Sunday is a day of mixed feelings.

Each year I sort of dread Mother's Day - my Mum died when I was 22 so it's been a long time, but of course I still miss her. However, socks have to be pulled up a bit as I do have a step-mum to make a card for, even though I'm not sure if she fully realises what's going on. Advancing dementia and living in care now means that some days are good and some not so good as far as her awareness is concerned.

She loves the colour blue so for a change I've gone for blues rather than the soft pinks she also likes:
I used:

- a LOTV Cute Square, which comes already coloured so it's most certainly not my own colouring. I love those little girls sharing a cuppa! Die cut into a circle using a Nestie

- dark blue card from snippets folder for the scalloped circle and the scalloped edging strip. I found a Fiskars edge punch that I've had for donkeys years in amongst the punches here - it's going to be used a lot more from now on

- papers from a Papermania Capsule Collection, loads of lovely papers in this pad - and quite a few are great for 'chap's' cards

- white flowers with the diamantes already on - bought ages ago from Hobbycraft

- a row of diamantes down the scalloped strip

- sentiment from a Craftwork Cards goodie bag

I hesitated about posting this card on here as I know that one friend especially really goes through a lot of pain at this time of year. So, this card is also a little tribute to those of you who are also missing your Mums right now, I do think that they're still watching over us.

  3. Oh Di it's just beautiful! Of course I love the color but that image is simply adorable. I believe our mothers watch over us as well. Mother's Day isn't until May 13th in the US but my mother has been on my mind more then usual this week. I am comforted by my memories of her, I hope you are by yours as well.
    Hugs

  5. This is my first time visiting you Di as it's only my second week into WOYWW!
The card is beautiful and I'm sure your step mum will enjoy the card even if she doesn't follow it's sentiment.
I lost my Mum two years ago...and it's still painful, but I know I'm not alone in that pain. How lovely a thought that they all our Mum's are watching over us :D

  7. That card is just lovely Di and your step-mom will get great joy from getting it even though she no longer understands such things ... what a wonderful step-daughter you are.
Six years this September since I lost my mom and my life just fell apart - am still battling to get it back on track so thank goodness for my silly little bit of crafting!
Love and hugs to everyone this Mother's Day. xXx

  8. What a wonderful post. Great card, my friend. I am not looking forward to Sunday, as I'm the only Mum left in our family now. I lost my Mum to cancer 12 years ago and Steve's Mum to dementia last month. on the other hand, I receive mother's day messages from 3 people when I have only one child. Perhaps I should focus on that instead. Big Hugs, Sally x

  9. Thank you so much, Di, for giving me the chance to have a little weep to myself today. I lost my Mum a few years ago, suffering from the result of a twice broken hip, and dementia as well, which meant that my Mum had gone from us several months before she died. Her final few months were doubly hard for me as she did not seem to know me or acknowledge my presence, although she knew and responded to others. Although I knew it was the cruel nature of the dementia, it still hurts now. Anyway, my little weep now will enable me to greet my lovely family with joy tomorrow. Your card is lovely and I am sure your stepmum will enjoy its beauty despite her dementia. xx lots of hugs, Maggie

  10. I guess we all have mixed emotions on Mother's day Di. If we miss our Mum's then they did a good job and like you I miss mine terribly but we must focus on the happy memories they left with us.
    Gorgeous card :-)
    Hugs,

  11. Dl, what a beautiful card. I'm sure your step-Mum will love it, even with her dementia problems. Sadly life has it's ups and downs and we have to cope as best as we can. I miss my Nan SOOOOO much on Mothers Day as she used to have her own little card and pressie from us too. She appreciated everything you did for her and was a 'typical' Nan, all cuddly and lovely! A little weep, and off we go again. Thanks for sharing your memories and hearts with us all. Karen x

  12. Hello Di, I do miss my mother - she died suddenly of a massive heart attack 7 years ago. Her death has left a constant ache inside but I also have wonderful memories of Mothering Sundays spent with her too. Now, each year I take a trip over to her memorial garden with a pot of spring plants and just have a wee word with her ... that probably sounds daft but it works for me. After that we go off to visit family and I still consider it to be one of the nicest days of the year. Thanks for sharing your story and the lovely card you've made for your step-mother. Elizabeth x

  14. A beautiful card for your step Mum, I'm sure she'll love it.

I lost my Mum very suddenly three years ago to a very aggressive cancer, she was diagnosed and gone inside 8 weeks. I have to stop myself so often from phoning her to tell her something. We also lost my husbands mum last year, so this will his first Mother's day without her.

I've always believed those we love watch over us and I really hope it's true. I look forward to one day being reunited with my parents, I miss them both so much. Oops, there I go tearing up! Can't see properly to type now so I'm off.

    Much love

  17. Fabulous card, love these images and isn't it great when you don't have to worry about the colouring.

I was 31, thought I'd never get over it. She died in the September and the following Mother's Day I had to get a card for Chris's Mum and every Mother's Day card I picked, the verses would have just done for my Mum, I just stood in the shop and cried. Went home and told Chris he'd better go and buy one.
