Merry Monday #195 - Buttons

The current challenge over at Merry Monday is 'Buttons'. At first I thought I was stumped, partly as although I do have some buttons in Christmas colours - the cost of large letter stamps gives me the shudders! Then spotted that Bonnie had made her buttons out of card, remembered a little used SU 'Buttons' Embosslits - and away I went. This was the result:
I used:

- 4.75" x 4.75" square white card blank

- snippet of baby blue pearlescent card for the 'frame', trimmed to size

- snippet of white card for the image, stamped using Memento 'London Fog' ink and a stamp from the Woodware set called 'JGCL535 Bubble Wreath' then trimmed to a tiny bit a smaller than the blue 'frame'

- next, using the SU 'Sweet Buttons' Embosslits die I cut some smallish buttons using snippets of blue, mauve and maroon card

- worked out where I wanted them to sit on the wreath by placing them onto the clear stamps and just moving them round until I was happy - at that point thinking I'd pick out various matching Pro Markers to colour the smaller 'bubbles'

- changed mind and coloured the smaller bubbles pink and glued the 'buttons'

- hated the pink but not wanting to waste all that work I just coloured over the pink with Silver Wink of Stella

- gave the 'buttons' a coat of clear Wink of Stella

- die cut the bow using a die from the fabulous Penny Black 'Swirl Wreath' set and 'medium sticky' backed Maroon card snippet and stuck it onto the wreath

Needless to say, the sparkle is lovely in real life!

  1. Oh Di, this card is wonderful! I never use buttons on my cards because they're so hard to adhere, and bulky. These embossed die cut buttons are the perfect solution and your color combo is perfect. I loved reading about your solution to using colors that turned out not to be what you wanted, and it was all worth it in the end

  4. This is so very different die and very inspirational, I always love a crafty wreath.

You were closer than you realised to the gown gaping, it was only after I'd been across the corridor to the loo twice than a nurse can and showed me there was a side look to pull the cord through to protect the modesty !

  7. I love the little buttons and they make such a lovely wreath. I like the colours you landed on too. I always have a few cards marked for local delivery as they are too bulky to post. I try not to make too many though! X

  22. hello Di, thanks for your lovely comment and for the embossing tips. I will definitely check them out xx So, I'll return the favour. As for stamping in a line - i have a large papermania acrylic stamping block that has marked white gridlines on it. it makes lining up your letters so much easier.
Fabulous card and such a clever way to use the button die. xxx
