At the WOYWW crop on Saturday, Sam gave me the most fabulous 'handcrafted with her own fair hands' notebook - leather bound and so beautifully handstitched:
I absolutely LOVE it but there's a thing about me and new blank books, probably going back to childhood. Am always scared to actually use them!
But, when chatting to my buddy Sarn via the wonders of the airwaves on Monday, she suggested I could use it as a mini journal. Brilliant idea - the book is just less than A6 in size and much less daunting than the A4 sized journal I already have here.
Yesterday I had a little play, just the facing page - using colours to pick up the lovely floral lining of the book and a quotation that I think sums up how this little mini-journaling adventure should be undertaken:
I used:
- the mini journal of course
- Tim Holtz 'Scattered Straw' DI ink pad and a sponge applicator (tip, I slotted a piece of white paper underneath the page to stop any stray ink being spread onto the edges of other pages)
- Brilliance 'Pearlescent Ivy' ink pad and a stamp from the Inkylicious 'Bullrush' set
- Brilliance 'Rocket Red' ink pad and one of LOTV's 'Quotables' stamps from the 'Life's Journey' set
- Memento 'Tuxedo Black' ink pad and the little bird stamps which are also from the Inkylicious 'Bullrush' set
God bless this ship and all who sail in her - watch this space :)

I wrote a fairly long comment, hit send and off it went to God knows where. So for a shorter version. Gorgeous journal, your first entry is so lovely. I know what you mean by that first mark in the journal ....most frightening! Have a crafty week!
ReplyDeleteWhat a wonderful gift Di and what a wonderful first page you have created xx

That notebook is such a thing of beauty!! I think I would be frozen, too, Di, just fondling it and gazing at it! But that's not what it's meant for, just as your perfect quotation says! Making it a mini-journal is perfect and your start is excellent!! Hugs, Darnell
ReplyDeleteA great start to a lovingly crafted journal. Now the first page is done there'll be no stopping you! Kate x
ReplyDeleteA beautiful mini book - what a lovely present. It always seems such a shame to spoil the pristineness (if that's a word) by writing in them, but your art journalling looks just perfect in it. Look forward to seeing all the other pages in due course. Hugs Sue x
ReplyDeleteHi Di, what a lovely gift - it's beautiful. I, too, have difficulty using new notebooks - it's those clean and pristine pages, such a shame to spoil them. I have a watercolour notebook on my shelf - it's now several years old. I intended making an art journal of it but it's still untouched. Perhaps I should take that super quote to heart and start now ... after I've cleared up the mess and caught up again of course :) Look forward to seeing more pages as you progress. Hugs, Elizabeth xx

Wow oh wow! A lot of love and work went into creating that little beauty - lucky you Miss Pixie!
ReplyDeleteI have an A4 notepad I purchased a year ago to start playing with art journal. I bought an A4 one and it is still blank lol! Will have to hunt for a smaller one.
Love your first page - the sentiment, stamping and colour is all fabulous! Enjoy!
What a beautiful start you have made to your lickle book. I am so happy that you have used it rather than it just sit in a drawer.

ReplyDeleteOh Di what a fabulous gift and what a stunning first page you have done there ... I just love it! I was greatly inspired at the crop on Saturday by Helen's wonderful journal but still felt a bit too intimidated to start but seeing your little mini-journal has given me the push I need and I might actually follow your example and get a small one to start with. It was super, fandabidoziee, wonderful to meet you ... you have been such a good cyberfriend to me but now I can say you are my real life friend too! Love to you from Debbie xxx

Oh wow Di what a wonderful gift and beautifully presented with such gorgeous papers xx
ReplyDeleteIf you ever have an urge to write, you have a beautiful journal to write in! Love the quote!
ReplyDeleteA marvelous gift & I hear you on the hesitation to write in it. I'd fear that I had nothing worthy of such an awesome book. What you chose to put on your first ever page is very inspirational and appropriate for a first entry (also a good thing to keep in mind on our life's journey as well). Loved the page, loved the sentiment, and looking forward to seeing more pages. (especially since I don't journal!) WTG. You rock. TFS & Hugs
