Well, what a lovely reaction yesterday on WOYWW to those 'shparkled brads' - thank you for the positive comments, and mind those fingers when the brads are hot :) Glossy accents won't work, I did try it a while back and it's messy, doesn't like slippy surfaces, is too 'gloopy' and just soaks up the fine glitter. It is great though for chunkier glitter such as Twinklets Diamond Dust where it doesn't matter if you end up with a thick, uneven layer of sparkle, such as on the poinsettias I've been making - it likes paper and card :)
Anyhow, rootling through my Christmas stash I found this little card, buried and made a looooong time ago - I think it shows in the lack of patterned papers, layers and stamping :) But, I think the idea is still worth showing and I might even make some more as I also found a load of windows already made up - so much stash and right now so many ideas - and not enough hours in the day!
I made it so long ago that I can't remember where I sourced a lot of the stuff but these are the basics:
The card is an A6 red hammered card from Craft Creations - way back in the days when they really only sold paper, card and peel offs. I still use them for cards and envelopes - and a few extras always seem to fall into my basket along the way :) The little black cats are ready cut dies, bought from Dies to Die For way back in the days when Kirsty Wiseman owned the business. Not sure who made the window peel offs but I suspect I bought them from Craft Creations as well. The peel offs were stuck onto acetate and then the outline was cut round and the windows cut so that they open. Then it was backed with a layer of sparkly dark blue paper with some 'snowy' mesh on top. I ran a black Whispers pen along the window sill and then added the cats so they were sort of sitting looking out. Ha, the star is a silver sequin (the age of all this stuff is really showing) and the sentiment was from Lakeland, back in the days when they stocked craft supplies. I used to think their stuff was great and they came up with some good ideas given that crafty things were not so prolific (yay, today's big word) and there certainly wasn't the choice elsewhere that there is now. I added the little gems just now :)
It's cold here today, the boiler has just been serviced (at 8am!) ready for the Winter and I can smell freshly made coffee wafting from the kitchen. Tomorrow is Friday Feast and I think it's going to be something warming for the day's recipe. Tonight here it's sausage, onion gravy, mashed potato and greens - real comfort food - and not one I'll be posting a recipe for. We can all make bangers and mash :)
I need to hop round some blogs - lagging behind on WOYWW visits this week I'm afraid. I'll be with you ASAP though:)) And thanks again for all your lovely, supportive comments.

Di you shouldn't worry about being behind on visits - some weeks I get to less than half of the numbers, it's just one of those things..we women have to be flexible! Love the cats in the window - probably because you've dug out something you made ages ago and it's nice. My first stuff was rubbish!
ReplyDeleteI like that card and its style seems to fit a traditional Christmas. Like Julia, I still have loads to visit and probably will not make anywhere near half. I try a different order of viewing each week, after I have been to see all the regulars on my list and all those who visit me.
ReplyDeleteThank you for your message on my blog. I can't get into Xmas vibe but I do like this cat card!
ReplyDeleteHee hee . . . a retro card judging by how old you say most of its elements are!
ReplyDeleteSomething different . . . which is GOOD!
Hugs, Sarn x
Great card, love those cats. Most of my earlier efforts are too embarrassing to show! Lisa x
ReplyDeleteWow no matter how old it is it's fantastic. Love the open window and the cats are adorable. Can't help but think they'd be scratching at that screen to get to those lovely snowflakes.

Di... That is one cute card! I love how the little kitty tails are hanging from the window :)
ReplyDeleteI love WOYWW - Julia is such a brilliant host... but I have to admit that I'm not one for spending all day blog-hopping. I pick at least 5 names from the list... often more if I know I have time... and leave comments on those blogs. I try to pick different names each time - but it's taking a little longer each week, as I often find such brilliant websites I just have to become a follower... and I do try to get round to all the posts left by the bloggers that I follow too - every day!
So, no guilt... just have fun doing what you can :)
dont want to think about christmas
ReplyDeleteThanks for the birthdy wishes - I had a great day and lovely evening out with Annie & co. I don't feel a day over 40!!! x Jo
ReplyDeleteThose were they days - not - it was a nightmare really but to say this card is so old it is a very good one, thank goodness I don't have any left because I would be so ashaimed of them.
