Pixie's Snippets Playground - Week 265 and 266

We're baaaaack, safe and sound and fully refreshed for the rest of the Winter. Had clear blue skies and sunshine all the way - until it clouded over on Thursday morning, just  before we left for the flight back home. How lucky was that then?! This is to prove we weren't just sitting in front of the fire at home - not good enough to be a post card but hopefully good enough to show part of the Old Town of Albufeira and one of the fabulous wide beaches :

And here's my snippets card for this fortnight - thankfully I found time to make it before we zoomed off on holiday:
I used:

- 4.25" x 5.5" white card blank

- snippet of deep pink card from the snippets folder trimmed to an eighth of an inch all round less than the card front

- at the same time I die cut an oval out of the pink card (a neat way of gutting it as I wanted to use some of the pink card for the camper van)

- glued the panel in place on the card front then die cut another oval from white card and popped that into the place I'd 'gutted'. As the next layer was to be paper rather than card it made sense to level the surface off :)

- added a snippet of Pink Petticoat's 'Wild Blossoms' collection paper on top of the deep pink layer. Love this paper pad as it really is so 'retro'

- then stamped the sentiment onto a snippet of white card using Memento 'Tuxedo Black' ink and stamps from the fabulous and very quirky Avery Elle 'Handwritten Notes' stamp set

- I had huge fun making the 'camper van' using snippets of pink, grey and blue card along with a Sizzix die set called 'Let's Travel'

- added a tickle of clear 'Wink of Stella' to all the 'glass'

- die cut the white panel from a snippet, using a Lil' Inkers 'Stitched Rectangles' die and glued it onto the card front

- used a pale grey Pro marker to 'ground' where the van would sit

- glued the camper van onto the panel and called it done!

One tip - the die set comes in four pieces. I die cut an additional 'full' back panel in grey to sit behind the pale pink panel. First I stuck the front bumper in place onto the pale pink panel and then I trimmed the pale pink tyres off before adding the grey panel behind. Pink tyres just did not look right to me - the way it was shown on the packet!

I'm entering this into Darnell's current NBUS (Never Before Used Schtuff) challenge #8 - by the skin of my teeth. I haven't had time to go with the possible themes so hope this is OK?!

As I explained last Sunday, I'm keeping my picks back for a week to make life easier for me - the same with the Random draw for the prize.

This coming fortnight's prize is:
A Sizzix 'Let's Travel' die set (see those pink tyres?!) plus an Avery Elle 'Handwritten Notes' sentiments stamp set. Not the best of photos I'm afraid though. To see the sentiments properly try looking HERE. If you run the mouse over the image then the words become quite clear - great fun to play with and they do stamp absolutely beautifully in real life as well!

The Snippets Challenge will run for two weeks from now on (as I explained a week ago) and the Playground gates will close at 11am UK time on Saturday 4th February. The gates will open again at midnight UK time on the same day.

It's still a maximum of ONE entry and please say in a comment if you wish to play and be a possible winner of the prize. I will split the prize if anyone has a burning desire for just one of the items but truly think it would make a good pairing. Please also link back to the Playground in your blog post to be eligible for the draw.

Mr Linky is below - please let me know if you have any problems linking, it's easy for me to sort out so don't struggle on alone :)

Important note: if you would like to be a Snippets Guest Designer at some point in the future then please put GD after your name when you link up your entry. If you're too shy to do it publicly, then email me putting GD in the subject line - my email addy is on the RH sidebar. Mind you, I hope the Playground is such a happy and friendly place that no-one will feel shy at openly coming forward.

Be sure to call back next week to see the winner of last fortnight's prize (the shoe die and embossing folder) and my picks from the past two weeks as well!

And can I please finish with one really important and massive observation. Today as I type and finish this (already partly written) post, I cannot even begin to explain the feeling of relief and lack of (self inflicted!!) pressure. The Playground gates have closed, Parsnip is out there in the frost sweeping up and looking for empties (snigger, and wanting a hot chocolate drink when he comes in!). We have 71 entries (hooray for loyalty!) and I can actually breathe properly. I now have a whole week to write up the picks and do the draw for the prize (EF and shoe die) - this is how life really should be, I promise you! :) Thank you all so much for your love and support - MWAH!!

Speaking of bears, we flew with BA on holiday and on the return flight the lady (not a kid either!) sitting in front of Len had the most well loved ancient teddy bear with her. He got to visit the cockpit and all the crew signed a BA post card for him as well as his bear passport! 'Mr Martin', the bear, was very laid back about it all and sat demurely throughout the flight - at one point his paw flopped back between the seats onto Len's knee............ and Len didn't dare move! Snort :)

Have a lovely week! Cold here innit!!??!! Big hugs from Parsnip, who is was out of the sulks already and seemed to have an extra spring in his step which is why I sent him out into the Playground, and of course me..........

And please, don't tell 'himself' about Martin the Bear!

Bet your not so happy to come back to this English weather but we're glad to have you back in charge... that little Parsnip is getting a bit too expensive in bribes since you told him he's worth his weight in gold! Super photo and I walked along that very beach on christmas eve a good few years ago.
Love your super snippets card and the campervan does look so much better with the grey tyres. Will be back later with my snippet make and would love to go in the hat but just for the sentiment stamps xx

  19. Glad you had a lovely time and are refreshed. My blogging break did that for me, also. As for you're Hippie van....I can almost smell the gasoline. PU, they are such stinky beasts. My neighbor has a dark gold VW van that has the pop up camper on the lid. They keep trying to restore it. That is such a great die, and your card is adorable. Wish I did not have to admit that I grew up during it's time. LOL!

  20. What a fabulous card Di and I adore the camper van and your grey tyres do look much better and a great background and sentiment too. I'm so pleased you had a good holiday and I love the photo and it looks beautiful, not somewhere I have been but maybe one day. Glad the new playground arrangments are giving you more time for yourself too. Hubby's brother has a van a bit like this and I am always stuck for a card for him and also other chaps when it is difficult to think of a theme, so with this in mind I am a 'yes please' for the prize this time. x

  23. Hello Di! I'm glad your holiday was relaxing!

Good for you to adjust the Playground schedule so it won't cause stress. Your Volkswagen card is so adorable! I agree about the pink tires. And I know exactly how much you love pink!!

I'm slowly (very) settling in my new place. All the walls are plaster so I haven't hung hardly anything on the walls yet. I'm moving around some furniture today from the living room to my bedroom. Last weekend I rearranged the living room furniture to accommodate the dogs. Humph.

I'm making my second Hello Fresh meal tonight and I hope it's just as easy and taste just as well as the first one.

    Hugs,
    Kay

  26. Welcome home, my friend! You didn't mention anything untoward (another word that makes me want to go look up the origin!) so I'm hoping that means the hols was just what the doctor ordered and you are in the pink of health again! You do sound so happy and relieved about the Playground, which makes us all happy! You should have done it ages ago, but better now than never! Thank you so much for linking your very fun snippets card over at my NBUS Challenge #8! No worries, of course, about not using the optional theme! Mwah! Hugs, Darnell

  29. I'm so glad that you had a wonderful holiday and that the changes you've made to the Playground are going to work much better for you. Isn't it funny how we sometimes get all caught up in rush, rush, rush, until we feel like we're a spinning top? I have to say that I would love to have seen that stuffed bear visiting the cockpit on your flight over! I just love your adorable card and I agree completely about the pink tires. Your version is MUCH better and yes please to that fun prize!

Still open, and additionally got to enjoy a sunshine beach picture, and hear that you all had a holiday. Do hope that Parsnip didn't get any sunburns, and I'm sure he had a grand vacation. Lovely to see so many of my old friends here, and realize, Hey, I've seen their cards in my blog surfing! Hope the warm sunshine will get all of you through the remainder of the cold nasty of winter! TFS & Big hugs - and I HOPE Mr. P. got his chocolate.

  81. I wasn't sure if I had time to make a snippets card this week but my mother came to visit for the weekend and we made cards together, while she babysat my two girls. Yes please to this very fun prize and I'm so glad that you had a great holiday.

  83. So glad you had a good holiday Di, bet you wish you were still there now, as I look out of my window at the gloom and the rain I'm dreaming of some winter sunshine. Had to laugh about Mr Martin Bear on the flight back. Do you think I'd get the same treatment if I took my very elderly and well worn Big Ted onto my next flight??? Perhaps not ...
Great card and fabulous prize, I'd like to join in again please,
    Love Jacky x
