WOYWW 194 - more OCD stuff

Yay, sunshine here yesterday - and this was my desk just before I ran away and left it, and I'd even taken the coffee mug back into the kitchen:
Back to organising stamps - a job I can only do so much of in one go before the urge to scream gets a grip.

My system is 'simples', I know, a bit like me really. No fancy spreadsheets or regimented and categorised boxes of stamps here. It all hinges around a little index box of cards - I described just how it works a whole year ago on WOYWW, here, and am still nibbling away. The good news is that the (third) postcard album below is the last of the unmounted rubber stamps, they just happen to be Christmas ones but with the system I use it doesn't matter.
The wooden ones are already done, with stamps stored in 'best fit' Really Useful Boxes - no more than two layers per A4 sized box. Just all the clear ones to tackle, and then the little index box of stamped images can be sorted into categories.

We each have our own way of doing things I know - this system works for me, and I ain't changing horses mid-stream :)

Now, off you go - over to Julia's to see what others have been up to. I bet a lot of folk are delirious about the couple of sunny days we've had here in the UK. It's been lovely.

Happy WOYWW!

Di

  2. Di! You have the patience of a saint! I couldn't do it, I really couldn't. I have a system in place for my stamps... one box for Christmas, two boxes for everything else. I really don't know what stamps I have - I rarely use them, and when I do it's always the same one or two! Still, cataloging my collection would take a couple of days - you must have a mahoosive collection to take a year! Bet it's fun though... flicking through those index cards :)

    Have a wonderful WOYWW Di!!!
    Hugs,
    Sheleen.

  4. Great idea! I love those PB mice with the lamplight! A friend loaned me her stamp and I managed to stamp a couple for me and for Little Miss C. Might show up at Sarns Rudolph Day one of these days (if I ever get it finished!
I stamp off my stamps too but didn't enter challenges when I created my system...silly me...no tracking of who made them and no stamp name...Drat...bit of a mess now to change over now.
i usually try to find them on ebay or google to list the names...then write it down when I find them..
Thanks for the ti about the post card album pages!

  8. Any time you want to give your OCD free reign I will be glad to adopt you. I do use spreadsheets for my dies, my cute stamps and my PBs, more so that I don't buy the same one again. xx Flora

  9. I'm with Bubbles, and think you have the patience of a saint, really I do.

I just play "hunt the stamp" - although my wooden ones are all on shelves in some semblence of order that makes me happy!

Er, have I come to the right desk? There's no cold cup of coffee in place?

    Hugs

  12. There really are too many of you being tidy and filing stamps!! It interferes with stamping time!
Really, I do have a kinda system, but want desperately another drawer set so it could improve! But I don't have that kinda money to spare on drawers!
    Ho Hum!
Do I spy a SD stamp set the same as mine? LOL!

  14. You sure are getting there! Mine are just stored in folders but I do feel you way of keeping reference would work for me, I just haven't got to it yet! The sun was lovely but short lived and now a cold snap is coming back apparently! Not yet time to think of sitting out in the garden, ah well, soon enough it will be. Take care & enjoy this week whatever it brings. Zo xx 59

  17. Just pass me a soupcon of your patience, please ... I've hardly got of the ground with my pathetic efforts to do something like this! However, it does look like the end result will be well worth the effort. Don't you just wish you'd done it right from the first itty bitty stamp purchase :) Weather improving to better up here too - tempting us out of doors and away from the craft desk. Happy WOYWW. 18. Hello Di,

I thought I was number one for just a second! I linked up using my smart phone and guess I didn't "reload" the page fast enough!

Oh, I keep telling myself that WHEN I have a designated crafting space I'll be more organized. I really like your system and could see how it would work for me. Hmmm, maybe by the time I get in to a new place you and Len will be ready for another NM fix......

Although I agree with LLJ comment I think I'm going to change the bird.

    Thanks for visiting.

    Hugs,
    Kay

  19. Hi Di, now that desk needs some serious messiness added lol!

I have that PB meeces singing around the lamp stamp, they are so lovely for Christmas - my faves are a cute little hedgehog snoozing in front of a stocking, and a mouse asleep on a chrismas gift :-)

    Happy WOYWW

  22. This is too funny, Di, that once again we are on the same page - no pun intended - and posted about the same thing!! Your system would work for me, too. I'm all for any "system."

Looks like you have a fair number of stamps your own self, but within decency. As for mine, well, now you see first hand why I'm trying so hard not to buy anything new this year! I think it will take me at least all of this year just to ink up all the neglected ones I have.

It's an enormous chore doing the sorting, but I forgot to put on my post how much fun I'm having doing it, because I'm "finding" these cute little bits and pieces that I didn't even remember I had or notice when I received them!

Well, enough waffles from me. I need to get back on the WOYWW tour and then get back to sorting ... 'til later. XXoo, Darnell #48

  23. I love seeing how you organise, Di even though you are putting me to shame. I have been better filing all my stamps though. See, some of your OCD is rubbing off!
Hope you manage a bit of crafting as well as tidying.

  24. Changing horses mid steam?? Lol! I've got this image of you leaping, like some daredevil bareback circus rider jumping in a spangly arc from one white galloper to another. Maybe this was a former career of yours?
And the haircut is choppy and funky but I haven't had a proper pic taken so I,shall just go on teasing ;)

  25. You are so well sorted out Di. I nearly emailed you today! I bought a heart shaped Framelits thingy by Sizzix and wanted to use it to cut hearts for my quilt on my Cuttlebug. Managed it in the end. Don't think it was intended for this purpose but it worked!! x Jo

  27. I may have to give this a try! My stamps are just here and there and I have to hunt for the special ones! I definitely need some organization!

  28. I now feel like a bit of a slob, all my clear stamps are just thrown in a draw, I can't even be sure what I have or which have and which have not been used.
Craftroom needs painting so maybe I will make a start to do something about it when it is all nice and clean again but won't be half as good as yours.

  29. Each having their own system of storig and catagorizing stamps is what keeps WOYWWers snooping. LOL I only do a change if I really need a better way, and find it, and it doesn't mean I have to re-morgage the house! I do like you system, even though it is not for me (tried it many years ago).

  30. We each have the system that suits us best. I do a lot with the computer anyway so putting them on a computer system works best for me. All we need is to make sure we can find any stamp fast and not lose them in the depths of the pile of boxes. I have taken mine out of files because the files were collapsing. Have a good week. xx Maggie #42
