Pixie's Snippets Playground - Week 217

What a total Godsend it was having Sarn so kindly looking after you last week! The aftermath of the gout session left me with back issues from using the crutches, then walking stick and then limping for weeks. Now that the trotter is more or less fine, the back flared up big time - meaning that time spent at the laptop and desk had to be dramatically curtailed. I can't express how grateful I am to Sarn for her help - even though neither of us expected me to go into Hunchback of Notre Dame mode!

And, what a terrific job Sarn did as well - a huge gold star for sure! AND, bless her little cotton socks, she's volunteered to continue for this coming week to give me a fighting chance of recovering. Thank you so much Sarn, I owe you - BIG TIME! Please go HERE to see Sarn's really darling snippets card - Parsnip has fallen in love :)

This is my snippets card, which I made in little bursts during the week - literally 20 minutes tops at the desk at a time:
I used:

- 5" x 7" white card blank - short edge opening

- a piece of the same card stock, embossed using the Couture Creations 'Bon Jour' folder then trimmed to just slightly smaller than the card front and glued into place

- next I stamped the 'friend' sentiment using Memento 'Tuxedo Black' ink and a stamp from the fabulous Paper Smooches set called 'Sentiment Sampler'. I LOVE this stamp set - great variety of sentiments in quite funky fonts

- then used a little handful of plain card snippets (green, blue and black), all backed with Stick-It adhesive sheet to die cut the poppy using  a Memory Box die called 'Perky Poppy' and fixed it in place on the embossed layer. I made the poppy blue for a challenge - and also as I quite like the change from red

- tickled the poppy petals with Clear Wink of of Stella

- added one little butterfly, die cut using SU's 'Beautiful Wings' embosslit and a little scrap of blue pearlescent card - topped with a small white pearl

I can't remember if I've said this before, these days I don't buy ready cut 5" x 7" card blanks - but I do love the size (which you can't cut from a 12" sheet of card of course). I now buy ready made 7" x 7" square ones and then chop them down to long edge opening, tent style or short edge opening as required. The offcuts are always handy, I can get three different styles of opening and for me it's the most economical way to work - 5" x 7" envelopes can always be bought online or in local craft shops.

Let's take a 'peek at the picks', as chosen by Sarn of course - and she's picked practically the same entries as I would have chosen! I have been peeking each morning on my tablet in bed whilst having the early morning cuppa - always the best tasting one of the day to me! Here we go:
Sarn said: I chose it because I just love the pretty mix of embroidery and stamping.

Isn't it pretty, made by Elly and I'd have picked this card too! Sarn and I generally sing from the same song sheet :)

Jenny H brought this beauty of a card and Sarn said: This card makes such a lovely Mother's Day card with the lovely die cutting and addition of lace.

Another lovely pick Sarn!

Would you believe that for the next two picks Sarn chose two of our new Playmates - again, choices that I totally agree with too!

Sarn said: This is such a lovely project and I find all the colourful mixed media, embellishments and ribbons really appealing.

This was made by Meena and it really is so pretty!

And finally, this is Sarn's fourth pick of the week. And she said: Loved this fantastic accordion album and tag book. So much detail and very colourful.

Do hop over to Sharada's blog for a peek - the photos inside are just so joyful!

If I'm right, we had five new Playmates this week - if I missed anyone new do email me and I'll showcase you next week (my email addy is on the sidebar). Sarn had already picked out Meena and Sharada as part of her choice this week - so that leaves us with a further three new Playmates to welcome:

546 (1)
Such a pretty card, made by Renata. I love the combination of turquoise and green and such a great design too.

A lovely Birthday card was brought to us by Stefi - great design and such a fun image too. Mia and Livi would love this card as they both ride during the warmer months (right now it's skiing and ice skating, one of the benefits of living in Germany where the seasons are more predictable!).

Butterfly Dream
And finally we had this lovely card from Charlotte (Lady Joyful). I love the bokeh effect and the butterflies are a beautiful addition to such a soft and pretty background.

Out of interest, Charlotte emailed me to say she'd been trying unsuccessfully to comment on last week's post - using Wordpress. If anyone here can help do please hop over to Charlotte's blog - she was trying to use the Wordpress option for commenting but kept being rejected, sigh :(

Hope you all come back to play again really soon!

On the news front, both Sarn and I had independently picked up that Andrea (KandA) is now a proud grandma to the prettiest little baby girl:
Isn't she just adorable? Congratulations from all of us Andrea! And this is the card Andrea made to welcome the new baby, those buttons are from when her daughter (the new Mum) was a baby herself - aw:

Time for the prize draw here now. We had the Woodware 'Wedding Hearts' stamps set - kindly donated by Nina who is the owner of Creativity Cards and Crafts, which is Sarn's local craft shop. And also the Creative Expressions 'Gemini-Cygnus' dies donated by Sarn!

And our winner is:
Well done Val! According to my little book, apart from a small win in the bumper Christmas draw,  Val has only won once before ( in October 2014) - so it was about time too.

I do have your address Val and your prize will be on its way to you as soon as possible.

The Playground prize this coming week is:
Linked to today's snippets card - it's your own Memory Box 'Perky Poppy' die and a Paper Smooches 'Sentiments Sampler' stamp set. Sorry about the light bouncing back, you can see a clearer picture of the stamp set here.

The Snippets Challenge will run for one week and the Playground gates will close at 11am UK time on Saturday 27th February. The gates will open again at midnight UK time on the same day.

I'm trying something new this week! I did some adding up and discovered that out of the 108 entries we had last week - 33 were additional entries within the allowed upper limit of three. So that's almost a third as many again entries to look at and comment on.

As Sarn is being so helpful with the commenting and also due to the recent real upsurge in entries, can I please ask that you only add ONE entry this week. It's wonderful to see so many of you playing along and I don't want to put you off the Playground, but this might just make you stop and ponder over which of your snippets makes you'd like to link in? So many of our cards do contain snippets in one form or another that I can see why entries have risen so dramatically - plus we have a lot more people playing along.

We'll see how that idea goes - it certainly levels the playing field and gives everyone an equal chance if they hope to win the weekly prize. If you don't like the idea, don't just run away - let me know, and perhaps offer suggestions as to how the load can be eased. I really don't want to go down the road of a DT if I can help it (a friend who is very experienced in running challenges with DTs likened that to 'trying to herd cats') but something has to give in terms of the time it's taking to keep the Playground going - on top of this weekly post of course. And I want to keep this as a weekly challenge for now.............you have no idea how many prizes are lined up , can't get the lid on the toy box right now!

So, a maximum of ONE entry this week and please say in a comment if you wish to play and be a possible winner of the prize. If you only want to play for either the die or the set of sentiment stamps then just say so in a comment - if your number comes up then I'll do a further draw for the remaining part of the prize. But, both items are up as one complete prize if you so wish of course. Please also link back to the Playground in your blog post to be eligible for the draw.

Mr Linky is below - please let me know if you have any problems linking, it's easy for me to sort out so don't struggle on alone :)

Enjoy your week - remember it's Rudolph Day over at ScrappyMo's starting on Thursday to the end of the month. It's a shorter month this time round so best to start planning now :)

Who knows, there's a very good chance my snippets card next Sunday will be a Christmas one for Mo's challenge!

Di and, of course, Parsnip!

  1. I love your oh so blue poppy which looks so nice with the embossed panels either side of it. Feel very honoured that you have entered my challenge as you have not been at all well. Perhaps we should start a sick club. We could meet in the playhouse so long as I get to have the key!! You get to go in the draw twice with your card for the prizes cos you used stamping and the colour sapphire. Hugs Mrs A.

  2. Love the embossing panels, Di. They work so well on this card.
Hope you recover soon. Having knocked my two smallest pinkies BIG TIME last week and hobbling around with toes that haven't felt right since, I've had a small glimpse of what it must be like for you. No fun at all :(
    Rest up, my friend. X

  3. Great job by SARN! Love your card, Di, & hope you're soon up & feeling much better! Just my 2 cents worth, but I really like the one entry only idea--does level the playing field for everyone & there are always plenty of entries for this fun challenge! I'll play for both prizes this week.

  5. What a stunningly gorgeous card, Di! I am so sorry that your back is acting up because of being thrown out of whack with your crutches and walking stick. Oh, ouch! I so know what that feels like! So glad you were able to make this lovely card, though. It truly is a beauty! Just hope your back wasn't aggravated too much by coming to your craft table for little bursts.

I love the idea of you going to only one entry per week. We all want to make this fun for you and any of your lovely helpers, too! And not be a burden. Thank you to SARN for her help this week. Fabulous picks!! And big congrats to Grandma Andrea! The new little bundle is soooooooo precious and your card is just adorable.

Get well and thank you to SARN for helping out this week again!!

  9. Good morning Di. Didn't Sarn do a brilliant job over half term. What a wonderful gesture to help out this week too...she's so kind. So sorry to hear that you are stuggling with that back again...get well soon. So good to see you managed your card...such a pretty one too. I think the single entry is an excellent idea as it should save you an aweful lot of extra work..especially as you do all this weekly. Thanks so much I love playing here in the playground. Please count me in with the prizes and I will pop by with my favourite project of the week. Huge hugs xx

  11. I think you did amazing to make that card Di, so sorry to hear you are in such pain again. Super picks again, all so different, and such good news of the new arrival....everyone loves a bit of good news :)
I think it's a good idea to set a limit of one entry.....makes us think harder and less work for you, and fairer to boot!
Sorry for waffling, a yes please to it all, and I've got a bottle smuggled in my knickers, so I'm going up the treehouse, but shhhh don't tell prefect ! xxx

  12. What a shame that you've had problems with your back this week especially as I think you were planning to get out and about while Sarn was kindly looking after the playground for you - hope it gets better soon. It is good that Sarn is happy to be in charge for another week. I love the blue poppy on your pretty card this week and I was thrilled to read that I was lucky in the draw too. I will be along sometime with a card for this week but will be just playing for fun this time around. Good idea to limit entries to one, especially if it helps with the admin side of things and of course it gives everyone a level playing field (or playground!!) when it comes to the draw. Take care.

  15. A lovely card Di - I will be joining you and Sarn in the playground soon and would love a chance to win.
I think that limiting to one entry a week would be a good idea as it would make your work so much easier and would give all playmates an equal chance of winning your fabulous prize.
I hope you feel better soon.

  16. Oi Oiiiiiiiii! Morning everyone! I know it's Sunday, but I'm feeling NOISY this morning! WHO said "What's NEW there then?". C'mon, own up!

Congrats on getting a snippets card made in short bursts Di. LOVE your blue poppy and butterfly card using that gorgeous EF too! (Must get mine out to play with soon!)

It is my absolute pleasure to help out on Playground duties. This week I nabbed one of those shiny whistles from the staff room, so look out everyone! Might come in handy for the look outs when I'm back in the tree house serving hooch!

Brenda and Viv did a fine job with the Prosecco cocktails last week! Thanks girls!

Sending hugs and hoping you feel better soon Di.
    Love SARN xxx

  21. Well what a week that was with Sarn keeping us all in order... she did a brill job and it's so good of her to carry on this week and hopefully your back will soon be on the mend. Maybe we can fix up a line from the Treehouse to your bedroom window to keep you supplied with a glass or two - purely for medicinal reasons of course.

Thank you so much for showing off my granddaughters photo and to everyone for their good wishes. I'm definitely the proud Granny but I do wish they didn't live the other side of the world 'cos I so much want to give her a big cuddle.

I love your card with that fabulous MB poppy and super embossed background. I keep looking for 7x7 cards but with no joy so I ended up with 5x7s. I'll be back later with a card and 'Yes Please' I'd love to go in the draw this week.

Nearly forgot to say that I think it's a great idea to make it a one entry challenge, especially as there are so many new playmates coming to join in the fun xx

  32. LOVE that EF too Di, it's a shame, because I mainly only make A6 cards, with A5 only for Mum! I think the limit of one entry is a great idea, like you say, it will make us think about it more and it must be very hard work for you (and Sarn of course) I'm only playing for fun, not a prize! Hope you are fully on your feet (literally) soon my friend! Have a great week! Hazel xx

  36. I think we could go with "1 entry only" every week to keep your commenting work to a minimum. You are so lovely to host this wonderful challenge (yes, I do love all my snippets) and very generous to also provide all those fab prizes so I am sure none of us want to bury you with "too much" work with commenting.

Great picks from last week and I really like you simple card. I would gladly be this week's winner because the prize(s) look fan-ta-bu-lous. If still unsure, YES PLEASE from me :)

Have a wonderful kick for this new week!

  40. Ouch! I wish SARN would stop blowing that whistle in my ear!
Thanks for stepping in again SARN, and Di, I hope your run of health problems is coming to an end.
Even when you are fighting fit again, I think one entry a week is a good idea, otherwise you'll never have time to do any crafting yourself. Also I don't know if anybody else feels the same, but if I only do one or two entries a week instead of the full three, I feel a bit guilty as if I'm not supporting you properly, so doing just one would make ME feel better!

  41. Hi Di, sorry to hear your back is painful. Lovely picks and I love your blue poppy card. I know from my own DT stuff how time consuming commenting is and I only do a tiny fraction of the large numbers here. I've only had to do that number a couple of times and it finished me off!! Couldn't imagine doing that on a weekly basis! So yes, a one card entry seems a fab idea, but I totally get where Jane is coming from too! Yes please to super prizes. I love the idea of one card per week per entrant... I have my own reasons for this I won't go into here...but I think it the best way to go!!

I like the idea of one card only. It does even the playing field for the working Moms who barely have time to make one. And the older, more "em" mature cardmakers who may not have the energy either...lol

Totally understand about your back. I find that syndrome is true for me as well. I use those walking poles for mobility and they make my upper shoulders sore. If I switch to a came, the pain switches to my shoulder blade.
The body is a n interesting connected issue...overuse one area and there is hXXll to pay! teehee

  64. Oh dear, Di, so sorry to read this. I was hoping things were improving. I certainly hope you get better soon. Your card is gorgeous! You did great considering what you've been going through. I especially love the gorgeous embossing folder!

Congrats to the winner and picks - I always enjoy seeing the chosen ones! Thank you for this week's awesome prize! I've been under the weather for several days but hoping to play along this week so you can definitely count me in for the prize!

Personally I like the idea of the one entry limit! Maybe you could keep it at one entry every week! Makes it much easier for everyone, especially now that the playground has grown in popularity! It can't be easy running a challenge like this and I know it takes a lot of time, so my vote is for one entry every week! Anything that will make life easier!

    Sending healing hugs your way!

  71. Hi. Sorry I have just posted a second card - I had forgotten we were only doing one now! I don't know how to 'un-post' it but perhaps you can. I don't seem to have commented after my blue butterfly post so please do enter me in the draw. I think my head is on backwards this week!
I do hope the back is improving. You have done well to make a card this week Di, and such a pretty one too. Take care. Kate x

Rest well lovely lady Karen x

  77. I have just entered my card for this week so please may I have an entry into the prize draw. So pleased your back is better Di and I agree it will be far less work for you with just one entry per person per week. Thank you Sarn for trying to keep us naughty children in line again this week. x

  79. Hello Di, so glad you seem to be on the mend again. It sounds as though you have had a trying time of it but I hope that's all come to an end. As I've just about managed one snippet card each week recently, and sometimes not even that, and struggle to comment on everyone's entries I welcome a limit of one entry a week. I'm sure it will make a difference to both you and Sarn who is doing a magnificent job as your stand-in. Take care and be good :) Hugs, Elizabeth xx
PS: Kisses to Sarn too xx

  82. I am so so sorry to hear that you're still battling health problems. You must be so discouraged...but you're still creating beautiful cards! Yes please to this week's prize. I haven't had much time to craft lately, with two sick kids and two family trips, so it was fun to get to my stamps for a change.

  85. h you poor thing! The health hits just keep on coming but I just know you'll be feeling better one of these days...and the sooner the better! I seem to have missed this week's challenge but just wanted to let you know that limiting the projects to one per week is more than fine with me! Sometimes I get carried away and want to share everything...but that's not fair to you and Sarn. After all, your eyes must start crossing after the first 20 viewed!! Hoping we hear that you're dancing and singing along in the next month!
