Trying out Brenda's technique

Our lovely blogging buddy Brenda of Friends Craftin' With Friends posted a tutorial on her blog a few weeks ago (the link is just above). It's step by step instructions to make cards very similar to this one, which I made as a result of her inspiration:
I used:

- 4.25" x 5.5" white card blank, tent style

- snippet of deep turquoise card, trimmed to 4" x 5.25" and glued onto the card front

- piece of white card, trimmed to 3.75" x 5"

- then stamped a Uniko Studio 'Gerbera' just off the top left corner, using Memento 'London Fog' ink and at the same time (using the Misti) also stamped the sentiment using the same ink pad and a stamp from the Hero Arts 'Truly Appreciated' set. It's easy to stamp like this using the Misti, just pop a piece of larger paper underneath the piece of card to protect the grid paper/foam layer

- die cut the rectangle, slightly off centre, using a Lil'Inkers 'Stitched rectangles' die measuring approx. 3" x 4.25" and put the resulting 'frame' to one side

- then coloured the gerbera on the central panel using Pro markers

- glued the 'frame' onto the turquoise panel and then glued the coloured 'insert' inside that

- finished off with three yellow sequins, added using Glossy Accents decanted into a Woodware Fine Liner bottle. And the glue and Glossy Accents are still as good as the day I decanted them - and the pins, which I never got round to replacing, haven't rusted at all so all I can think is that Woodware took on board some of the earlier issues and put things right

Do take a look at Brenda's tutorial. As she says, you can pop the coloured panel up on sticky pads if you wish. I decided to quit whilst I was ahead though :)

  20. This technique reminds me of the spotlight technique only with stitching and an inlay. Sine I only have stitched circles I just may have to try it that way. This is a fun card! And inspiring!
