Beside the sea

I found the basis for this card over on Pinterest, made by a very talented SU card maker called Marsha - here. Needless to say I bodged stamping my sentiment right at the end of making the card - which explains why I had to do some swift trimming and then punching out of the sentiment. So a 6" square card ended up at A6 size :)
 I used:

- A6 (in the end) white card blank

- SU stamps from the 'Work of Art' set for the background. I used SU's inkpads in 'Tangelo Twist', 'Hello Honey' and 'Lost Lagoon' for the sunset and the water. Then I used  VersaFine's 'Vintage Sepia' for the shore. Some of it was second generation stamping to get the right shade, another time I'd even think about going for third generation

- the little wading birds came from my NBUS SU 'Wetlands' set, stamped using Memento 'Tuxedo Black'

- then I tried stamping the sentiment underneath the image and smudged it - sigh :( So, I just cut the image down - which to my eye left too much white space at the top but no way was I going to start all over again!

- then the image was layered onto a backing of 'Tangelo Twist' and 'Lost Lagoon' card stock as a frame

- sentiment is from the same set and also stamped in 'Tuxedo Black' then punched using SU's 'Large Oval' punch before being popped onto the card using a thin sticky pad - it sort of helps to break up the expanse of that white space I s'pose

Although this card uses a Stampin' Up NBUS stamp set, I don't feel it's at all right to enter it into Darnell's current NBUS challenge as it's Marsha's idea - but I did have fun making it - as well as sort of recovering it from the jaws of disaster.

  8. I'm so pleased to hear it's not just me! Your card looks great and no-one would have known if you hadn't said but it's so frustrating isn't it. When I first started I never used to add sentiments as I was too scared it would ruin the card. The birds are really fun.

  9. Well, as you've used NBUS AND you've credited the person that inspired you . . . I think Darnell will have something to say if you DON'T enter it into her challenge!

GOOD save by the way. I think this card is EXCELLENT (said in my best Mr Burns' voice).

  10. The sunny swish at the top of this is brill Di. I love my Wetlands set - and have just used these wading birds to make a batch of sympathy cards - now might try and do another batch with the orange top - for Birthdays!
If I'd had a pound for every time I've had to cover up crappy stamping we could all go and live like millionaires! x

  12. Fabulous recovery Di - beautiful card.
The thing is if you didn't tell anyone about the boob nobody would ever know!
I'm getting better at disguising my mistakes now too,

  14. This is a great card Di and I'm sure we've all had to cover up a smudged or uneven stamped sentiment, I know I have, and I also think that as you have credited the original person, and actually you did use some different colour inks and card, and also Darnell's challenge winners are randomly chosen, I think that you should enter the card too, as lots of people would love to see it as it is very pretty and beautifully crafted. x

  17. I love this, the colours are superb and the image goes so well, not one I would be at ease with but on this occasion love it. How annoying when the last thing you do spoils the previous hard work and lucky you were able to fix it, one reason why I hate stamping sentiments and more often than not do computer generated ones.
Had a really problem this morning linking up, no idea why but managed it after ages.

  18. Oh forgot to say, get it entered into NUBS, who cares, there must be numerous cased cards out there that folks don't even admit to, and who is going to argue with the Mistress of the Playground, well apart from Sarn.
