Red and turquoise - together?

Those of you who come to the snippets playground will know what a prolific card maker Hazel is - and you may also know that she runs a weekly Christmas Card challenge called Crafty Hazelnut's Christmas Challenge. This is my second entry this week (the theme is 'seeing red' - brilliant for Christmas cards of course). The makings were lying on my desk on WOYWW yesterday, although I would never have thought of using red and turquoise together, and this is the end result:
Enough red d'you think?

I used:

- the usual, and favourite at the moment, 6" x 6" square white card stock

- part of a 2011 Christmas card

- a single 6" square piece of Core'dinations turquoise card - with the centre 'gutted' as I now know from Lisa, and it's perfectly acceptable-  so that I got both the main backing and some for the image itself. I showed this on WOYWW yesterday, and thanks to Carol for giving me the idea originally

- paper from a freebie papers pack with Cardmaking and Papercraft magazine - called Berry Merry by Jennifer Ellory (some great papers too!)

- red ribbon from stash

Job done - and of course I'm entering it into Hazels challenge here :) What with that, plus Rudolph Day over at Sarn's each month, I just might make a few cards well in time for Christmas this year.

    I think the two colours go so well together - certainly lots of lovely red for another entry for my CHNC challenge 62. And it certainly makes sense to gut the centre of that piece of card - I often just forget to bother, but it does make sense and adds to the visits to the playground! x

    As I said on WW.. I think this is a brilliant colour combination. I think I have left it a bit late to enter Hazel's challenge this week though I thought I might when I first saw the theme. I did it every week last year so this year I have stepped back a bit and am just doing the occasional one, but it was good to have so many Christmas cards made in advance last year so I must try to keep up!
    I think this is a very pretty card, and you've made use of a piece from an old card. I have a box full of those too!

    Haven't really seen those colours used together before, they look wonderful though! Such a great idea using toppers from ex-crimbo cards, I have a big pile somewhere!

    Oh yes, red and turquoise, or red and aqua, is definitely one of my favourite colour combinations for striking cards. Look at you, getting ahead!!

    Two beautiful colours you have used Di and they do look good together! that backing paper is stunning well matched with the ribbon and card used for the image and Sentiment truly beautiful:)

    Great mix of colours, not used them but will do.

    Well Di, I would love you to carry my bags but unfortunately, the minute we put them on the coach is the last we see of them till they arrive in our cabin. BUT if you are a hairdresser in diguise then you are definately taking the place of Chris.

    Oooh I think I've got that paper too and I think you've done a great job on the card.

    I never remember to gut my card when matting and layering ... Thanks for reminding me! It does make the stash go further!

    And of course reusing the previously received Xmas cards is always fun ... I did most of mine in a big session just after the new year so I had got them out of the way but still have a big stack of toppers ready for more cards.
