Amazing what some British sun will do

We have a clematis blooming in the garden right now. I think I must have been pruning it back at the wrong time in previous years and it's been too wet to attack it yet - this is the result of neglect:
It's scrambling at least eighteen foot along a fence, beautiful too.
And this is a close-up - of course it's pink, grin :) What else would you expect?

  2. It's the clematis Montana. It's an early flowering fast growing variety. Normally you just prune it to keep it in check. Cut it back harder after flowering if need be. Sorry know it's a craft Blog but being a gardener I can't help it. ;-)

  3. Hello Di, yep, like Mark says, it's a clematis Montana - possibly clematis Montana rubra because the flowers are pink. It may even be the variety 'Elizabeth' - wish I could say that it's named for me but suspect it's more likely to be after the present Queen Elizabeth or her mother. Whatever, it's gorgeous whilst mine hasn't done much at all this year so far, and neither has my neighbour's which is older and bigger :( I'm hoping for a late flowering. It looks like you should take Mark's advice and leave the pruning till after flowering :) Hugs, Elizabeth x

  5. I have that Clematis too Di! It absolutely smothers our garden wall beside a gorgeous lilac wisteria - it's my favourite time of year when they're in bloom :-) xxx

  10. Well I wish you'd send some sun up here as my tomatoes seeds have not come through at all yet and been sown a week now, looks like I will have to buy this year.
    Fabulous along the fence.
