we do elaborate cards, if they're sent to a non-card-maker, they have no clue how long it took to make! I think you should feel proud of it (and the others you made in the batch).

Fab quick card Di...why do we feel guilty for using what we started out with? I have a stash too...it's just that things and we have developed I guess...! Dig out some more and add to your cards...I have 0 made...lol

It doesn't matter how long one takes to make a card or how quick we make them, all that matters is the beauty and message it conveys. And I think these 4 that you have made are a winner! This is such a pretty card...and four is fantastic! The toppers are such wonderful things. I have been using quite a few toppers lately and enjoy the easy of them. They are no stress and fairly quick...what could be better when time is rushed or hands are sore!
ReplyDeleteI like your tip about the ink swipe to the edges of the cut items to hide the white. I usually do it too, but every now and again I forget. Funny how the camera always reminds us. I had to smile when I read your post about that!

Lucky you to find such pretty VOS in your stash. It made up into such a pretty card with the graceful ornaments combined with the red frame. Brilliant design idea on the sentiment too. No one will notice you didn't swipe to cover the edge if you don't point it out. They will just think "What a beautiful card"! TFS & Hugs. (the camera shows a lot more than the eye sees!)

ReplyDeleteSuch pretty baubles. Cards don't need to be complicated to be good. In fact I think some are too over loaded at times. So don't apologise for keeping it simple. I have had a house full of visitors with more to come, so I am playing catch-up today while I can. Kate xx
