The cards were finished and sitting on my desk waiting for me to write this blog post when I spotted that Bonnie had made a 'not totally dissimilar' card HERE. Bonnie used stamping but it shows that I could be 'on trend' as they say - that would be a first for me!
I made four cards, all the same design and two of them have the backing frame and 'Noel' in gold with the tree in silver - and the other two have the metallics reversed. I like both versions but for some reason the ones with the frame in gold just seem to stand out more - possibly as the frame is 'stronger' in gold than silver:
I used:
- 4.25" x 5.5" white card blank, tent style
- piece of mirri card trimmed smaller than the card front and glued in place
- piece of white card, die cut using a die from the Lil' Inkers 'Stitched Rectangles' set - and then kept to one side
- then die cut the tree using a NBUS Tim Holtz Sizzix die called 'Woodlands' and either gold or silver metal effect adhesive sheet made by X-Cut, a dream to use
-also die cut the word 'noel' using a Poppystamps 'Noel Snowflake' die and either gold or silver mirri adhesive sheet as above
- then placed the tree and the sentiment (I snipped the dangling snowflake off the sentiment for this card) onto the piece of die cut white card and ran it through the Cuttlebug, using the embossing plates and an embossing folder as a 'shim'
- glued the white card layer onto the card front, already nicely decorated with the tree and sentiment
I've had the Sizzix tree dies for ages (comes in a set of two, the one I used is slightly narrower than the other one) and of course now I can't understand why it's taken so long! Love them!
As I've said before, running the piece of card through the Cuttlebug after the die cut pieces were put in place really 'sets' them and also gives a beautiful finish with mirri card or this X-Cut adhesive sheet in particular, almost as if the card has been foiled.
These are absolutely gorgeous Di! I love the elegance of white and gold together!

These are very elegant Di, what a super design. I agree re photographing...but you have done a great job.It looks like the sun might be making a return today...how dreary it's been this week! I even made some halloween bits as it felt more like autumn! Hugs xxx

ReplyDeleteLucky you, we have had wet mornings and afternoons but strangely enough the sun has appeared around 5 p.m. for a couple of hours but it has brought the cold wind with it, what is going on. Someone said to me today "well it looks like Mother Shipton was right, she said that the seasons would all roll into one, didn't realise that Mother Shipton was a for seer of the future, thought she just lived in a cave.

Gorgeous tree, love it in both the silver and gold, great idea to mix the mirri card and a fab CAS/LIM creation. This has endless possibilities, you could mix red and green and even use blue mirri card or your can just do the same card in just one colour of mirri card. A great purchase, should get your money's worth from this die Di.

Oh gosh, I recall Old Mother Shipton's Cave! Went online to read about it as I recalled that Paul Daniels was a part owner many years ago. In the part about the petrifying well it says it takes between 2 and 5 months to petrify a teddy bear. I just did it in one second flat by jumping out from behind a door and shouting 'Boo' at Parsnip! Snigger. x
